They’re letting a megalomaniac billionaire desperate for validation play President – if you’re surprised people are pissed, you need to get out of your DC bubble. Nothing more American than hating a bad boss, especially an illegitimate one like Musk. Republicans just don’t like being called on it.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Wise man…

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

Go ahead. Let the people see you for what you are.

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Congress has to pass a budget, and if the Republicans who represent most of rural America wanted, they could demand that the farmers who got screwed by the Trump administration be made whole. Of course, that would require standing up for their constituents. Wonder what they'll do?

jamelle is correct

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

in addition to being a contemptible liar and hollow opportunist, jd vance is also just pathetic. only a guy who has fried his brain on social media would even think to say something like this

Trump's creation of DOGE and appointment of Elon Musk to lead it is unconstitutional. It is unacceptable that Musk is using this unconstitutional appointment to try to cut the federal government to the bone. Today, I filed a lawsuit to shut this illegal power grab down.

From the guy who literally wrote the book on Elon Musk:

in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?

Yes. “People are doing things. You will meet them when YOU start doing things.” Lots of information and resources in this one. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

This energy.

An important announcement from the Governor of Illinois.

🚨BIG SCOOP: Musk’s DOGE Teen Was Fired By Cybersecurity Firm for Leaking Company Secrets Edward Coristine posted online that he had retained access to the firm’s servers. Now he has access to sensitive government information. 🎁 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

So it turns out when you DON'T go woke, you go broke. Trump's New DEI? Dying Economy and Inflation. It's only two weeks in and Trump is Making America Broke Again! www.forbes.com/sites/dereks...

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

And ... that's actually the right framing? This isn't about making government "more efficient" or more productive; it is "anti-government" at its core. Musk called federal workers "the opposition," which says it all. He's a threat to our government, which is to say, he's a threat to all of us.

they are stealing data from the american people and depriving us of the transparency that we are entitled to by law. none of this is legal and not a single federal employee has any reason to comply.

i just cannot get over how much the administration’s response to the crash shows a profound disrespect for the lives of the people they are supposed to serve

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world. Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

🏆 Governor Pritzker- Illinois - has signed an order prohibiting all J6 rioters from state employment.

Every single fucking state government run by a Democrat should do this. Fight the fuck back already.

If you are a federal worker being offered a buyout, I would advise against taking it. Of course, this is a personal decision for everyone and it’s your choice. But these offers are a rush job. The legality is questionable and this admin does not keep to its word. They aren’t firing for a reason.

Trump’s decision to halt federal virtually all federal grants and loans is lawless, destructive, dangerous, and cruel. It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. It’s nothing less than Project 2025 by another name. Congress must act.

While President Trump illegally pauses federal funding from Congress, the Senate must not be business as usual. We do not consent to this lawless power grab.

we have a president with a tenuous grip on small legislative majorities who is out of the gate with a flurry of dramatically unpopular orders and who has just demonstrated his weakness on the international stage. if i were an elected member of his domestic opposition, i might try to draw real blood.

The Senate just received another report that Pete Hegseth has a pattern of alcohol abuse. Confirming him as Secretary of Defense puts our national security at risk.

NEW: Judge CHUTKAN is now weighing in on Trump's mass dismissal of Jan. 6 cases, saying it "cannot whitewash the blood, feces, and terror that the mob left in its wake." www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

latest column is on the dipshit curtis yarvin

I went through Trump's birthright citizenship EO, line-by-flagrantly-unconstitutional-line, to highlight the illegal, the racist, and the just plain incorrect understanding of the constitutional *right* to citizenship. My latest in @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/poli...

I can’t actually says the words I think about this, suffice to call it despicable poison.

George W Bush was talking about a permanent Republican majority four years later Obama wins the biggest Dem sweep in a generation two years after that, the Tea Party happens there are a lot of reasons to be pessimistic about where we are, but shit can turn very fast in American politics

My feeling is that it's not unserious to spend time on the question of whether someone about to be hired for one of the most powerful jobs in the world drugged and raped a woman (as she alleges and he denies) www.nytimes.com/2025/01/15/o...

I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012. Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place. A thread.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth to Pete Hegseth: "You say you care about keeping our Armed Forces strong and that you like that our Armed Forces' meritocracy. Then let's not lower the standards for you. You sir, are a no-go at this station."

GOP members complaining about reduction of military standards while using a chart that misspells the word military!

You can report price gouging landlords from anywhere!
