A sizeable majority of people approve of the Affordable Healthcare Act. A sizeable majority disapprove of Obamacare.
The very defintion of idiocracy in action.

I am a big fan of the Irish Rover. They have a lamb burger on the menu that is, at least to me, amazing.

They chose not to endorse Harris. They are bringing this on them by their foolishness.

I'm thinking we may have to change some of our terminology. There are some Evangelicals who do practice Christianity. I like to differentiate them from the Evangelicals who worship Baal, aka MAGA. RC Bishops have been absent from this. Francis gave them direction. I wonder if they will follow.

I learned this the hard way. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Maybe I'm wrong but we Mainliners nurtured ourselves into the Kumbaya, big tent culture. We really do want to get along. The problem was that the fundies were playing to win. While we wanted peace they wanted victory. Our big tent forgot we had people opposed to being open hearted.

Many of them are going to take it in the neck. Poor, rural people voted for him in droves. MAGA policies will devastate them

Okay, seriously. Here is a problem, aat least in my perspective. I know what MAGA stands for. It's appalling, but I know what they stand for. I don't know what the Democrats stand for. They never seem to actually address serious issues---and they need to do so!!!!

Are you referring to the Gulf of an Old White Guy's Insecurity?

Gustave Gilbert was a psychologist who analyzed Nazi war criminals. He determined that the foundation of evil was lack of empathy.

Good point. So you are going to way back.

Interesting thread. I have tended to view it as the rise of individualism in Christianity. The whole 'personal relationship' idea---which may be consistent with your viewpoint. Faith is about ME and not about my relationship with others, the world, creation, etc. Does this make sense?

Mariann Budde just demonstrated the danger of women preaching with authority in churches. They may preach truth to powerful men. God forbid.

Good. People are working to disparage an amazing woman because she had the audacity to preach the Gospel, focusing on mercy for the marginalized, to powerful, merciless people. Perhaps if they listened to her...

I actually had the chance to hear her and meet her in Louisville last year. She's great. She was actually in high school with my sister...different years and they didn't know each other, but I think it's cool. I'm happy she's in DC!!!

People spoke on how awful Marxism would be, presuming a society embraced it totally. Instead they embraced the world view of Ayn Rand where endless greed rules. Then they mixed the anti-religious Rand with legalistic religion attacking personal lives. A truly toxic brew we have concocted.

I think we live with the illusion that one of the sides is actually good. I fear bad actors are bilaterally present.

The women can get treated in the ER. Many, however, avoid the ER because they are afraid of prison and this fear becomes lethal. So much for 'pro-life.'

I spoke to an OB/GYN friend. The issue is safe abortion. The reality is that mifepristone and misoprostol, even when not prescribed, are easily available, often on the black market. You know. Drugs. They are best taken under medical supervision or the woman can end up in the ER.

"Heroically." The irony of your usage of the word, which I know you are aware of, is that people do see this as heroic. He's speaking 'the truth.' I'm wondering if 1st Baptist of Fort Walton (his church) but Matthew 25 out of their pew Bibles. The the prophets.... Etc.

You are seriously right. What I find fascinating is that white, rural, working class people consistently vote against their best interests. They vote for the people who keep them poor and underserved.

No. Sadly, I suspect Dolan is the 'rule' instead of the exception. Funny thing about Francis is that he actually seems to attempt to practice Christianity and it makes him 'peculiar' among church leaders.
