"Yes, there’s danger in opening our gates to this statue. But there’s also danger in keeping it out… the danger of eroding the sanctity of the gift-giving process."

Toss the green beer and corned beef, remember that your ancestors were unwelcome immigrants and political radicals. Happy St. Patrick's Day. newrepublic.com/article/1475... via @newrepublic.com

re the previous repost: if they can disappear permanent residents they can disappear citizens

I know calling him "President Musk" feels like it'll cause a rift because of Trump's egomania, but everyone in Trump's orbit is still a sniveling sycophant and when The Night of Long Knives comes, Musk can be served up as a scapegoat for the damage caused by the conservative movement's policies.

republicans: fyi we are bombing france for being too gay and lead poisoning is now mandatory democrats: yeah? well prepare yourselves for several strongly worded haikus

Student line of the day: "I'm gonna curbstomp Ratatouille!"

Amazing that the same book has been used by priests and nuns to explain their moral imperative to die protecting socialists being hunted by CIA backed militias and also by dudes in McMansions who think the creator of the universe considers it a priority to beat neurodivergent 8 year olds

"I trust this guy. He’s not like the others. When the government tracks you, that’s tyranny. When a billionaire does it? That’s innovation."

I, much like Musk/DOGE, could save thousands of dollars in your household budget by turning off your furnace and selling the car you need to drive to work everyday. You're welcome.

May 16th baby!!!!!!!

The dumbest motherfuckers to ever run a government are using "ctrl-f" to ruin your kids' lives.

Some of my students participated in a walkout in protest of Trump's immigration policy today... Now I have to avoid Facebook, because some of the comments under the local news coverage make me want to make threats that a lawyer would call "Legally Actionable."

The main beneficiaries of the Department of Education are disabled kids (IDEA) and working-class and poor Americans (Title I, Pell Grants, work assistance), so of course Trump wants to do away with it.

I think it's wild that we canceled Michael Vick, but Ash Ketchum is out here not catching any heat whatsoever.

Educators: We have to steel ourselves against the urge to consume everything, everywhere, all at once. The next four years are going to be long and hard; some of us will not make it. Protect your heart. Protect your peace. Protect the children.

"oh ho, but just last year you said running people over with with a big steamroller was wrong!” I exclaim delightedly as my enemy fatally runs me over with a big steamroller. it seems I have won this battle of wits

Nothing will radicalized you against AI more than being a high school teacher in the last week of a grading period... 🔥Burn it all down🔥

Unsubscribing from NYT emails: "I can excuse the editorial transphobia and genocide apologia, but I draw the line at '15 Healthy Recipes for 2025'!"

Happy 84th birthday to Hayao Miyazaki :-]

Trump isn't into Tariffs because he thinks they accomplish some economic goal. He likes Tariffs because they're what his autocrat idols use to shake industry down for bribes. Everyone has to come and bend the knee to negotiate an Exemption in exchange for the boss getting a cut. That's all this is.

-He cruzado océanos de tiempo para encontrarte… Uno, dos, tres océanos jaja.

Not sure of the original source of this, but the depiction with the final domino set to crush the pusher is devastatingly accurate.

Another year, another "Haters Guide to the Williams Sonoma Catalog." It is truly my own, personal "Twas The Night Before Christmas." Thank you @drewmagary.bsky.social, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"Kraven the Hunter"?... Seems like some of y'all should be cravin' the Lord!

spent this afternoon reading some early US history (as one does) and was reminded of the important fact that these people were almost constantly drunk as hell

Constantly thinking of this Marilyn Frye quote From @taylorlorenz.bsky.social’s newsletter www.usermag.co/p/tiktok-is-...

In the movie Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest's taxi cab number from the beginning of the film is "69". It's important to me me that you all know that... Merry Christmas.

For me, the universe's perfect idiot, the adult version of running away to join the circus is running away to live in the Jinro soju brewery (distillery?)... They'd welcome a doughy white guy with only a fleeting grasp of how alcohol is made right?

A more useful way to look at it I think is “are all feudal lords bad?” They are bad in their role as unelected oligarchs who, by def, have far too much power. We shouldn’t debate whether they are personally good or bad, we need to abolish the inequality that breeds them and all illegitimate power

When my child complains, "But you only said I had to clean up my mess in the living room, not the kitchen!"

Just learned about the European Christmastime traditions of the "Lord of Misrule" and how in Scotland that person is called the "Abbot of Unreason", and I've never wanted to be anything more!

"...it isn’t merely about replacing a public system with private options. The ultimate goal is to move away from any shared responsibility for other people’s children." This past summer, @thenation.com excerpted the first chapter of my new book with @jenniferberkshire.bsky.social. Access it here:

Even with significant light pollution, it's still pretty impressive.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #2,258,560!

Reading this story in the same tone of voice as the guy administering the Voigt-Kampff test at the beginning of Blade Runner

I would simply kill three birds with one stone, but I'm built different.
