God dammit I said gui interface
comment in response to post
I could write an AppleScript right now to control the GUI interface of applications on my computer. I could also right now generate that AppleScript with an ai. It is not a big leap to execution

Why?

You COULD make an agent that has free reign to use all your software the way a real person would, but that is abjectly terrifying whether the operator is OpenAI or SmarterChild
comment in response to post
I feel like my explanation was terrible so I’ll try again: the agent is the middleware that allows an ai model to safely and consistently use proprietary softwares. It does not make sense for OpenAI to make these because it does not make the target software, it makes the operator.

FWIW I do think they oversell how “smart” this stuff is and a lot of what they’re doing is wildly unethical, but the tech IS scary enough to be dangerous without guardrails
comment in response to post
This is hard to explain if you don’t work in software, but most applications kind of have their own language that other software can use to interact with it. You CAN probably just rig this stuff up to simulate button presses like a person using the OS, but like I said, kind of scary.

By mentioning price I was saying that that’s what the interesting development is going to be here. The fact that they’re releasing a developer toolkit at all is not surprising. I don’t know what “correct” pricing would be and I’m not buying it. 1/2

Also often the model needs to be trained on data for niche use cases

you’re misunderstanding what an “agent” is. If these things could just freely use everything on your computer, that would be terrifying. The point of this is to allow developers to integrate the AI in a sane and safe way with their products. OpenAI sucks, but this is unremarkable beyond pricing

The IQ test was originally popularized in the US by eugenicists as a means to identify people unworthy of breeding, so that would be my guess

I know people like this and it’s like they’re so allergic to saying anything negative about unrestrained capitalism that they’ve decided the bad half of “Big Pharma” is the pharma

They’re also involved in the Gaza blockade, which probably has something to do with it

Yeah. As a fellow Tech Guy (man i hate admitting that these days) I’m pretty sure he got it from the book “The Cathedral and the Bazaar”, which is a Tech Guy foundational text, though it seems he’s adapted it for his brand of fascism.

Seriously, what IS this madness? Speaking as a salaried 9-5 drone, I CHERISH the opportunity to tank my productivity by making a sandwich

Ok, I agree that what’s being done to Gaza is horrific and I’m not here to cape for either of those guys, but all those accounts are still probably scams

I know people don’t like this guy because of some drama I don’t follow, but he is 100% right here. I see people constantly sharing gofundmes from accounts with no identity verification or info about donation usage. Wild seeing well meaning online folks fall for probable text scams like my 70yo dad.

I saw some post shaming people who implied that they’re boning because it’s sexist, but what conclusion am I supposed to be drawing here

I think it’s hilarious, which, honestly, is probably a bad sign

I fully support pure catpilled posting, but good to know that your political opinions are also broadly correct

I used to be obsessed with his site. Even now when I’m deep diving a band’s catalogue I’ll go “I wonder what Mark’s take on this is…” is there a list of his 10s?

The first cd I owned as a kid in the 90s was Aja, and I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how this was probably the catalyst for everything that’s currently wrong with me

I’d also like to note that my dad at least had the balls to admit he did a shit job training it

My dad has a small farm and used to have a dog with very similar problems; I literally pulled one of our own chickens out of its mouth once. It is now living very happily with an adoptive family. And this was an ADULT DOG. Insane to shoot a PUPPY over something like this when you can post an ad

I’ll often leave some quiet music on when I go to bed, so Spotify thinks I’m the world’s most hardcore Harold Budd fan
