St Helena is remote but very beautiful and with a very old resident.

Andy Brown hits the nail on the head and keeps on hammering away at the Right’s hypocrisy and dangerous rhetoric.

That brings back memories. As students in Strasbourg in the late 1970s we hitchhiked to Colmar for the day for a festival. After a great day we got a lift back were dropped off in central Strasbourg in torrential rain and arrived home soaked to the skin. Lovely memories.

I watch it every year around this time. Some soothing about knowing what is going to happen.

During election campaigns we became experts at making rosettes and on election day we helped out in the committee room. Probably why I thought politics was fun.

I was involved in setting up a Youth Offending Team in 2000. At the launch in response to media question, the local authority CE said we would see the benefits in reduced crime in 20 years. We did but that’s not the media’s timescale. Similar timeline for success on reducing teenage pregnancies

it was you! I was led to you by Lucy - I acquired my Mum’s SABLE and despite taking some to charity shops I think I’m there

One of the first pieces of advice, from a colleague, was to make sure that you speak into a microphone as that meant you would be heard. Being heard as a woman in a large room (although a small chamber) was my main concern during my maiden speech. Once I could hear myself clearly I relaxed.

As this feels like a discussion that might appreciate some pedantry, can I say that 100% Scrooge depends on whether it’s before or after his ghostly experiences - after “he knew how to keep Christmas well”.

As a teenager I saw Timothy West in Othello - his portrayal helped me understand Iago in a way that hadn’t been clear to me from reading the play. I’ve loved watching him and Prunella’s canal journeys - such a lovely couple. A sad day.

You had birds singing that early??? Even now in Yorkshire it’s dark and foggy, the birds aren’t getting up and neither am I.

Polling stations I visited were mainly calm and well run but very concerned at cameras in most polling stations recording activity and many set up and managed by representatives of the ruling party. #Georgia #Gvote2024 2/2

Very interesting - however we shouldn’t be surprised that investment in early years yields positive results. Our environment has the greatest impact the younger we are. It’s one of the arguments for investment then to reduce social disadvantage as opposed to abolishing tuition fees.

I agree - a perfectly normal thing to do and ensures government makes most of experience on the backbenches. Here’s Alan Milburn accepting a free vite on unmarried adopters - a helpful backbench amendment from David Hinchcliffe www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=...

Lots of bribery too - an ancestor was involved in vote buying in 1865 election in Lancaster, parliamentary inquiry led to the two Liberal MPs being disqualified.
