He's got that dad energy down... Oh wait, it's actually condescending paternalism.

Just heard those help desk analysts are being told to stay until July to train their outsourced replacements. If they don't, they forfeit severance benefits. There's a lot of context as to why this all pisses me off. I've avoided Sbux since leaving in 2017. But this is stupidly low even for them.

Oh, apparently they also eliminated retail IT... As in, the folks who manage the POS systems and other tech functions within the stores. Some managers weren't informed their directs were cut. Bravo, Starbucks, for staying true to your dysfunctional culture that values "relationships" over utility.

The first time I heard Saka speak (a KUOW interview, IIRC), his voice reminded me of someone but I couldn't figure out who he sounded like. The second time, it clicked and now I can't unhear it: Tom Haverford from Parks and Recreation. Same intonations.

So if you've shrunken the potential denser parcels down by like 50%, it's going to take at least twice as long to meet the target housing units that were already known to be short of demand. But I think a fair share of these folks aren't thinking of it like that. It's all about "greedy developers."
comment in response to post
Because the fact is, when we further shrink the upzoned areas, we prolong the housing crisis. See, the upzoned areas don't immediately turn into denser housing and mixed-use. The changes only happen when property is sold and a new owner would rather develop than keep a SFH.

I remember reading a couple comments on the One Seattle Plan in the neighborhood asking for more concentration on arterials, and specifically using those denser buildings as "buffers" for SFHs from arterials. I think those people don't understand the impact of that unmet housing demand.

I don't even know where to start with the FCA issues after closely watching for the past 18 months or so. I've lived in Fauntleroy 7+ years & the FCA has done some good but has also fought to stop many improvements to QoL for younger & middle-class. Parking and views have been the true priorities.

Forgot to mention I live in Fauntleroy!

@nytpitchbot.bsky.social? That you? Did they finally take one of your pitches?

"We voted for $30 tabs but our governor hates democracy and took them away from us!" Or "I'll start paying my car tabs when the state gives us decent roads!" -Actual arguments from people who don't renew their tabs. But this is my fave... Taken Dec. '24 so not expired, but also very incorrect.

LOL exactly my thought

Gah, like an urbanist "It's a Wonderful Life" (if NIMBYs hadn't intervened)

Fine, here's a more dignified pose.

Yeahhhh I'm a huge disappointment to them, lol.

Oh, I'm sure no one would really mess with someone else's brand new Tesla... Totally unrelated, this flu season has been really rough. I'm going to start masking anytime I'm in public, even outside. And that winter sun can cause eye damage, so will also be wearing sunglasses.

Separately, I'll endorse Six Bells LLC; Casey has now done replacement fences for a few of my neighbors and is absolutely a wonderful human.

I'm by Lincoln Park and there was one in the LP lot for two full days a few weeks ago. I was so tempted to do *something* but am also a Girl Scoutâ„¢ so chickened TF out. At this point, though, I'm in it. Let's go.

Totally. But that does make the socioeconomic picture more complex. It's something I struggled with, because theoretically I'm on board with independent private schools (if I have to choose a private school flavor) but Catholic or Lutheran Church funding introduce more diversity into their schools..

Ugh, so they were from stickeryou.com but the specific seller is gone. Looks like you can upload your own image and order magnets or stickers.

LOL literally a guy who's bidding to replace my fence. We ended up talking current events, sussed each other out (I do have a "Save Curby" yard sign) and he showed me his magnet stash and gave me a few. Low-key resistance fence guy 😆 Texting for source...

My mom (b. 1956) still talks about this. We could have had a robust passenger rail infrastructure, but opted for pools?!

Ah, good idea. Four of these waiting for a home 😆

Someone gave me a small stack of anti-Tesla magnets today and I had errands to run this evening. Was definitely bummed to find no parked Teslas in the wild. Thinking it's not a coincidence. Are the Tesla drivers are avoiding public parking?

But "the mandate" tho

Damn, I missed this post! And I was literally just talking to my partner about WSB and NIMBYism, too. "Evil developers" strike again.

SHOCKED.

My kid entered elementary when Spectrum was being phased out. Or at least there were still district pages and parents of older kids referencing it, so it was super confusing.

And we're both theoretically all-in on public because of the collectivist principle. The system degrades further as people exit. But I get that everyone has a line for their family well-being. I wish SPS didn't make this so hard and do so much directly counter to the health of the district.

Yeah, so ironically the most socioeconomically diverse private schools are the religious ones. My husband went through Christian school and is very opposed to that option. But independent private is $30k+ for elementary/middle. HS? $45K+ I've known some of those fams and get the same snooty vibes.
comment in response to post
That is *rough* to hear. Yikes. Like those moments when my kid has gone a little too far into a YouTube rabbit hole and I have to pull him back to reality.

So interested to know more about your experience! Thanks for sharing. We have had a good experience at Madison so far (all of five months in) and have heard great things about WSHS. I did all public school & my husband did all private religious (lol he's atheist now). We're both public advocates.

Totally. I need to do another thread about my fam's specific experience, but when my son got a Fairmount Park spot in 4th grade, we knew it was the right move. But we also knew switching schools is a big deal. Luckily FPE and Gatewood (nbhd school) fed to same MS & he knew FP kids, so it was easier.

And I started hearing rumblings of HCC "going away" in 2018 from an SPS teacher neighbor with kids in the program, as my son was entering Kindergarten.

Glib answer: Nope, sure can't!
