I was at the game. Can confirm: the absolute shit.

Pretty sure it’ll be Pritzker or Shapiro running next time around, assuming we’ll even have elections by then, so we’ll probably find out. Here’s hoping it’s not an issue, but I’ve been disappointed by my country before.

Hot take: If Biden had announced he was a 1-term president two years ago Pritzker would be president now.

We tried using a private Discord channel as well, but it was kind of awkward. We used Whatsapp back in the day but similarly it didn’t stick. We moved to a regular group text but I was missing half the texts because of Apple and Android not playing nice. Slack’s kind of a one-of-one for this imo.

I recommend Slack, though I don’t use it for work so it’s probably easier for me to maintain a firewall between work and home. The ability to have separate channels for different conversations is great (e.g. a channel dedicated to my 2 friends that like to bake so they can post bread pics).

Now you’ll never spearhead innovation synergy or leverage your strategic partnerships. What were you thinking.

I would not be entirely shocked if he passed him this year tbh. He just needs to be a league avg or better bat for the D to rack up the WAR.
comment in response to post
Against my better judgement I’m excited about him. Corey Patterson, Felix Pie, Junior Lake, Brett Jackson…I’ve been burned too many times man. But this one will be different!

Yeah man, they announced it last week. Went back to the pre-2024 unis across the board. Says something about 2025 that that’s like a top-3 positive occurrence for the year as a whole.

I’ve never been much of a Bond fan, even the “good” ones leave me pretty cold. That said, it was the last franchise that still felt like an event when one came out. RIP.

I miss Javy being cool as hell. He’s still my kid’s favorite.

You and your writers are affecting people’s lives in a real and positive way. And in 2025, that’s no small thing.

It takes a village, even for a little thing like developing a sense for good writing, and like it or not y’all are part of my son’s village now.

I’m terminally online so paper doesn’t always play for me, but my 11yo LITTLE LEAGUE ALL STAR (not that I’m bragging) is never without a book in his hands. I want him to experience the joy and wonder of beautifully snarky baseball writing.

Good to know! 👍🏻

I think those are pretty close to the section I was sitting in for the ‘89 Mitch Williams pickoff game.

I got 8 words into your post and thought random weirdos were eating your grass.

I, too, have fallen in the Raspberry Pi vortex. I will say if you can't come up with anything better for it, installing Pi-Hole and blocking every ad on the internet at the router level is pretty sweet.

Man, this is dangerous. I really didn't need another expensive hobby. Thanks again for all the information!

And why no Cubs C?? YOU CLEARLY HATE MY TEAM /s

Where do you buy your fancy caps? I love the team logos.

On it. Who knows what it'll cost in a few weeks...

Man, it's a whole new world since the last time I keyboard shopped 10+ years ago. Thanks for all the info!
comment in response to post
That's the holdup for me. I don't really game anymore, and when I do it's on consoles. I want a good keyboard because I'm coding all day long, and I'm a "punch the keyboard" typist so I need the harder springs. Plus, I use the 10-key enough for input that being without it would suck.

My current board has MX Blues, and I have no complaints. I like the clicky-keys, but also I mostly work from home and the dog doesn’t seem to mind. Do you connect to multiple boxes? Can you recommend a KVM, or do you have multiple stations?

Thank you! I appreciate it! I'll take a look right now.

I have a freakish hat size, and the only place I can find that carries it is m.hatland.com. Maybe they have something for your wife there.

They do a lot of embedded systems work. A few years ago they were the OS for every car Ford made.

I read through the thread again and see you meant replacement has been set too low, sorry about the dumb question.
comment in response to post
I must have missed this, do you have a link where he wrote about it? When you say “too low” do you mean the distribution should favor the “right tail” of the bell curve more than it does, or that there should be a bigger pool of WAR to distribute?

Got it. For the record I pronounce “Mary” and “marry” the same (the way you pronounce Mary) but “merry” distinctly different. Grew up in Chicago and spent the last 28 years in CA, not sure which one made that happen.
comment in response to post
Wait are you saying “Mary” like “mare-ee” and “marry” like “mar-ree”

I’m not sure what’s supposed to be wrong here. I showed it to my son, Trotsky, and he didn’t know either.

I’m embarrassed a lot by my country these days, but the first time I saw that picture I swear I heard a bald eagle scream over a Van Halen riff.

My brother is an engineer for JPL. His house is thus far still out of the evac zone, but we’ll see if he still has a JPL to go back to in a week.

Hope this helps some other poor soul that has one of their shitty fridges: they have a hidden “super defrost” setting so you don’t need to use a hair dryer or whatever. Here’s a video on how it works for my model of fridge: m.youtube.com/watch?v=xUh9...

Not a huge animation fan, but I recall the Siamese cats in Lady & The Tramp needing their asses kicked.

I got my brothers RG35XX’s for birthdays last year, and they do fine for 16-bit and earlier, but start to sweat on PlayStation-era stuff. Never could get Saturn to run on it, which is sadly what we’d really want from that era.
