lol mention a bicycle some time and it's all "um, actually *I* have to transport five weeks of groceries and several large dogs when it's -30*c and there's five feet of snow on the ground"

of course I've been, it's not Mordor - I grew up in BC, it's a two day easy drive to regina. also that's not at all what I said, it's like you're arguing with yourself here. fine I guess, but I'm not sure why I'm involved with your reading comprehension struggles.

... why would towns not have snow in the winter. what are you even talking about lol
comment in response to

okay? it does not in fact get below 30*c very often in either of the two urban centers in Sask.

...what? I didn't call anything long

LOL I literally bike in Saanich when it snows and it's actually way harder here because of the higher temps 😆
comment in response to
post
well there's only two significant cities in saskatchewan and you can look up their avg temps for yourself - you'll find that neither get that cold very often.
and yea, people without cars don't just cease to exist when it snows good lord lol I love social media

like the two opposite ends of a very specific spectrum 🤔

I doubt anyone expects tesla to make any money, surely this is just buying influence.

the ableism charge is hard for me to take seriously. i've had cyclist friends and teammates who were disabled and couldn't drive. they also prefer not being run over!

well he was voted in twice, right? like we can't say he's an aberration at this point. they only have two parties - one made up of evil ghouls and one that seems broadly competent but can't seem to stop the ghouls. so maybe the whole thing is just broken.

i'm a bit skeptical that social cohesion is based primarily on some legal foundations rather than the resulting culture. and further skeptical that the cultures are actually that different on the ground

can I have another hint? what does 'per capita' mean?

I work in manufacturing in Canada and there are fewer jobs to be had, sure, but good ones. manufacturing creates actual wealth, every other kind of economic activity depends on it. also, as you point out - factories are highly automated, the highest levels of education are required.

ha at least half the reason I bought my moccamaster was the lovely green

"But the granting of usage right over public land to a sub group of the public is giving that group an implied ownership..." no it's not. that's not true.

my whole kingdom for a game like this I can play on my smart trainer.

I'm not suggesting we revoke citizenship for 'being an asshole'. I'm suggesting that revoking citizenship is not a particularly novel legal concept and the discussion can be had. I'd further add that the elon situation *is* novel, and I disagree that any such 'slippery slope' argument is valid.

yes... i know that. that was kind of the point of my post. we already have laws in this space, they can be changed.
comment in response to
post
well that's a different argument, but also 'say things we disagree with' has some daylight between it and 'support continued attacks against national sovereignty'. foreign actors with the power to make such credible threats are pretty few in number and easy to define.
comment in response to
post
can't read the article, but sure you can. you just change the law. lots of countries in the world already have revocation processes and we've certainly tinkered in this space here in Canada.

wait, what's embarrassing about asmr? I watch mechanical assembly asmr videos all the time... my favourite is one of an old moto guzzi motorbike engine being put together.

thomas here has the one and only correct take on this. absolutely the only result would be years of death and misery and a permanently broken world that will only ever view the US with horror.

jeez there sure are a lot of Palestinians in Israeli jails. what was this 'war' about again? 🤔
comment in response to

I guess this is what it took to reclaim the flag from the truck convoy dorks 🤔
comment in response to

it would take a hundred years of death and misery, so you probably want to lead with that

tbh i'd respect that a lot more than someone who does it wrapped in 4k lbs of steel to my squishy self on my 20 lb bicycle!

didn't Bush start a war that killed like half a million Iraqis tho. that seems kinda bad to me.

hmm, the lyrics specifically call out the tech disparity so I'm on team 'solidarity'. I've certainly always heard it that way without considering it too much.

haha. I've had this exact talk with a driver before:
"bloody pedestrians should wear reflective vests!"
... you're not wearing one?
"well I drove here!"
okay, but then you left your car to cross the street so...
