Socks for #shoemeyourkits. Have discovered that multi-colored socks are WAY more interesting to knit.

Did not need this slap of reality, alphabet children's book.

this ‘jurassic park’ story 😭

A fantastic example of 'Sometimes resistance is just being annoying as fuck.' Not a single moments public peace ever. No fun vacations, no nice meals out, no uninterupted shopping. No beach, no theme park, no tourist town should be enjoyable for them for the rest of their lives.

Like most people I was perplexed by Megalopolis but Coppola's response to being singled out for scorn by the atrocious Razzies is better than the movie.

a cloture vote for the way-harder-to-undo-than-an-executive-order federal anti-trans sports ban is now set for monday. that means there's more time to make calls. no on cloture means it doesn't get a vote. the GOP needs 7 dems to advance it. please call. there is *so* much evil downstream of this.

Anti-vaccination is literally a eugenics project that is the actual stated goal it's to kill your unworthy children

This! If you can switch from Whole Foods to a different grocery store and buy your books from bookshop.org instead of Amazon, that’s still a big step even if you feel tied to Amazon for other items. If everyone divested 30% that’s more than if a few people divest 100%.

I will reiterate: I had MMR when I was younger. My 2006 titers were fine. My 2023 titer for measles was inconclusive. Second dose of MMR wasn't added to the CDC schedule until 1989. If you are older, yours may have lost immunogenicity.

Got confirmation that I'm dealing with *gestures at world* by knitting when the yarn store I order from included a "you've been busy!" note with my order.

Saw a guy wearing a "Fuck Biden" shirt in the produce dept today then this by the eggs.

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

State Humanities Councils get virtually all their funding from the NEH and do amazing work to support local history and literature, including regranting funds to local groups. This nonsense will actively prevent people from learning about and appreciating the history and culture of where they live.

In acknowledgment of the anniversary of Executive Order 9066: a song about the art and beauty folks made in a horrible, unjust situation. open.spotify.com/track/5qlsG2...

I just did this. It took 5 minutes. If you want protection against DOGE fucking with your data, do this now.

If you haven’t ordered your last round of free Covid home tests, get ‘em now before they’re destroyed. special.usps.com/testkits

My sister has acquired this for her cat and I'm really enjoying the learning process videos she's sending. Her cat is ready to use some muscle to get to the food source. thepetpiano.com/products/pet...

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

In a sentence never before uttered by humans, I am delighted to share that an alligator stole my conservation instructor’s hat by jauntily walking into the water while wearing it 🐊

I know the spiteful assholes behind this move see it as a way to punish those pointy-headed professors, but this will hurt their students, their communities and states, and also ordinary Americans who benefit from scientific breakthroughs at these universities in countless ways.

FX renewing "English Teacher" — a show I *really* liked — sends a very clear message regarding whose experiences/stories/accusations we find significant and whose experiences/stories/accusations we do not. And I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why FX feels like sending that message.

Cat butt

Hear me out — If parents call colleges freaked about their FAFSA data being leaked, schools may have to issue statements — which would reach a whole lot more families about how warped this is. Organizing isn’t always calling electeds. Sometimes it’s just calling people with a bigger megaphone.

french pinup artists were on a different level

Y’all should probably go ask some Black bioethicists about those racist ass comments to understand their true horror and how they’re connected to contemporary medicine beyond “white people are racist.” There are whole books on this, I promise. Accessible ones, too.

Caticorn sweater done, though it needs a block to stretch out the sleeves. #showmeyourknits

This is so goddamn funny

Well, FLOW was gorgeous. At least, the parts I saw when Youngest wasn't sobbing and insisting on being carried into another room.

What's happening now is designed to overwhelm, discourage and disorient us. There are evidence-based practices that can help center us in the eye of the storm so we can be more effective in responding. If you could use one now, here's a series of brief, daily meditations I can't recommend enough:

the thing most people, and most notably white people but this applies across the board, is that resistance to oppression is neither a marathon nor a sprint but a diverse and multi-faceted effort, much of which will result in no victories whatsoever but you do it anyway, the little things

In today's reminder of what's still good in the world, BEHOLD THIS TABLE. It's the work of Master Woodworker David Robinson, shared by his son Callum on Twitter. Callum's woodworking memoir, "Ingrained", is out now: www.amazon.co.uk/Ingrained-up...

Time for APOLLO 13, which falls into my comfort movie genre of "a bunch of competent people work really hard to save people."

Now would be an excellent time to start wearing a respirator. Do it as a show of solidarity with those who’ve spent five years being told they’re expendable Do it for yourself. You don’t want to become disabled in the MAHA era Your health is a gift. You have agency and resilience. Don’t waste it

One of my favourite small David Lynch moments is when he tried to do one of those ceramic art cows for New York City and submitted this and was rejected.
