Lost in the deluge of nightmares recently was Trump posting the pink triangle which queer prisoners were forced to wear during the Holocaust, by way of the Washington Times

In case you wondered what some of the chats look like in our private @astro.build maintainer spaces: We see you ❤️'ing! We ❤️ you back!

This should terrify every person in this country. The use of machine learning systems to approximate an individuals views on war and then, if they are here lawfully on a visa, tag them for deportation is about as sci-fi dystopian as it gets. www.axios.com/2025/03/06/s...

I need to do a better job sharing what we've been up to with the Fluent Web Components beta. tl;dr– making it a lot faster/smaller and using more platform APIs like popover/anchoring and ElementInternals. 📦 Entire gzip bundle is 55kb 🧮 Avg = ~1.8kb/component 🏎️ FASTElement cost = 500b/component

From the CSS Working Group meeting today… RESOLVED: Add a 'size' shorthand property (for 'width'/'height'), no relation to @page's 'size' descriptor #css

If you’re curious about the new native TypeScript: • Why Go and not some other programming language? 2ality.com/2025/03/type... • Why not C#? 2ality.com/2025/03/type... #TypeScript

Oh look! An @astro.build post on CSS-Tricks! I love how Astro allows for multiple dynamics in the way you build a website. Static? Sure! Dynamic? Yeah sure! Split between the two? Hell yeah! Astro Actions are really handy, so I wrote a post about them 😊

You're going to be tempted to engage in discourse focused on what Mahmoud Khalil said--was it actually antisemitic? Did he endorse Hamas?--and I cannot encourage you enough not to do that. It just doesn't matter what he said because you should not be detained and deported over what you say, period.

NEW: White House says the arrest and deportation of student activist & legal US resident, Mahmoud Khalil, is a blueprint for more. The final line here is chilling. The White House specifically says Khalil was not breaking the law. No evidence, no due process, no crime. He was just disappeared.

they/them who is bad at rust 😔

Feels incredibly vindicating to see TypeScript's native port choose Go. In 2021, I rewrote the @astro.build compiler in Go, with the hope that the coming wave of native JS tooling would align with esbuild, but alas... 😬 I firmly believe the best tool for the job is whatever helps you ship.

My experience with Rust recently

Today it's Palestine, tomorrow it's "gender ideology", the next day it's the Luigi Mangione meme you liked on Instagram

This should be read as a regime commitment to systematic First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, and Fifth Amendment violations.

Columbia grad student with a green card and a pregnant US citizen wife, abducted by ICE because of his political organizing, and now his lawyers can't find him. Hey, @schumer.senate.gov. This is your constituent. Bring him back home.

was thinking about this again in the context of "edge cases", arguments software programmers make for not addressing some particular constituency or other (eg localization, accessibility) because each consideration only represents a sliver of the population and gets in the way of shipping…

This is really really bad because when I was at big law in 2001, a lot of people were repping patriot act detainees pro bono. This is how Trump makes sure no lawyers step up the way they did in airports in January 2017 when he issued the Muslim travel ban EO

Institutions must learn: there's no appeasing fascists. Columbia humiliated itself, broke the law, brutalized students/faculty, and destroyed the concept of truth. It was targeted not in spite of that, but because of it. If you lack integrity and show weakness, you'll be crushed.

Finally learning spline.design! 🎉

We've confirmed the US Bureau of Prisons has transferred trans women to men's prisons despite three court rulings blocking Trump's executive order “I’m continuing to be punished for existing. I'm a pawn in others' political games" -Whitney, 31-year-old woman taken to men's prison this week, told us

All I'm saying is, if you ran a campaign on democracy being at stake and democracy lost, isn't it time to be massively freaking out instead of doing this

Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

If you love the CSS trick for auto-growing textarea using `display: grid`, may I introduce you to auto-growing input using `display: inline-grid`? codepen.io/natemoo-re/p...

I setup my GitHub sponsors not long ago but didn't really mention it anywhere. If you appreciate what I do, these sponsorships do help a lot 🙏 My focus this year is all over like every year 😅 (e18e, chai, tinylibs, chokidar, vueuse, and much more). But I will keep on top of them all

Rep. Zooey Zephyr - My Wife - just gave an incredible speech against a drag ban in Montana. It was so strong that a Republican rose to speak passionately against the bill, chastising the sponsor. The drag ban dies in Montana, flips 10+ Republican votes! This is the power of representation.

“Our soul is based on the fact that we believe that no human being is illegal. We believe that Black people are right to fight for our liberation. We believe that working people should run this country, that our country should work for all working people." - Mayor Brandon Johnson

🦊 when the fascists are at your door, redesign your site about it or words to that effect ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/parker/

fucking evergreen

there’s a political metaphor in here somewhere

you’re fired. wait you’re rehired. email us a list of things you’ve done today wait forget it you’re fired again. come back your job was important. you’re fired. or hired. come in to the office. wait the office has no computers go home. we are the department of government efficiency.

With pnpm v10.6 you can now move your settings from .npmrc to pnpm-workspace.yaml

We strayed from the path when we started letting all these third party platforms be our main content hosts.

node folks put a lot of energy to backport important features, so the ecosystem can move forward years in advance. It requires a ton of hard work that sometimes goes unnoticed. To everyone working on node, we appreciate your efforts 🙏

It’s not much, but I finally changed my mobile search engine to DDG and am trying to move off Chrome for daily browsing.

i think we (as internet explorers) need to be ok about only being a part of small communities and not get fomo around mega platforms if we really want to form real connections again

There it is: a six-word thesis of democracy. But if you have time for two more, allow me to suggest these for a punchy conclusion that sounds great when it's shouted by a crowd: NO EXCEPTIONS.
