Way to show your Ageism. Maybe consider advocating for term limits or something that actually fixes the problem of power being concentrated in the same people for decades. Instead of de facto slamming old people.

I agree they should’ve made way for younger ppl years ago, but that’s their egos/selfishness (pretty common traits in politicians afaik), NOT their age (as Bernie proves). I’d rather advocate for Congressional term limits than fuel intergenerational discord & ageism by claiming “spitefulness”, etc

Yeah, but unfortunately some of this is inevitable as any service gains wider adoption. Same thing happened with Facebook, YouTube, etc.

I would like to see younger leadership as well, but this shouldn’t be about age (Bernie is older than Connelly). It should be about competence and their ability to be present & do the job. And I find him having a cancer w/ a low survival rate disqualifying on the latter front.

Can’t believe it’s almost Christmas, but this puts one in the mood! 🎄🐿

Had to read this a few times before I got it. But holy sh*t. I feel like so much of what I learned in school about US foreign policy was just wrong or at best only a very selective slice of the truth.

Even assuming the denied autism care (ABA therapy) is ineffective or harmful, UHC should just say that, not hide behind “mourning” to avoid explaining their policy decisions.

I understand why the Gulf, Turkey, Russia, Egypt don’t want a democracy in the Arab World. But why don’t Israel or the US? Because it might destabilize other Arab countries which puts oil supplies to Israel/US at risk? And/or something else? Thanks for helping to educate me on this!

So cool! Now I know what a needleminder is. Thanks so much for that & for sharing your lovely embroidery, it’s inspiring! 😊🧵🪡

Is that a magnetized needle holder in the upper left? So clever, if so!

They should first trial this on BCBS Execs and their families. If it works out for them, then maybe it makes sense to roll it out to the rest of us, don’t you think?

My guess is it has more to do w Trump not wanting to feel like he’s ever losing control. People w NPD hate feeling like they’re not in control.

THIS. Only criticizing those you know won’t respond viciously against you is rewarding the worst of humanity. Cowardice in action.

To be clear, a self-contained group can have standards w/i a larger society that doesn’t — it depends on who leads that group (see Navalny’s team in Putin’s Russia). But if the ppl in power disrespect standards, their way becomes the trickle down de facto “standard” for the group they control.
comment in response to post
You can’t get people who are only in it for themselves to care about standards. They’ll trot out standards when it suits them & trample them when it doesn’t. The only way to enforce standards is to 1st remove people like that from relevant positions of power. Pretending otherwise is a fantasy.

When people see the cost of upholding them is up to a lifetime of harassment, including imprisonment on fake QAnon-type “evidence”, the lesson won’t be to respect standards, but to ignore them. That’s the example they’d have made of Hunter. It’s just what authoritarians do.

If this reporting is true, Trudeau knows 0 abt how to deal w/ a Narcissist. Saying their actions will hurt you only emboldens them w/ the power they have over you. You manipulate them thru flattery, not by appealing to a compassionate side they never had. Putin knows this. When will the rest learn?

Biggest obstacles by far to defending principles in the USA is Trump & all his sycophants. Get them out of power & then let’s talk about defending principles. Until then, it’s all just wasted breath

I don’t want any presidential pardons where there’s even a whiff of a conflict of interest. But lots of things are luxuries for a time when the DOJ, FBI & CIA won’t be completely, utterly weaponized for revenge. Clinging to those luxuries does nothing to bring those times back

You want to leave the door open to vindictiveness-driven injustices by Trump to save a precedent Trump long ago promised to sh*t all over? What you care about doesn’t matter in this new reality & demanding that it does changes nothing. It actually validates the injustices that will inevitably come

Please stop assuming mental health struggles are uncommon or so far outside the norm as to be “outliers” — it’s not true & only adds to the stigma that keeps people from getting help. AOC was able to support joy w/o throwing shade on people who are struggling & I like her example.

You mean well, but your language (“gain perspective, regular healthy people, outliers”) betrays some ignorance. Abe Lincoln suffered from clinical depression, do we think he was unable to “gain perspective”? What about Simone Biles’ mental health struggles?

I think SoCal folks know about the “rivalry”, they just don’t care, which is the right response imho 🤷

The ACA was saved by only 1 vote (John McCain’s). On policy, he was the ACA; he only saved it to try to save civility in the Senate. Is McCain around now to do the same thing?
