"What would happen if we stopped measles and Hib vaccinations in industrialised countries? For example, in the USA there would be an estimated 3–4 million cases of measles with 450 deaths, and 20 000 Hib infections with 600 deaths" Will anyone find this acceptable? www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

We’re hearing from multiple sources that center directors at CDC and/or NIH may be let go tomorrow. We are hoping this is just a rumor- passionate, dedicated leadership is needed during this time. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Hopefully all recommended vaccines continue to be available in U.S. I cannot stress enough the importance of finding a pediatrician or primary care doc who believes in science & who you trust with your health to provide guidance on vaccines for you & your children. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

Dark skies reflect my sadness at the firings of all the humans that help keep the #GreatLakes as healthy as possible. Tonight I mourn the loss of the 14 @usfws.bsky.social employees that kept the invasive sea lamprey at bay. My fishery will be hurt. 😢😢🌊🌊

I have been so excited since I found out this would be announced today! RIP any ability for me to concentrate: www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2...

RFK Jr is working to undermine all government support for vaccines. He wants power and America’s children (and immunocompromised) will pay the price.

The CDC has an ultra-competitive 2-year program to train "the best of the best" to lead public health labs. Most of the current class were terminated over the weekend. www.science.org/content/arti... (by @meredithwadman.bsky.social)

Chris Murphy: "My prediction is that if you vote for Kash Patel, more than any other confirmation vote you make, you will come to regret this one to your grave."

President Zelenskyy has been one of the greatest leaders of our time, guiding Ukraine through the darkest period of its recent history, rising up to Russia’s unwarranted aggression, being an inspiration to the Ukrainian people and ensuring that Ukraine’s voice is heard on the world stage.

HHS has ordered CDC to stop its influenza vaccine “Wild to Mild” media campaign. This is an award-winning campaign that effectively explains how influenza vaccine may not prevent infection but does decrease illness severity. We are currently having one of the worst influenza seasons in 15 years.

This morning, the US National Science Foundation fired 168 employees, approximately 10% of its workforce, for no cause other than they were the agency's most recent hires. 🧪 Co-workers are leaving supportive messages before they have to clear out of the building at 5 p.m. Sent to me by a source ⬇️

Iowa's House File 274, which would criminalize librarians, passes out of the House Education Committee. It can now be heard on the floor. What this bill is, what it would mean for library and school workers, and why it was rushed through. bookriot.com/iowa-rushes-...

Oh, wow. Also, we know Covid causes ACE/ACE2 balance disruption and (tech term coming) fucks up a whole lot of function. This goes a long way in explaining why the placenta gets so messed up in Covid pregnancies.

"The strategy they're using against immigrant communities, against veterans, Black folk, people of color, women, through the DEIA attacks ... is to create fear so that folks change their behavior, the way they exist in the world," Campbell told WBUR.

He’s not making up: news.bloomberglaw.com/banking-law/... Is this really what y’all voted for? 🫤 💰

President Trump is firing American workers who monitor bird flu outbreaks, safeguard nuclear facilities, and now those who promote American history in Dorchester – all to help pay for tax breaks for billionaires and giant corporations.

This is terrible

Abruptly firing people who work in air traffic control is like murdering your own soldiers in the middle of a war. Even if you think things now aren’t working as efficiently as they should there’s no clear path to recovering from this; it’s just a really extremely foolish and dangerous thing to do.

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out. They gut the FAA. Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted. Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

We live in painful and stupid times

Old friend just laid off by USDA, 1 mos short of his probationary period as senior researcher. Brilliant person who left a tenured faculty position several yrs ago to join USDA. Bright early-career researchers also being laid off. USDA is terminating a generation of highly-qualified scientists.

Because this needs to be amplified

“The ongoing measles outbreak in West Texas has doubled in size to 48 cases, mostly in children and teens, making it the state’s worst in nearly 30 years.” apnews.com/article/meas...

Me in 1999: “That South Park movie was wacky, imagining an American imperialism so deranged that they decide to invade Canada in a crusade of censorship. 😂” Me in 2025: 😐

We don't yet know the extent of the damage done to our workforce. We continue to receive reports of past, ongoing, and future terminations. Public servants being let go chaotically with little warning. Those who remain face overwhelming workloads and wonder what acts they will be ordered to commit.

Gutting the CDC right as we’re on the cusp of major outbreaks of transmissible diseases is a very bad idea.

This specifically feels like a great/dark illustration of the information/media diet problem now, if you carefully and factually explain what’s happening — the Trump administration is making drastic cuts to cancer care and research that will harm people — many of them simply won’t believe you.

I saw the Kanye ad yesterday (it aired in the Philly market, where we were) but didn't click on the link. Today I found out it went to a website selling swastika T-shirts. This was a Superbowl ad. And it was to a website selling swastika T-shirts. I feel like I'm losing my mind.
