If a law firm won't risk everything to defend itself, what makes you think it will risk anything to defend you? My advice: Find a law firm that will not back down and will never bend a knee.

This is Chuck. Chuck is selling a book. Chuck also has a full-time job. I would consider buying Chuck’s book if he were doing that job, but he’s not. Don’t be like Chuck. And don’t buy Chuck’s book.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

Setting aside the incredibly dangerous and fascist aspect of this, is there actual evidence that Khalil was a “Hamas supporter”? Or is the standard for a green-card holder being sent to a secret location and possibly deported just “critical of Israel”?

As a SFF writer who is very interested in religion, in fiction and in real life: Any attempt to lay out rules or laws or even guidelines for "how to depict religion in fiction" has not thought the matter through, IMO. I took a basic drawing class and most of it was "look at the thing. No LOOK."

About half of all births are covered by Medicaid. Over a third of all children are covered by Medicaid. More than half of all nursing home residents are covered by Medicaid. Republicans in Congress are making a big mistake targeting these families’ health care to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

Rubio's gutting of USAID is illegal and unconstitutional. There is no form of democracy anywhere of any kind that would allow the executive branch to unilaterally cancel budgets and programs passed by the legislative branch and signed into law. It's utter lawlessness.

We need a Navalny, not a Newsom. No offense intended against mainstream politicians like Newsom. It’s just that at this point we are way beyond the realm of normal bullshit politics.

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

Imagine if @aoc @sanders.senate.gov , every dem, SIMULTANEOUSLY held Town Halls where they allowed grant and contract recipients to explain to the country what it is they do and why it's important Invite all media. Including RW podcasters. @spaces Flood the zone Call it a Day Of Transparency

Trust me, bro.

they are mostly targeting black employees so this is quite literally just a repeat of woodrow wilson’s segregationist purge of the federal government

Here are the options on the table (which are not mutually exclusive): 1. House Dems bring articles of impeachment* 2. Senate Dems play constitutional hardball and obstruct everything 3. State AGs litigate (and prosecute) everything they can 4. Citizens march en mass

Importantly, there is no legal requirement that she do so. This is a criminal law which doesn't exist in NY, Carpenter isn't a fugitive, and NY doesn't have an obligation to extradite someone who has done something that is entirely legal in her own state. NY should follow its own laws.

"We know you’re out of power. We understand you’re in the minority. We hear that, loud and clear. What we’re not hearing is your anger. We’re not hearing your outrage. We’re wondering whether or not you actually hear us." charlotteclymer.substack.com/p/comms-advi...

It's a tragedy.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Because they are evil, we must stand up to them. But because they are also stupid, we needn’t be afraid to.

remember stuff like this when they tell you that diversity means a lowering of standards

we have a president with a tenuous grip on small legislative majorities who is out of the gate with a flurry of dramatically unpopular orders and who has just demonstrated his weakness on the international stage. if i were an elected member of his domestic opposition, i might try to draw real blood.

Can we get a recount? Pick your battles Can we object to electors under 14.3? Pick your battles Can we vote against Rubio for SoS? Pick your battles Demand volume II of the report? Pick your battles Call for SCOTUS expansion? Pick your battles Okay but could you pick like ONE battle? ANY battle?

very excited to see what happens when you make a deeply compromised addict the leader of the department of defense and subordinate to a madman

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

This is almost such an obvious point, it feels slightly crazy to point it out, but a politician winning a national election does not mean that the criticisms of that politician were wrong. Nixon and Bush both go reelected and everything their most unsparing critics said about them was right.

Pete Hegseth: Despicable, Unqualified, and Incompetent. Please read my latest essay on Substack, and share. I published a book (Education for Public Democracy) in 1997, and spent 31 years teaching for democracy. Now I’m back writing for democracy. open.substack.com/pub/davidseh...

Mike Turner should change parties after Trump had him removed from chair of Intelligence Committee. Then Dems should put him back on the committee to be a thorn in the side of Mike Johnson's selected Trump puppet for the next 2 years.

Why is Trump saluting this opera singer?

Trump’s hand is not on the Bible. Bibles, that is the larger one will be auctioned to the highest bidder.

No matter where you fall on the TikTok ban, the President undoing by “executive order” a law passed by Congress and upheld unanimously by the Supreme Court is an unconstitutional abuse of power.

Barron Trump looks like a handsome vampire, but mark my word he will be our president in 2028. They will change the constitution, maybe today.
