Watch while it's still available. The people in this doc are roughly my parents age. Very much still around. Very much all in living memory. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiIw...

NEW: Whistleblower records show that the NIH axed research grants – even after a federal judge blocked the cuts with an injunction. www.propublica.org/article/trum... 🧵

I actually kind of like these "100 men vs a gorilla" type things. Yes there is a lot of comedy and ridiculousness. But also people are actually trying to think through a problem. How it's defined (do we get weapons?), and what might happen.

The Trump administration has revoked the visas of nine current and postgraduate University of Washington students without prior notice to the students or school, the university said Monday.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

ACH is collecting information about impacts on research. If your National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) or Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) work has been impacted, or if you anticipate future impacts, let us know.

Me in the party when Pop Smoke come on

Listen, I’ve been all about mocking them instead but it does not endear you to the educated liberal folks, for sure. A lot of pearl clutching. Also, they’re not GOOD at mocking, maybe best they don’t try. I know the whole “satire didn’t stop WWII” bit but I think some punching up can pierce the veil

looks like I'm writing a book. title to be something along the lines of "Critical Approaches to Human Cognition" coming to a well known academic press sometime in the near future. hopefully not too long. I hear writing is pretty easy. 😭

White folks talking about the Obamas still / always — “please come save us” — remind me of that joke from “Get Out.” “I would’ve voted for Obama a third time.” Sometimes I wonder if y’all reference the Obamas so frequently because they’re the only black couple you feel you’ve gotten to know.

“Everybody in math and physics uses it.” Nearly 35 years ago, Paul Ginsparg created arXiv, a digital repository for sharing research. It changed science for good. Three decades in, Ginsparg reflects on its legacy—and its future.

update tomorrow 📚

is you texting war plans to journalists on Signal?

Here at Princeton, we’re amplifying our university president’s leadership. It’s time for everyone - faculty, students, staff - to speak out. tl;dr: rights can’t be blackmailed. From me and science colleagues: www.dailyprincetonian.com/article/2025...

Scientists who are actively against fascism because fascism is bad, not just because sometimes it hurts scientists, are my people

Large crowd in New York City at Stand Up for Science.

So much for anticipatory obedience.

me every morning. ( re: stickwithfinn.com/products/loc... )

at some point I could do 100+ push ups every morning. that feels like a million years ago 😭

I've never had more protracted "we like it, but just one more thing" paper reviews than when I started writing about critical approaches. There's always one more thing.

We need more stories about how people win together and not because a savior with magical entitlement to Save the World swoops in to save the day

Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

Exactly what scholars said would happen when the immigration policies were announced. Drops in international students, leading some universities to take more domestic students, leading other universities to budget deficits because they can't hit enrollment targets. www.bbc.com/news/article...

This

"NPC" as an insult has its roots in 4chan memes and suggests not only that some categories of people aren't really people, but that they are disposable in a moral sense. It is not just an illiberal insult, it is a fascist insult with genocidally violent undertones.

This is like Senators asking for Trump to release funding for their pet projects. When you campaigned for a personalist presidency you have turned yourself into a beggar seeking the King’s favor rather than a citizen who can be confident of equal treatment for all.

This is happening everywhere, officially and unofficially.

I got half a mind to go. 😭

Can confirm mass layoffs of probationary employees underway or about to commence at National Institutes of Health (NIH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Fish & Wildlife Service, per agency sources.
