The people who believe that throwing trans people under the bus is a "winning" strategy are not only inhumane and wack but they are also deluded.

Transgenic mice NOT transgender mice. Per the #NIH, #transgenic mice are those that have had DNA from another source put into their DNA. #trans #mice #SOTU www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

If you aren't familiar with anti-psychiatry, might be a good time to become so. We've a lot of it lying ahead of us. If we don't navigate it with an awareness of what lies on the other side, we will soon have some rather big – as in even bigger – problems. A primer: newrepublic.com/article/1918...

"tree equity" is the kind of thing that columnists like to make fun of when why it works is actually instantly apparent to anyone who's ever walked down a street in the summer apnews.com/article/tree...

This is the honeymoon phase of dictatorship.

Unamerican.

Breaking: Hours after Elon Musk reassured Cabinet that efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak in Uganda had only been “accidentally canceled very briefly,” the Trump administration terminated at least four of the five contracts for Ebola-related work in that country. nyti.ms/4ikHi1Q

The #HPV vaccine has decreased high grade cervical dysplasia in the USA by 80 % in the youngest age group. Reported in today's MMWR. #MedSky + #ObGynSky. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes...

While NIH funded researchers have found a potential cure for one of the most deadly cancers around, Trump and Musk are continuing an illegal NIH grant freeze, threatening so many potential life saving scientific advances. www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

"I am not playing cards," said the leader of the free world to a Russian client state. My Gd in heaven, what have we become.

The U.S. has two tsunami warning centers, both operated by NOAA. Employees were terminated from these centers today. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center covers Hawaiʻi, and now it is less safe to be near the beach. www.tsunami.gov

Ofri Bibas Levy said, at the funeral of her sister-in-law, “There is no meaning to forgiveness before the failures are investigated, and all officials take responsibility...They could have saved you but preferred revenge." Hostage families are clear, too, what their government chose.

White South African man acts according to type, news at 11.

One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

The things I love about my country—our parks, our science, our dedication to our coastlines and skies—-it’s all crumbling as we watch. And it’s hard to find energy to fight through the grief of it.

I got my HPV series at 37, out of spite for the Alabama school system that said it was for sluts.

Every House Republican just voted to defund Medicaid. Reminder: there are no moderate Republicans in Congress, and stop pretending there are.

OUR FIGHTS FOR BODILY AUTONOMY ARE INTERTWINED Sepsis in the 2nd trimester is up 50% in TX is intertwined w/trans healthcare access being cut off & passports seized is intertwined with rollbacks putting more lead in drinking water is intertwined with stripping disability rights #SOLIDARITY

Someone in the comments shared this site if you want a quick way to thank the Philadelphia school district

Colorado's Rep Brittany Pettersen (D) flew cross-country with her one-month-old to vote against the GOP budget tonight. Dems ended up one vote short. Pettersen was part of an unsuccessful bipartisan push to allow new mothers to vote remotely. #copolitics

At long last, I’m thrilled to announce that my new book, WITHOUT CONSENT: A Landmark Case and the Decades-Long Struggle To Make Spousal Rape a Crime, will be published on November 11, 2025 and is available for pre-order wherever books are sold! www.sarahweinman.com/book/without...

I know the people making these laws don't care, but for the rest of us: more evidence that #abortionbans harm pregnant people (including lots of people who never thought they would need abortions!). Infections, including sepsis, are still a leading cause of death in pregnancy.

This is an incredible loss. PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) has been essential for understanding care access and outcomes in the perinatal and postpartum periods. For example, intimate partner violence before or after childbirth www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/38733...

I almost started responding to someone and instead I just blocked them and drank water.

This is even better than when JAMA repealed its restrictions on causal language in observational studies.

Medicaid coverage for virtual visits ends April 1st. As someone who cares for children that live up to 8 hours away, this is DEVASTATING. Children, adults, elderly will all suffer. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES The 5 calls app makes it easy!

I will daven this shabbat that Shiri is alive, but I imagine that if she is, she would rather not be. What a week, friends.

This is very important and concerning. The NIH funding freeze is *still in place*. NIH can't issue new awards if proposals aren't approved by Council. OMB is using a technical work around to prevent these meetings from happening. NIH can't post meetings, so they can't actually have them.

One of the first targets here will almost certainly be blocking the mailing of abortion medications like mifepristone. If I'm right, it'll be a the biggest blow to reproductive freedom since the repeal of Roe.

I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to do with this information

all support to our beleaguered northern brethren and their Freedom Coffee

I had two grant proposals up for review in the NIH Bacterial Virulence (BV) study section. It was canceled without notice this morning. Without those grants, my lab must close within a year. And so the purge of scientific research in the US continues 🤬 #MicroSky 🦠🧫🧪🧬🔬

That’s how you write a headline, people.

Update

Oh.

sometimes you pray and pray for something and you don't get it. so much love to their father this week. BDE.

1/ I am seeing a lot of comments on the slashing of NIH support along the lines of “universities should just spend their huge endowments.” I’m the last person to cheer on the institutional stratification rising endowments have contributed to. But let me explain why this is not a solution.

This is a step towards closing the parks and building condos on them, mark my words. This is a legacy for our grandchildren. Please don’t let it be destroyed.

Park rangers are some of the best people you’ll ever meet.

Here is my Federal Employment Termination story:

Facts. Gone due to vaccines. We are now 2+ generations of children largely spared the dread of meningitis due to Haemophilus influenzae type B; Streptococcus pneumoniae; and (increasingly) Neisseria meningitidis. These are dreaded conditions that stalked the nightmares of parents.

RFK's order to "assess the evidence" of mental health medications is exactly the same sort of credibility-washing bullshit that the UK did with the Cass Review. The findings will be cooked to agree with the freak anti-vaxxer, so they can do "In light of the Cass Review ..." against psych meds.

Doge is auditing NASA today. This is absurd. The owner of Space X should not be auditing NASA. It’s a massive conflict of interest.
