It doesn’t take a body-language expert to recognize bullying. Trump was literally invading Zelensky’s space.

Vetting? What vetting? Of course there wasn’t any done, but too many people assume.

Making local comedy happen! Anyone who doesn't want to watch the first half of the Super Bowl next Sunday, come out to Boulder for a show @lisafybush.bsky.social and I are putting on.

23 Corollary: If you don’t want to watch the Super Bowl, come to Boulder Coffee next Sunday at 6pm for our comedy show! (We’ll have a suggested donation but no admission fee)

23. Find the comedy open mics in your city and go to them when you can. If someone tells you about a free comedy show (especially if the comedy club you were trying to get into is sold out), go! Not everyone will make you laugh but you’ll find a lot of fresh and funny talent there.

22b. When they get older (which is when they taper off), they won’t want to keep everything they made. Recycle it without argument, but take a picture of the volume of work and put away some you particularly like. You’ll want to keep the memories even if they don’t.

22a. Give them the space to store their work, even if they’re prolific. They will taper off eventually.

22. Fuel your kids’ creativity, but take their leads for how that looks. In my daughter’s case it meant always having pen and paper to write or draw. For my son, it meant letting him go through recycling to find ways to build models.

21. Use pillow protectors. They’re the (usually white) zippered cases that go over the pillow and under the pillowcase. They’re hygienic and will make your pillows last much longer (don’t forget to take them off at least once a year and wash them).

20. When they’re old enough to appreciate it, take your children on nights out. I’ve had fun nights for years going to plays and concerts with each of my kids. Now that my daughter is 21, we can actually go to bars and clubs, which is great.

19. Schedule date nights even if you’re an old married couple. They don’t have to be weekly, just more than once or twice a year. It’s important to have fun time out with just your partner.

18. Whatever city you visit and wherever you live, walk around and pay attention to the public art installations. You’ll probably find background info online, and you may find organized tours, which are worth it. Just about every city has great public art, and it’s free!

17. Visit Wales. It’s gorgeous, historic, and the people are super friendly. Even though it’s a long haul, make the trek to Portmeirion. Required if you’re a fan of The Prisoner, but a great escape (ha!) even if you’re not. I’ve only been to Wales once but I NEED to go back. Portmeirion too!

16. If you’re inclined to send cards for different holidays, buy them the day after the holiday and put them away for the following year. They’re much cheaper and you’ll still have a good selection. This also works for decorations and costumes. And it’s a good time to buy candy to enjoy on your own.

15a. (Probably should be 15 prime) Not all needlecrafters are into country kitsch, and we’re definitely not all Christian. There are not enough diverse kits out there, especially for funky Jewish women. If anyone knows where I can find good Judaica designs, please let me know!

15. We need to show more appreciation for textile artists (I’m including needlework here). They do beautiful detailed work. We also need to create our own textile and needlecraft art on a regular basis, just for ourselves and anyone else who appreciates it. It’s fun and relaxing.

14. Watch movie credits. All of them. First, why not take a moment to digest what you saw? Second, show the crew some love. Third, you’ll learn about the music and locations. Fourth, you never know if there will be a post-credits scene.

13a. Paul McCartney is also one of the best concert experiences you can have, despite the expense. His voice is not at all what it was but he puts on a great show. He also has some excellent musicians touring with him.

13. Two must-see concert tours while they’re still around : Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band and Ringo’s All-Starrs. The lineup for the first doesn’t change but expands; for the second it varies but it’s always good. Expensive but worth it. You’ll see some of the best living rock musicians!

12. If you’re driving from Monterey to San Francisco (or San Francisco to Monterey), get off 101 and spend an afternoon in Capitola. It’s a beautiful little oceanside town with colorful buildings and delicious food (at least one great Mexican restaurant). A definite hidden gem!

11. You’ll hear a lot of really great bands at smaller venues (like the Town Ballroom in Buffalo). They don’t have seating so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Dress in layers because it gets hot. And wear earplugs! Don’t be stupid the way we were 40 years ago.

10. Get the apps for your favorite restaurants because they have deals you won’t see elsewhere. That’s why I can enjoy an Impossible Whopper for $3 on Wednesdays (they’re usually more than double that).

9. Cherish dogs. They are the epitome of pure love. But don’t pet them without asking their owners permission, and put your hand under their heads so they can smell you (and over their heads might scare them).
Money CAN buy love if you adopt a pet!

8. When you eat at those original diners, reliable standbys are hot dogs or hamburgers if you eat meat, grilled cheese or breakfast if you don’t (especially omelettes). Don’t skip dessert. They usually have excellent pie, often homemade. And again, coffee!

7. Just because a restaurant or eatery calls itself a diner doesn’t mean it is one. A diner is a prefabricated structure with counter service that has been hauled to its site. There are a lot of original diners remaining, especially in the Northeast. Seek them out. They’re worth it (remember coffee)

6. Starbucks sucks. The best coffee (regular or artisanal) in Rochester is at Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters and Ugly Duck Coffee. Equal Grounds is also good.
Anywhere in the US, the best coffee will always be from local baristas, although you’ll find good basic coffee at local diners and eateries.
