Poor Myrna. At least the horse was a good costar.

Love it. One of those few films that when it's over, I want to rewind the tape and watch it all over again.

So happy you are you. Your captions are always informative and usually chuckle-worthy. Always brightens my day. Thank you.

Cough, cough. I'd be warming up on the trainer for sure, then!

Oh, interesting. Wonder which way they are leaving Luino. Coastline or straight up hill?

Really always enjoy this one. Easy to file under the "yet another film where Audrey Totter is under-used" but I have to say my favorite character is played by Marjorie Rambeau. "Don't you know coffee is bad for you, unless there's brandy in it?" I think that's the quote I live by.

Gosh, looks like he could have won by a bigger margin if he hadn't started celebrating so far before the line.

Hey, at that rate, I could totally keep up!

Still one of the best articles on Colbert I’ve ever read.

Agreed. It lost out in the reputation sweepstakes compared to My Favorite Wife but I think this one is so much more interesting, especially considering how it ends. Another example of a comedy slipping racy stuff past the Hays code.

Came here to make the same remark. So interesting.

That tagline is great: if everybody were fat there would be no war (!)

Couldn’t agree more. I was going to make a similar comment. I have ridden all over these Gard roads for two decades. But I seldom ride there anymore because I just don’t feel safe. Such a shame.

Looks like kitties are more popular than team line-ups, judging by the "likes" received!

That's nice the locals care for them. We always set out good cat food for the dumpster kitties too.

Kitty in pic #1 looks like (s)he's had a rough time. I know that region well, and the number of kitties making ends meet by living out of dumpsters is really heartbreaking. At least the other three look reasonably well cared for.

That is quite a tidbit of information. Much appreciated.

I have a real soft spot for this one. Ida's excellent as usual, and I love Marjorie Rambeau in it.

Oh, Gina, my tortie, who also had multiple physical issues when she joined our family, heard the purrs and looked concerned. I think she recognized a fellow tortie who’s a fighter.

Oh, it’s been a few years but I remember kinda liking that one. Once you get past Howard Keel at least.

Very well written. Such a pleasure to read something so well done. Sad story, of course.

Agreed. I really hate that Word spellcheck is now codifying grammatic mistakes as being correct. The number of times I have to re-correct Word's split infinitives is depressing.

Home Before Dark is great. Or at least, she's great in it.

Hmmm…can’t say I see much of a resemblance! Must be the hat.

Agreed. The shot where she realizes she has drunk from the wrong glass is especially great.

I'm liking the vibe of the lady in the third pick with the boots on. She gets my vote.

We still certainly have ES 1 on TV, though we don't have the app access, it's true. But with all the choice (including the Swiss stations in three languages), I seldom feel the need to switch to ES, which has more ads and sometimes irritating commentators. But, as you say, no one is safe from cuts.

We're lucky in Switzerland since we have access to Swiss, Italian, German, and French stations (plus Sporza with a VPN). But how I miss the days where GCN had everything in one place with playback options (and those great docs). Really a sad state of affairs.

Too true. Mamoulian never gets the credit he deserves. I always point to that stairway shot near the end of City Streets to prove that early talkies didn't have to be so static. They just needed really great, innovative directors.

I was impressed with this film. Seemed like no one knew how to make a proper film anymore. Conclave had a good script, performances, directing, and editing. Powerful and still just two hours long. Chapeau to all.

I know this article is intended to be kinda tongue-in-cheeky, and your audience appears to be enjoying that, but it seems unfair of you to blame Florence for your inability to read the multiple articles and announcements that did make this fact about the Vasari Corridor clear when it first opened.

Wow. Great shot. I lost track of the number of times I checked Margaret Lockwood’s autobiography out of the library when I was a kid. Wish I had a copy of it now.

Beautiful, but I’m ashamed to admit I was more excited when I initially mis-read that these were Roman cookie jars.
