The main purpose of the "comment" function in LaTeX is making it psychologically easier to delete things that should be deleted.

Data econ comedy? EFA folks offered to record me talking to comedians about research. Why not? So here's me, Dhaya Lakshminarayanan and Sammy Obeid talking/joking about the data economy. Fun? Cringey? An interesting experience to be sure. #EconTwitter #DataEconomy www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFgQ...

Just saw a talk where a speaker referenced about 20 authors. I knew all but 2, and all those are male. Even if only 20% of econ authors were women, the odds of all the relevant papers being written exclusively by men are ... Is this a problem? If so, any productive remedy? #Econsky

New data from Treasury & the Nat'l Assn of Insurance Commissioners is yet more evidence that our current home insurance system is failing households across the country. We urgently need a better system that prioritizes housing resilience & affordability. #SharedFates www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Sad this is needed. Americans benefit enormously from US debt being a safe asset. We effectively get to mint insurance that foreigners hold because it naturally appreciates in crises, at no cost to us. Why would we threaten this goose that lays us golden eggs to play political games?

Thanks Joe! Glad this part resonated

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

Love to see my amazing colleagues @aldasky.bsky.social & @triofrancos.bsky.social talk class politics in the NYT. Climate change is a class issue & green populism is a real response to Trumpism. Dems should listen. This applies to Canada too. NDP should take note. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/07/o...

Relevant to the debate on fact-checking amidst Meta's decision, Adam Szeidl and Ferenc Szucs tell a clear and terrifying story about the power of misinformation and propaganda, and its effects on democratic accountability. drive.google.com/file/d/1M2Nx...

Fascinating paper by Claudia Goldin on drivers of low fertility in advanced economies. Countries where economic progress outstrips social progress (in particular, gender equality in household division of labour) see the most rapid falls in fertility.. www.nber.org/papers/w33311

Hearing Sandy Black's students and mentees talk about all that she has done for them at the CSWEP awards -- it reminded me that's what this profession was meant to be. Feeling inspired and uplifted. #ASSA2025 #Econsky #CSWEP

In accepting her Bennett prize yesterday, Maryam did a brave thing: talk about the mental health challenges that faculty face. She's both an accomplished scholar and amazing person. #Econsky

Between stubbornly persistent inflation + GOP tax cuts (likely expansionary in near term) + tariffs raising price level for imported goods + deportations disrupting supply chains, Fed may be headed for a crash course with Trump. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

If you want to understand why healthcare pricing is horrific, the first thing to know is that our system puts 100% of the credit risk for deductibles, copays and co-insurance on hospitals and doctors. That's insane. We have turned them into Sub Prime Lenders 🧵

Congratulations to Chris, Virgiliu and Daniel! A great prize for important work.

A phenomenon I am noticing in the forecasting community, potentially b/c many forecasters work for large organizations that don't want to run afoul of the new administration, most 2025 outlooks are simply assuming Trump won't enact any of his major policy planks & projecting status quo 🤔

The results from BloombergNEF's 2024 lithium-ion battery price survey are out. Lithium-ion battery pack prices dropped 20% from 2023 to a record low of $115 per kilowatt-hour. This is the largest decline observed in our survey since 2017. 🧵⬇️

Strong evidence on the value of strong women. Female combat vets are national treasures, who defied attitudes expectations and odds. At least the statistics give them some credit.
