transferring their chambers to the US guano islands, cutting their staff, banning them from getting air conditioning and giving them exclusively jurisdiction over maritime norovirus cases would be a good idea

Nothing puts the fear of god in me quite like the five words "potential Lucasfilm President, Dave Filoni"

I’m doing my semi-periodic Star Wars (I-VI) marathon, and I hadn’t realized Phantom Menace includes a parliamentarian who steers procedure in the interests of the wealthy. Incredible stuff from George.

Traditionally, tarring and feathering is the minimum punishment meted out to American advocates of divine right monarchy.

I do not think I can be a citizen in this new republic of vice.

I mean as long as we're throwing out the plain meaning of the constitution, bills of attainder against Supreme Court justices is an option.

genuinely incredible that it's this high when the media most centrists and liberals consume is still insisting on "wow! nation amazed by the manly muscular moves of musk's team of geniuses" with "nerd scolds warn trump's moves may violate protocol" on A17

rebuilding state capacity is going to involve the utter destruction of the Republican party, and that means, first of all, transferring every Trump-appointed judge to a circuit in the Guano Islands and cutting their jurisdiction to admiralty cases in the surrounding waters

Texans will not learn until they suffer. They voted to touch the stove and, by God, they will touch the stove.

A real mindfuck that threw me for a loop for a while is that non-citizens voting in US elections was fairly common and uncontroversial in the 19th century. To the extent you had to do anything at all, you maybe had to sign something declaring your *intent* to become a citizen.

We’ve got to rescue the law from law professors. I’m tired of this idea that laypeople aren’t qualified to interpret the unambiguous meaning of plain English and need to hear out arguments from legal Kabbalists that words *don’t* mean what they mean.

The argument here--that it's *morally wrong* to judge somebody by the ideas and beliefs they profess and advocate--has somehow become the dominant elite ideology of our era and it's still the stupidest fucking thing I've ever encountered.

This sure is a moment when civilian control of our city police forces would be helpful!

Games Done Quick this year has been a great reminder that videogame culture - the actual culture, not aggrieved incels on Youtube - is pretty fucking cool. You'll never hear about some grifter raising millions for charity to riotous applause.

Nobody has space for groceries or dry goods in their homes because every cupboard is packed to overflowing with old Rock Band controllers

The environmental movement was a mistake.

I’m sorry, but this is a motte and bailey argument. It’s conflating the idea that every health system necessarily makes trade-offs with the specific decisions UHC made to squeeze patients for money.

Right like the phrenology incels have managed to develop a form of masculine identity antithetical to traditional manliness, it’s sort of amazing

I am a conservative now, in that I think being a grown man spending eight hours a day publicly complaining about the hotness of video game women should be met with shame, contempt, and disdain by the rest of society.

I wouldn’t have expected New Yorkers, of all people, to have low bagel standards

I can kinda see why they’re leery of taking action on screenshots themselves. But man you cannot be letting people go off platform to whip up brigades. Soon you’ll have tons of people doing that. The lack of proactive enforcement is going to create an impossible reactive workload.

Abolishing the FDIC would ultimately destroy the community banking sector. It would probably mean Chase ends up with a monopoly on consumer banking.

The Greeks absolutely had it right when they included a chorus in their plays. They knew audiences are dumbasses who need to be told “THIS MAN IS BAD. HE IS HERE AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT *NOT* TO DO. WOE TO THE BUMPTIOUS FOOL WHO WOULD IDOLIZE HIM. YOU ARE NOT, NOR DO YOU WANT TO BE, ALEX DELARGE”

the big advantage of single-payer is that it creates an entity with enough power to tell hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to go fuck themselves. the consistently highest-yielding investment in the United States for a long time now, beyond a few individual stocks, has been hospital REITs.

Pick a movie, keep one actor. The rest are muppets. My Fair Lady Eliza (Audrey Hepburn)

I wrote about The Groups resnikoff.beehiiv.com/p/picking-th...

I mean if the goal is winning elections, bloodless partisan media that doesn't frag the center-left for attention-economy points is probably better than left media.

Post a ship that’s not star wars or star trek.

Thanksgiving Day outfit

There's a good critique to be made of the Progressive wing of the party (particularly in cities) as primarily a vehicle to steer public money to non-profits with bloated administrative costs, but the best the centrist wing can muster is to route all that money to a *different* set of grifters??

I hadn’t really appreciated how much managerial work consists of explaining to execs that the company cannot create new hours in the week or days in the month.
