The whole idea of having to present a GRC to access female only spaces is ludicrously unworkable. The people who are most likely to be negatively impacted will be AFAB women whose appearance doesn't fit into gender "norms".

Well, that just set me off crying. Tears of rebellion and defiance. Not all protests have to be on the street with placards.

Precedent should potentially have been set in the case of Ewan Forbes which was before Corbett v Corbett. The outcome of the case was suppressed due to its potential impact on primogeniture inheritance. Zoe Playdens book "The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes" covers it in depth. Well worth a read

I genuinely hope she has found peace with herself, however if she truly had/has gender dysphoria, it is likely to turn round and bite her on the ass at some point in the future.

Only 2 pieces left! I'll start the diet tomorrow.

Anybody got her email address? I'll let her know what I still think.

Thank you for the clarification. An outside group just hiring the room makes more sense, not that it puts me more at ease. It still feels very thought policey

I like that. Much better way of thinking of it. Maybe that's how we convince ourselves that we are not repeating the same atrocities/mistakes.

Excellent thread. As you point out, we are of our country but not responsible for it. However, we are responsible for a continuation of the thinking and ideologies that caused the sins of our ancestors. Unless we change that, we are doomed to a repeat of the past.

I could have written those words myself. After regularly visiting New England from the UK over the last 15 years to see family, I am not willing to take the risk under the current regime and have cancelled my plans to visit this summer.

I've been quite a few times over the last few decades. The nurses are always friendly and professional, explain what's happening, and remind me to keep checking myself on a regular basis. No one was offended, assaulted or frightened. Reality v GC fantasy.

Thanks. Nick. Is that of benefit to links to or from BlueSky, or maybe both? Either way it feels like corporatisation of what up till now feels like an independent space.

I don't even know what means. Anyone able to (politely) explain?

And here we are now, in the neo liberal sunny uplands that Thatcherism has led us to. Can it get any better?

This is surreal #bbcqt. Greg Swenson, the chairman of Republicans Overseas, thinks the USA is paying for the French to have 6 weeks holidays (that's 30 days) and free healthcare. The stupidity of Trump, the Republicans and neo liberal economic dogma are leading us into the dark ages.

Thank you purpeelectric.bsky.social I know I've missed a lot. Happy for others to fill in the blanks. The Renters Rights Bill does just feel like a continuation of the Tories protection of property owners.

I've voted Labour all my life - until the last election. I've tramped the streets knocking on doors, posing leaflets, fighting the Labour cause and been an active member of my local Labour group. I guess I'm what would have been regarded as part of Labour's core vote. No longer.

Strengthened border control and increased returns of failed asylum seekers That's just stolen from the Reform playbook 11/

Strengthened police response to violence against women and girls That's just words. I'll believe when it happens Also balanced against the attack on trans people. 10/

Launched improvements to public transport This is a step forward - but then increased bus fares by 50%. For a family of 2 working parents that could be a hit of Β£80 a month. If they have to get 2 buses to work and back that's Β£160. That's hardly a win in the eyes of those on the breadline. 9/

Launched a strategic defence review Given the current world issues any government would be reviewing strategic defence 8/

Launched a major devolution of powers to local government This is meaningless without appropriate allocation of funds. Councils are effectively bankrupt throughout the country and are falling back onto only providing statutory services. 7/

Legislated to improve the regulation of the water industry Don't need to say anything here other than Thames Water. My water bill has gone up by more than 30% with no increase in service. This is a fail not a win. 6/

Fast-tracked legislation to improve workers’ rights Balanced against the erosion of right to protest. Be a good worker but woe betide if you want to complain. 4/

Improved the incomes of many of the poorest I think the poorest may not be happy with the attack on benefits (most of which are claimed by working people) Attack on PIP Removal of winter fuel allowance. It seems the poorest are fair game

Happy for you Des. You're obviously comfortable in life and not in one of the minorities that are being persecuted by the current Labour government. This government have done a few good things (allegedly) - but it's far outweighed by the bad things.

Constantly monitoring the hate on social media is tiring and debilitating. Be kind to yourself, take time out to be with friends, smell the flowers, walk in the sunshine. Your health, physical and mental, is priority.
