"What leverage do we have against Elon Musk?'' ask Democratic politicians taking money from Elon Musk's lobbyists.

Remember this moment. youtu.be/AE4wxt70aUM

I hope it goes without saying that this goes doubly for purged military officers

I dunno, I really thought a bunch of 20-year-old fash dipshits whose previous experience was trading Pepe the Frog memes were going to have a solid handle on how US government staffing and procurement worked.

Distracting myself from the many horrors by busily trying to keep my bean business afloat. The blend this week is profoundly good. ☕️

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

I will vote for the first candidate who tells me they're going to make the biggest government possible. Reacher-sized agencies. Braun Strowman-level social benefits. Government so big it starts belching out National Parks and free healthcare. Chungus State.

The bonus will be that all the Mars-goers die of space cancer www.shesabeast.co/mars-radiati...

I feel so haunted by the old “haha Brooks Brothers Riot” framing. Ultra-wealthy creeps who do not go to national parks, fly commercial, buy groceries, ride the subway, get normal healthcare, need FEMA, or send their kids to public school are looting all those goods, plus all our data.

"Beanless coffee" is a cutesy euphemism for artificial or synthetic coffee substitutes and I hope food and beverage journalists reject using it.

I didn’t think the Democrats were going to save us, per se, but I did not expect them to lie down on the floor and mildly complain about the smart heels of the fascists trodding upon them.

these bitches can't even get their shit together enough to make a fucking website. this is a pdf with links in it. what the fuck is wrong with you

Incoming LA Protest info: Wednesday February 19th Rally @ 5:30 PM Federal Building 300 N Los Angeles St Los Angeles “STOP MUSK SAVE OUR SERVICES DAY OF ACTION” **please share** #stopelonmusk #losangeles #protestLA #federalworkers

concepts of concepts of plans. if this is what our opposition leadership looks like, we're cooked.

Let the people decide

Hawkeye Pierce

the NYT deeply dishonors Sam in death. Long ago I began expecting them to spite us at every turn, but this is remarkable. I can’t help but draw a comparison to Shepard. The headline first published about his death by the NYT in 1998 named his identity because it was part of the story.

hey, are you doomscrolling? fuck yeah, refresh that shit, i bet there are new posts by now

The plane lays on its back, its belly freezing in the cold sun, trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, Elon, not without your help. But you’re not helping…. Why is that, Elon?

Since January 28, Warren has voted against every nominee, but unlike @schatz.bsky.social, she has not placed any blanket holds or consistently objected to unanimous consent. With a few minor hiccups, Senate has been business as usual.

The deeper tougher problem is that this was Bernie's entire career and 2016 campaign and the structural Democratic Party reacted to him like white blood cells attacking a foreign invader.

i also do not understand the democratic rhetorical thing of always asking questions. "we need more clarity on the faa firings" feels like weak sauce to me. "trump is gutting the faa so your plane crashes and your family dies" just make the accusation instead of trying to impress debate judges

A thing I wish I could teach people is that the vast majority of very rich people are deeply stupid. They did not get where they are because of ingenuity or talent. They got there because of compound interest on hereditary wealth and being tax cheats.

Rearranging cuck chairs on the titanic

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

Hugely important thread for SoCal with data that counters some of the misinformation that got boosted immediately after the fires

guess the Overton window is now just a hellmouth.

Q: How many Democrats does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A: Wait, that's not our job. Is it? What leverage do we have? Whoops, weekend's in a few days—adjourned

Mike Davis wrote The Monster at Our Door, a book on how we have created the ideal ecological conditions for a devastating avian flu pandemic. when Covid happened he wrote an update where he was like "this was practically a best-case scenario compared to H5N1." just something that fills me with dread

At the stonewall monument rn

You guys! I wrote a screenplay. It's called #DailyPublicBriefing

can't wait to see what scathing scheduled posts Chuck's got queued up for yet another 3 day weekend.

everyone right now

I've been able to brush off most of the erasure of trans people from government websites, but this one is REALLY getting under my skin. It's just complete revisionist history. How fucking dare they Old vs. new

every day I think about the comms strategy of the korean opposition party in the wake of the coup and I get so burningly resentful that other countries have legislators who are awake

I think it's both depressing and telling how many Americans (including many members of the elite media) view "masculinity" basically in terms of being an abuser and are excited and thrilled to sign up themselves and others for more abuse.

This period under Musk/Trump feels like early February in 2020—when a terrible thing was happening with breakneck speed, and the people paying close attention were hair-on-fire about it while the rest of the country carried on as normal.
