I'm so glad most of my feed has been people celebrating this; I've seen a few people reference the naysayers but haven't seen much of it myself
Also, I love how this is an opportunity for folks to get more involved who've maybe previously been on the sidelines

I want someone to pay me to write this book #manifesting

It's so goddamn infuriating even as it's predictable with this "Christian" Nationalist hate machine; Idaho is not a kind place to live these days, either

How dare you not include Enemy of the State, Mississippi Burning, The Firm...

We were just talking about this over here

You're roughly (at least?) three months ahead of us, as it's usually late May before we start seeing trillium and glacier lilies

Will Pep actually give him a chance to play? (Essentially the same question we ask of any young player City either brings in or brings up from the academy...)

Personally I’m in the camp of appreciating the thought behind the law…while also very aware that actually practicing an Idaho stop while on a bike tends not to help driver-cyclist relations, so I rarely use it.

This morning’s cortado + yesterday’s leftover coffee + today’s fresh pour over appreciate that I could clearly use something of that strength today

What about debating the merits of the Idaho* stop?
*Also a law I can confirm most Idaho cops refuse to acknowledge as real, despite it originating here…

Unfortunately. Take some personal responsibility = we don’t ever want to address all of the systemic ways our society promotes inequality and actively makes life worse for so many people.

Also, character limits! How interesting can a person be if it all fits inside the character limit...

Yes, this exactly. This is the framing most drivers—and urban planners, for that matter—don't want to think about and address.

I swear most of the people in these polls have a very different idea of who trans people are vs actually recognizing anyone trans in their life. It’s an unwillingness to recognize humanity because they refuse to look around themselves.

Clearly they grew up in the cell phone era

It’s definitely the best thing I’ve read so far this year.

I would probably watch a show titled Love Is Riding Bikes Going Nowhere, tbh

I don’t know how it is for you, but it’s gotten noticeably worse in the last 5-10 years or so around here.

Yeah, growing up in the Midwest I didn't think I liked skiing until I fell in love with xc. And the constant movement is definitely part of the appeal. Of course, better snow out here makes all skiing more fun, too.

Where you headed this weekend?

Backcountry Nordic, actually. I was skiing solo in the dark, so kept the avy risk factor down by sticking to low-angle terrain. Still an incredibly beautiful way to start the day and well worth the midnight alarm.

If you get that long ride, that'll help, too. (Put in a long-ish ski this morning and it's doing wonders for my ability to at least sort of handle the dumpsterfire world today.)

Such a great feed; I definitely jump over periodically for food ideas/inspiration.

Only two people I saw all morning and they were both so very Idaho.

Little bit later ran into another plow driver who, looking like a cross between the Marlboro Man and Santa, informed me he was about to come back my way “like a bat out of hell” so I should switch sides of the road behind him. Sure enough, he flew by going at least sixty a few minutes later.

There were no photos, it being roughly 3:30 am, but the second time I saw this particular plow driver he asked if I’d ever been towed on skis. “Only by my dog.” He explained he’d always wanted to tow someone on skis with the plow but it was illegal in town, so we gave it a try on this back road.

Hey now, both times I’ve had to turn around courtesy a stubborn moose have involved midnight alarms. You wouldn’t want to deprive me of that fun, would you?
comment in response to

This morning’s planned long backcountry ski ended up not even being four hours, but that shorter timetable still crammed in the fun: a moose, a fun towline adventure with a plow, a cougar, a fox. All in all, great way to start a day.

Of course it did. So sick of a legislature that doesn't care at all about what their constituents want. (Thanks for keeping us informed.)

At least they can focus on the Prem after this? (But yeah, this has been rough.)

Today's focus issues suggest I'm in the same boat. Solidaire!

That's always been where I've run into trouble. The hunger is still there, but the activity/expenditure isn't. And then because you aren't as active, you don't have the same stress release, but food can be a stress response...
Just better to always have high volume, probably.

Prof straight told me to disregard the FDA nutrition recommendations and listen to my body. Definitely changed the way I ate and trained the next few years, and for the better.
comment in response to

Love this. I remember when I took a nutrition course in college and was running ~100 miles a week and simply because of how much I was eating (~6k calories a day), it looked like I was eating way too much fat, sodium, etc.

But of course if it's scary to harrowing for those of us really comfortable on our bikes (& in traffic with unpredictable drivers), it's really not going to be safe for kids, etc. And I think that framing is important and often left out of the conversation.
comment in response to

This is such a great chart. For those of us who are in that 1% and comfortable riding in most conditions (even if we might not always enjoy those mixed traffic conditions, etc), it can be hard to think about just how unwelcoming those conditions are for most people.
comment in response to

Yeah, the pup and I will ski around town on mornings when we've got a few fresh inches and we can avoid the plows, including several times this week already. And the falls can certainly be softer than downhill, depending on conditions!

Yeah, the ski area closest to us is approaching 300" snowfall this winter and 100" at the base. It's been a great ski year, even if we mostly cross-country ski.
