A few years ago I moved into a new build flat that had been empty for some time. I think the tv licensing enforcement letters went through 3 different cycles from reminder to very threatening (we know you are watching and live here style) and then back round again. All to an empty flat

Listened to Rory Sutherland talk about vapes earlier today and he made the point you could license pubs to sell disposable vapes so those that might have a crafty smoke would be able get a nicotine fix and pubs were already pretty good at keeping u18s out in the first place

My kids school has been de-emphasising the fancy dress for a few years now (if you really want but also midi is cool) and using it to run a fundraiser to buy more books for the school. It feels like a better evolution than fancy dress oneupmanship

This was a great piece, following up on the thoughts from your book, on the benefits of the House of Lords. I wondered your thoughts on appointments being for a period of time, so maybe 8 years and you could be appointed 3 times? Then you have a cycle of openings for people to be appointed.

I assume you’ve seen the piece by @danneidle.bsky.social on this, and I won’t spoil the ending

They will get to spring, realise they are stuffed and delay until Oct, then repeat and the election will be Jan25 because very slim chance of something happening was better than definite defeat
