It basically would turn us into a parliamentary system, which seem in practice to be safer.

It’s darkly ironic that China ended up achieving its goal of becoming the world’s top steel producer.

I think the best single fix you could do would be an amendment to allow a constructive vote of no confidence so a majority vote of the House can replace the President and VP.

I’m consistently amazed when people know which politicans are good speakers, since I find watching videos very aversive.

They admire and copy everything else Russia does, why wouldn’t they just start kidnapping random people too?

Every few months it was another country and more exceptional bravery. I feel completely sick at the thought that all I have to offer my own children right now is the moral clarity that what my country is doing is profoundly wrong.

I’m a fan of the Commonweal series by Graydon Saunders, which has gratuitous use of magical artillery.

I can see something needing to be done and that there are large improvements possible. DOGE does seem so indiscriminate to me that there’s little chance they are actually doing so. I just don’t see as easy a pathway to kicking out Trump and Musk as is currently envisioned.

Never in a million years could I have guessed what their comment was in reply to.

This is spot on and similar worries keep running through my head when I hear the current Bluesky consensus that Trump is blundering badly and alienating the whole government and armed forces. I would like it to be true, but that’s not the same as it actually reflecting reality.

I think those are upvotes instead of downvotes, but I think it’s a mix of the AI and non-AI effective altruists.

In fairness the actual effective altruists seem to be better on this — for example they’re working on a bridge fund to cover important projects that USAID was funding: forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/FTTPCt...

It’s incredibly telling that the front page of Less Wrong is completely devoid of any coverage of the past month of democratic backsliding while still having stuff like “How to Make Superbabies”.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the point where Shadowstats starts fudging the stats to make Trump look good.

Well, at least we can be sure that the current head of the NCAA would never be cowardly, incompetent, or motivated by political expediency.

I’ve never hoed for anything before, but I would hoe for a Dem landslide.

It blows my mind every time I remember that Tether is still around, trading at par, and with its executives not in jail.

The problem here is that Dems are not acting like human beings. They are not acting like they care about any of this, or are part of any of this. They act like space aliens constantly looking for a new strategy to convince everyone they're a real human person.

they're basically a bunch of "Malthusiasts"
they want to return to a time where life and livelihood is collected and doled out from a central location/power to "control" the population
where they think past failures to do so was lack of central organizational power, aka computing

If he flips attitudes on Musk, maybe Trump will even prosecute him for the crimes he’s busy committing right now.

I like Soros too, but it is a shame that the UK ended up not adopting the Euro. Hard to see how they would have had Brexit if they were already on the same currency.

Yeah, I was going to say that Vitalik seems to have reasonable political beliefs and to be trying to use his influence to turn crypto away from Trump.
