“The Epstein Files are coming!”

The Justice Department is continuing a wave of efforts to free Jan. 6 defendants jailed for crimes unrelated to the attack on the Capitol. Tongiht it's Ben Martin, who was convicted for possessing a firearm despite a criminal record for domestic violence.

Remember that Trump had nothing to do with Project 2025, and disavowed much of it, as this excerpt from Project 2025 shows

Are you fucking kidding me dude

I appreciate the deep reporting here but would add one thing: This isn’t just an attack on the federal workforce. It’s an assault on the entire country. We ALL rely on government services that Musk is paralyzing. The impact of his cuts will only grow more horrific. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/u...

One question to ask: What has Trump done in the first month that will help out the working class voters who moved into his coalition last year?

What he is saying here, and they already doing in ways big and small, is spend money Congress has not appropriated. Not refusing to spend money as directed, bad as that is, but spend without authorization. Which is, in plainer terms and by absolute constitutional command, stealing from the treasury.

Republicans are planning to raise the deficit by $4.6 trillion dollars over the decade courtesy of more tax cuts for the rich. Meanwhile, 40% of the contracts DOGE has cut won't result in any savings. And it deleted its 5 biggest spending cuts from its "wall of receipts." Hello?

(guy whose business is entirely government contracts) we’re going to run the government like a business

Are you affected by the @noaa.gov layoffs? I'm a longtime environment reporter interested in NOAA, EPA and USGS. Send me tips: lisasong.42 on Signal Here's what I cover and some examples of my work: www.propublica.org/people/lisa-...

NEW: One of the Justice Department's highest-ranking spokespeople submitted a resignation letter today, citing a "hostile and toxic work environment." nbcnews.to/4i9hhCq

I don’t have words for what’s happening to my friends and colleagues at NOAA right now… absolutely reckless destruction of one of the world’s premier science-driven, public-serving organizations.

USAID staff have two days to clean out their offices at the agency’s former headquarters in DC. People are gathering on the sidewalk in the rain to show their support, applauding workers as they pass by.

fascinating to watch a global superpower tear itself apart for no good reason

every person I know who’s worked for USAID is so proud to represent the U.S. in their roles. this would be a shitty way to treat them if they all HAD been fired for cause, but instead they’re being treated this way because a group of unelected thugs has seized control of the federal government

No more work-from-home, government workers, except for Kash Patel, who will run the FBI from Las Vegas www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

BREAKING The SEC has just halted its fraud prosecution of Justin Sun, a Chinese national who has put more than $50 million in Trump's pocket since November through the purchase of crypto tokens from a Trump-backed company, World Liberty Financial.

When are major media outlets going to cover the extraordinary white supremacist links of Vance, Musk, and many of the DOGE staffers? There is absolutely no modern parallel for what’s happening: a presidential administration taking instruction from white nationalist extremists.

A sampling of the garbage Facebook served up in my timeline this morning without context or correction.

Per Puck’s Leigh Ann Caldwell, Spartz flipped on the budget vote after Trump screamed at her: “others could clearly hear the president’s voice screaming out of the speaker. She was a fake Republican derailing his agenda, he yelled. He was the president, he reminded her.” puck.news/how-trump-st...

Every news outlet reporting Elon Musk's comment about accidentally canceling Ebola prevention efforts and quickly restoring them should also say they haven't been restored, they're still canceled, the outbreak-fighting teams are dismantled, the money is gone www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Scientists: We may have finally found a cure for one of the cruelest human diseases! The United States:

You can’t make this stuff up. Trump supporters spent the past few years obsessing over an apparent sex trafficking cabal in charge of our country. And yet one of the first things Trump seems to have done, apparently, is push to get the Tates, charged with sex trafficking, released from Romania.

Qanon basically came true. a cabal of pedophile sex traffickers has seized control of the state news.sky.com/story/andrew...

"We are becoming less free and our government more corrupt and abusive. But these changes are rarely perceptible from the vantage point of daily life. At least at the start, before some become too entrenched, too consolidated, too invasive to ignore." How it happens, via @aselrod.bsky.social:

every passing day they make this country weaker, sicker, poorer, dumber, lonelier, nastier and just straight up grosser. Who could possibly want this.

Do you know when the EPA declared greenhouse gasses to be harmful? In 2009.   These science-denying ideologues are literally taking us back in time and trying to wreck our ability to fight the climate crisis and ensure clean air and water for the American people. We must stop them.

Musk is actively undermining air safety, potentially causing crashes, then awarding himself a $2.4 billion contract to fix what he is breaking? This is not conflict of interest, this is criminal insanity! Amount of money Musk is stealing from US is bigger than all his “savings” combined.

They’re firing disabled veterans

Our government is being run by random right-wing and far-right influencers on Twitter, many of whom are anonymous, many of whom are not who they say they are

Real talk: The entire payroll of the federal government is ~$110 billion. DOGE can't save as much as Elon has taken.

Cassidy was the key vote to confirm RFK Jr, who will probably recommend ivermectin to stop the measles outbreak.

Love to become a subservient vassal state for a dying authoritarian nation with 90% lower GDP than your own, to own the libs

Who among us hasn’t done a little Ebola oopsie

Birds along the Platte River are showing up on the radar this afternoon.

Cancelling Ebola prevention is the sort of "mistake" that should get you kicked out of a cabinet meeting — not invited to it. But I guess the rules are different when you pay your way in with a $280 million check. This is idiocy, not efficiency — and it's costing America dearly.

When Elon’s boss gets back from her vacation south of the border, will she run the cabinet meetings?

They are following the measles epidemic like a proud parent.

I’ve written up a fuller version of this take at Arc Digital www.arcdigital.media/p/the-unbear...

1. Massive job cuts 2. Many federal contracts disrupted 3. Extreme regulatory uncertainty 4. Huge new tariffs They’re basically just shooting the economy in the face

google is more craven and beholden to bigots than john deere

Conservatives monitoring egg prices during Biden's administration compared to during Trump’s administration:

People keep saying "it's gonna be a long four years," and I keep saying: this cannot go on for even a small portion of that. People will die, government will crumble, America will go to war, and our democratic republic will be dead, buried, and rotted out top to bottom. He *must* be removed ASAP

DOGE quietly deleted the 5 biggest spending cuts it celebrated last week: * An $8 billion cut at ICE was actually $8 million * Three $655 million cuts at USAID were actually a single cut counted three times * A $232 million cut at the SSA was actually $565,000 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/25/u...

A race see which happens first: hurting so many people including their own voters that there’s a massive public backlash or dismantling democratic institutions to the point they can keep power despite public discontent.

i think it's fair to assume that as DOGE gets more embedded and hoovers up more techbros, this is what will happen over and over - the DOGE personnel who get access to gov data are from the same companies that will financially benefit from that data.
