Small men always grow angry when they are confronted with the type of man they wish people saw them as, but can never be.

misinformation on this topic kills children. journalists always have a responsibility to Don't Print Lies In The Newspaper but it's especially true for childhood vaccinations.

Umberto Eco put together a now-famous list of 14 attributes of fascistic states. I'm going to discuss each of them in hopes this helps ppl understand that fascism is not just a buzzword. We're going to go through these by theme, so strap in. 🧵

Update: 15 confirmed cases. Health officials are racing to offer vaccines to unvaccinated children, they're operating a mobile unit to screen for cases, pre-treating exposed infants. Schools & hospitals are on alert. Measles outbreaks are v hard to contain. A totally preventable situation.

"No president in history has unilaterally shuttered an agency formally enshrined in law — let alone deputized his wealthiest donor, Elon Musk, to carry out that task in his name with little oversight or accountability."

"Gaza development plan" is such an Orwellian turn of phrase, such an abuse of language to normalize a proposed ethnic cleansing

“Believe it or not, electric bikes offer more exercise than pedal bikes on average. That might sound strange, but the science is clear.” Why e-bikes give more exercise than “acoustic” bikes. (but both are excellent for better cities, and both are a LOT cheaper than cars, especially after tariffs!)

Yup. This is your call to action reminder from your ally, good neighbour, business partner, friends & family. Expressing contrition or wishing to move to 🇨🇦 is insufficient. _Sharing examples of letters sent to your *federal reps* will be a start_ #BoycottTrumplandia

How in this global environment could you aspire to be Prime Minister and refuse security briefings? Absolutely absurd. Politics isn’t a game especially in this case. On this basis alone, Poilievre is not up to the job of PM. And he’d get eaten alive by Trump. www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

You know Poe's Law and Murphy's Law? We need a new one for "the likelihood your children will be too sick to attend school/daycare exponentially increases with the number of immoveable meetings in your calendar." 😭

Last year, we embarked on Pasta Quest 2024, my favourite New Year's resolution ever. We tried 41 distinct pasta shapes and it was a really fun way to break out of a recipe rut. This year will be Cheese Quest 2025, with 3 cheese already on the list.

Here's my top hack for traveling with little kids (especially to see family): embrace the 20+ hour layover. Get a cheap hotel near the airport with a shuttle and a pool. It breaks up long journeys beautifully, makes your trip feel more like a vacation, and kids love it.

We finally made a new episode of Dear Dual Perspective. In this one, we critique a few recent Dear Abby columns. open.spotify.com/show/0fM2Qte...

"It seems to me like nobody goes into pro boxing unless their life outside the boxing ring is harder than a life inside the boxing ring would be"

“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.” #Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

I think I set a new high score at the grocery store yesterday...😬

My 3 year old renamed mashed potatoes "crushed tatoes" yesterday and I don't think I'll ever call them anything else.

The false and confusing narrative against bike lanes healthydebate.ca/2024/12/topi... via @healthydebate.bsky.social Great piece. Yes, #move!

Got a surprisingly good latte in an airport! It's a Christmas miracle.

Did you know that by substituting your morning coffee with green tea, you can eliminate up to 93% of what little joy you have left?

I'm dancing in this super cute and fun show at the Yukon Arts Centre on Nov 28-29. Tickets are going fast - you won't want to miss out! yukonartscentre.com/whats-on/vev...

Reading old novels like Anne of Green Gables, it's striking how normal it was for otherwise healthy kids to just up and die. Everyone was sad, but it was understood as unavoidable. AND THEN WE GOT VACCINES!

I haven't posted here in quite a while, so here's an update. The Yukon Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform's final report is now available: www.yukoncitizensassembly.ca Chairing the Citizens' Assembly was an honour. This process completely changed my view of the public and community building.

Looks like the X-odus is finally happening.

I really enjoyed researching the parenting advice industry, and how it shows up on social media, for this episode: Scrolling through Motherhood anchor.fm/deardualpers...

we had fun dunking on that bad a.i. image of the midcentury guy driving his car to work, posted by some RETVRN nostalgia dumbass, but the larger point is, midcentury advertising is capitalism's version of socialist realism. People are nostalgic for something that never existed.

What if fixing climate doesn't mean doing everything the same way, except with less CO₂ emissions, but fundamentally changing the way we interact with nature and with other people?

It took us almost half an hour this morning to get two adults, two kids and a dog fully geared up to walk to school and work in -33.

the rest of history is just going to be billionaires throwing little tantrums while half the population thinks it’s the coolest thing ever because they believe the pinnacle of human achievement is to be an extremely powerful baby

Gorsuch 'borrows', with examples cited as 'sloppy', and definitely keeps his job, while Claudine Gay 'plagiarizes' and is forced out. The differential treatment of Gorsuch compared to Gay, and the ultimate consequences, are so ridiculously obvious. www.politico.com/story/2017/0...

He died doing what he loved.

dystopia

same with vaccines. there’s a class of things that work so well that people just can’t comprehend it.

IMPORTANT: This ranks a bunch of ways we get around cities, using average carbon emissions by transport type in grams per pkm. It breaks emissions down by operation, manufacture etc. Feet and bikes win. Lots of ways beat electric cars, and everything beats gas cars. HT @copenhenken

Motorist supremacy culture is completely adult-focused. Drivers who yell about being made to slow down or cede 1/8 of the road to a bicycle lane believe that children have no right to the city and that urban streets are to be used only by adults with cars going about their business.
