"Gone to his head" is an understatement. Every one of Trump's/Musk's actions seem to be designed to deliberately and intentionally destroy America and it's allies from within. They are completely consistent with Trump indeed being Agent Krasnov.

All very laudable, but 80% of Israelis disagree. They want all Arabs expelled from Palestine, and don't care what happens to them. The people who want peace are fighting an uphill battle here.

He is technically the American president, but not in any other sense of the word. He's probably the greatest con-man who ever lived, though. Even PT Barnum didn't get himself elected president, twice, based purely on lies.

I'm seeing a pattern here. They fire everybody, and then when they hear a fuss, they hire them back. They don't even need to know what someone does before firing them. They just wait to see if they hear some noise later.

Absolutely. All blue states welcome. Universal health-care, gun-control, abortion rights, gay rights, and no stupid arguments over bathrooms. You'll be healthier and safer. Plus you'd get a much more modern constitution, and a parliamentary system of government that (usually) works.

The monarchy is built into the Canadian government and constitution, so you find references to it here and there. However, most people really don't care. A referendum to make Canada a republic would win overwhelmingly, but it's just too must trouble to go through with it.

This goes without saying, but Trump is as far removed from FDR and Churchill, as it is possible to be.

I used to be an internal auditor for a major US bank. Anything I thought I'd found, would have to be run by management for their comments, and to see if I was wrong. None of that is happening with Musk. He seems to be running wild and making stuff up. He's going to cause a disaster.

Since 85-90% of Canadians are against the idea of joining the US, this can never happen. That said, Canada has 10 provinces, 3 territories, and a land-mass larger than the lower 48. The idea that this could be one state, is itself farcical. It would be 10, minimum. With 18-20 new Democratic senators

I can't even imagine Canada having the kind of governance issues that America has, or someone like Trump getting any traction in a Westminster-style parliamentary system. I seriously think America needs a brand-new constitution, and (probably) a parliamentary system of governance.

I would have said Canada, but our neighbor's become very weird and aggressive.

Seems like yesterday. On the other hand, the 3 weeks since Trump's inauguration, seems like 20 years ago.

Well, I think some of my ancestors came from the Caucasus. Using Israel as a precedent, I think I'll get the US to give me a bunch of weapons, so that I can claim it in the name of "my people". So what if it's been 6000 years? There's no statute of limitations here, right?

Jews formed 7-8% of Palestine's population, before the Balfour Declaration. They actually were indigenous. Everyone else is an immigrant. There are small pockets of Jews all over the world, even in far-flung places in India. Will Jews now take over India?
comment in response to post
It would be nice if they could all live together in peace. However, this is never going to happen as long as most Israelis feel that they are the rightful owners of all of Palestine, because their bible says so, and that the indigenous people need to be permanently subjugated, or destroyed.

You know what seriously and objectively makes more sense than this? Blue states joining Canada, especially the north-east, and the west coast. They'd have a much more modern constitution, a functional government run by a parliamentary system, universal health-care, and gun-control.
comment in response to post
First of all, this is absurd. The vast majority of Canadians are against it, so it would never happen. Secondly, Canada has 10 provinces, 3 territories, and a land mass larger than the United States, so to say it could ever be one state, is even more absurd. Ten states would be more like it.

If Trump actually was a Russian agent, and his mission was to destroy the US and it's allies from within, ask yourself what he would do. He would do exactly what he's doing now. Sowing chaos and discord everywhere, and destroying things and relationships that will be difficult to reconstruct.

The whole point of tariffs is to raise prices. Pretty much everyone knows that, except for Trump and some of his dumbest followers.

Trump's dreaming of a third term. That's where the quick "no" came from.

Theoretically, Congress could have impeached him again for the several dozen crimes he has committed in just the last three weeks. However, we all know how well that mechanism works. There doesn't seem to be anything else. Huge problem with the Constitution.
comment in response to post
The president has power only to the extent granted by the Constitution. If he chooses to ignore a court order, then he is deliberately violating his oath of office, and is theoretically illegitimate. Impeachment is the prescribed remedy, but how well has that worked so far?

Just part of Trump's chaos-du-jour. Annex Canada. Invade Panama. Invade Greenland. Tear up his own USMCA. Tariffs on Temu and Shein. Kill USAID. A mad king making mad pronouncements every day.

The reason is almost certainly a lack of universal health-care. Canada has all sorts of ethnicities living here, but I've never heard of maternal mortality differing by race over here.

You sound just like a certain president I know.

Lots of Canadian tourists flock to Florida. They own property there too. Shame if they were to stop coming.

Today's headlines - falling consumer confidence, rising inflation expectations because of the tariff threat, and a falling stock-market. That's what will stop Trump, if he's ever able to connect the dots - the direct result of his own misguided actions.

When I look at Westminster-style parliamentary systems, they just don't seem to have the sort of problems that the US experiences. No one questions elections, no gerrymandering, and someone like Trump wouldn't get very far. So I think the original system your founder's gave you, needs major change.

I make it a point to listen to Peter Beinart whenever he comes on CNN. I'd never really have understood what's happening in Palestine/Israel without his commentary. I just wish more American Jews, and Israelis, would listen to him. The world would be a better place.

Everything that Trump is doing, is a flashing neon warning sign, about how impractical and unworkable the supposed checks and balances are, in the US Constitution. When they were most needed, they failed miserably. A complete re-think of US governance is essential.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that even the concept of a health-care plan, is no longer a priority for this administration.

You know what I just read? Sean Duffy has spoken to Musk to have his boys upgrade the air traffic control system. Bet everyone will really look forward to flying now.
comment in response to post
At this point, you really have to assume that Musk and his boys have the keys to everything. It's not far-fetched to let your imagination run wild, in terms of what it's possible for them to do. If it were anyone else, the police would have been in there within minutes to arrest them.

One of my first jobs was as an internal auditor for a major US bank. There are strict checks and balances and separation of duties, where other people's money is involved. One person should never be able to do anything. What Musk is doing, is the most egregious violation I can imagine.

At the end of four years, I think the US government is going to be so broken, that there will be no choice but to get a new constitution. Horrible way to get there, but there appears to be no other choice, if America is to ever get a more modern system of government.

He's going to stuff it with worthless assets, purchased from his buddies at over-inflated prices. It's just another grift. He's going to leave taxpayers holding the bag.

The Conservative party in Canada has been on the ascendant for a year and a half. The polls have shown Trudeau losing big for a long time now. Nothing to do with Trump, even though he'd like to think so. Trump's disapproval rating in Canada is 75-80%, maybe higher now.
comment in response to post
Join us in Canada then. An actual (usually) functioning system of government. Universal health-care. Gun-control, Gay and abortion rights. No stupid arguments over bathrooms. No blackmailing over aid.
