I feel stupid. My ADHD ass decided on Monday to sell off the index fund shares in my retirement account (a very smol retirement account sadly) and finally submitted the order this evening and it probably won't be processed til midday Monday.
oh well. I was never good with money

Well the CU *does* try to keep Earth a little backwards technologically. Maybe they slooowly coaxed Earthers backwards from their iPhone30xls to Palm Pilots over the course of decades?

Eating the rich is a great goal, but if you're gonna storm the castle, you gotta keep eating once your moderate amount of food is gone in ten days.
Conservatives are, by their nature, better at this than lefties. I don't want to rely on their nonexistent charity in a SHTF world.

If I decide to buy 5000 rounds instead of 50 or 500, am I being selfish and mean?
Can't exactly work towards a post-scarcity society if you're dead or debilitated ahead of time. If shit happens, and you run out of food a week later, how do you survive?
comment in response to
post
I honestly don't get it
this isn't a manic panic purchase of an entire shelf of toilet paper. This isn't trying to create artifical scarcity during a crisis to reap profits.
If, out of an abundance of caution, I pull most of my cash out this week, am I starting a run on banks?

Should I do the most with my resources now, or wait til corporate greed escalates in a crisis?
What's wrong with being a food bank?
comment in response to
post
it totally computes
buying in moderation ahead of a potential collapse could leave not only you but family and friends in a suboptimal position. There's no scarcity right now, I wouldn't be denying someone else access. If nothing bad happens everything will still get used, so no waste.

Like I can't even deal with listening to music I loved growing up, except on rare occasions.
Like "ooo I wanna hear the guitar solo from Cherub Rock" or "I'm in a shitty mood how about Thieves by Ministry" but normally I'm just listening to the latest indie stuff.

ah OK that tracks
my dopamine-seeky goes in the other direction, rampant neophilia. Maybe I don't remember the details of a previously watched film, but if it's been a couple times I can't work up enough interest to see it again.
I need new new new all the time (except for jeans/hoodies)

I suppose, but depending on the who and the how, there could be a sort of "to each according to needs, from each according to means" thing going on
If I've got plenty, and people around me don't, I'll happily give it or barter for some help on stuff
I'm not a very good capitalist I guess

I... honestly don't think I've watched any movie more than 3x, max. Like not even Traditional Holidays Movies.

Also can we please take note of the headline, check out the word "near."
Deal is not finalized and President Zelensky has already shot down previous (and ridiculous) offers this week. He's not going to sign off on it if it doesn't properly benefit Ukraine πΊπ¦
Also, it's 5AM Saturday morning in Kyiv

I don't know why everyone is assuming this is a sellout or that it was forced with a gun to his head. He's not a pushover.
Ukraine needs cash, industry needs rare earth minerals. I'd rather the dollars go to Ukraine than China.
Withhold judgement for now maybe

None of us were there, and it's 430AM in Kyiv. Let's hear what he has to say about it.
comment in response to

Let's wait to hear from President Z before passing judgement maybe.
If he got what he wanted from the deal - like a big pile of Dollars to spend on whatever Ukraine needs - as long as he didn't cave to pressure then what's the problem
international trade doesn't revolve around hugs and kisses
comment in response to
post
As long as it was an actual negotiation, with πΊπ¦ getting the deal they actually want, and as long as the dollars are paid up front, I don't see the problem.
I mean ffs, international trade between unfriendly nations happens all the time. π·πΊ natural gas in Europe(til recently), for example.

As a bloc they're not terribly concerned with women's autonomy
abusing a girlfriend - especially one who's slutty enough to be with a married man (totally not his fault he was tempted by Eve's original sin or something) - is more cred for him

The "downsizing" imho is to weaken us and homogenize the armed forces, yeah. But the weakness is just so we don't get into the way of π¨π³/π·πΊ expansion.
