Fun Fact: Did you know there are over 40 new GO Transit Stations proposed across the network? Once completed, the General Toronto & Hamilton Area will have over 110 GO Stations, and potentially up to 11 regional rail lines.

Fun Fact: Ever heard of the GO Trebuchet? GO Trebuchet was proposed on the 1st of April, 1400AD by the Government of Ontario to provide safe and fast rapid transit service across the General Toronto Area using Ontario-designed people-launching trebuchet's. This line was never built.

Yesterday morning a new piece of track on the Lakeshore West was put into service. This new track allows all trains to or from Niagara Falls to stop at West Harbour GO Station, increasing service in Hamilton and reducing rush hour travel times by up to 10 minutes per direction.

Did you know? The platforms at Union Station Toronto are set to undergo a major transformation as part of the GO Expansion project. Going off multiple public sources, platforms could be extended by up to 200 meters in either direction, allowing multiple trains to board at once.

Now that this project is approximately 50% complete, I thought it would be a good idea to make a directory showing how all 14 maps of Union Station are supposed to stack together, and which ones I’ve completed so far:

The sixth map in my series of Toronto Union Station maps is finished! This layer includes the TTC Union Subway Platform level, and the proposed expanded Streetcar/LRT Station:

The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario has committed to building the GO 2.0 project, which involves new lines, expansions, & improvements to the GO Transit network. GO 2.0 also includes Lakeview GO Station on the Lakeshore West Line, serving the Lakeview development.

The Ontario Liberal Party has announced their transportation plan, with multiple slated improvements to GO Transit. This plan includes an extension of the Kitchener Line or a new line to the City of Cambridge, providing service between the Cities of Guelph and Cambridge.

The Ontario Liberal Party has announced continued expansion & improvement to the GO Transit Network in their transportation plan. This plan includes the extension of the Kitchener Line west to the City of London, with reestablished stations in Stratford & St Marys.

The Ontario Liberal Party has announced continued expansion & improvement to the GO Transit Network in their transportation plan. This plan includes an extension of the Lakeshore West Line from the City of Burlington to the City of Brantford, providing rail service to Toronto.

The Ontario New Democratic Party has announced continued expansion & improvement to the GO Transit Network in their transportation plan. This plan includes an extension of the Kitchener Line or a new line to the City of Cambridge, providing service between the Cities of Guelph and Cambridge.

A Slight Correction: This project is NOT apart of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontarios 'GO 2.0 Project' Election Commitment, it is a separate project being proposed by a different political party. That was a mistake on my end and has been fixed!

The Ontario New Democratic Party has announced continued expansion & improvement to the GO Transit Network in their transportation plan. This plan includes the extension of the Kitchener Line west to the City of London, with reestablished stations in Stratford & St Marys.

The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario has committed their support to building the GO 2.0 project, which involves new lines, expansions, & improvements to the GO Transit network. GO 2.0 also includes rerouting the Richmond Hill Line out of the Don Valley onto a corridor with 3 new stations.

Fun Fact: Did you know in 1985 there was a proposed extension of the GO Transit Lakeshore West Line through Downtown Hamilton? This extension would have formed a loop, allowing all trains to run in a single direction, serving both stations in Downtown Hamilton. This extension never happened.

Party Leader Marit Stiles has also announced the commitment from the Ontario NDP Party to fund and construct Grimsby GO Station, as well as a new portion of a second track between Nelles Rd and Fifteenth St, establishing a minimum of 2 tracks between Toronto Union and Niagara.

Today the Government of Ontario announced their commitment to build Grimsby GO Station. This station will be located on the Lakeshore West Line between Confederation and Beamsville GO Station, connecting the town of Grimsby to multiple GO Transit trains per day.

Today the fate of Pickering International Airport has officially been sealed, and will never be built. Did you know there has been dozens of proposals in the past to bring GO Transit rail service to the proposed Airport? These are the 4 most interesting proposals that never happened:

The GO ALRT Hurontario Line was proposed in 1982 by the Government of Ontario as part of a larger transit project in the GTHA. This line would have connected Port Credit, Mississauga City Centre, and Downtown Brampton to the GO Transit Georgetown and Lakeshore West Lines.

The GO Urban Hurontario Line was proposed in 1972 by the Government of Ontario as part of a larger maglev network across Ontario and Canada. This line would have had frequent stations at major intersections and points of interest, connecting with other GO Urban Mississauga Lines.

Yesterday an extension of the Hazel McCallion LRT Line to Downtown Brampton was announced! But did you know there were two previous plans to link Mississauga and Brampton together over 50 years ago?

The fifth map of my series of Union Station Toronto maps is done! This layer includes the Union Station Retail Level, Food Court, Union Market, Subway Concourse, and PATH areas immediately north of the station:

The fourth map of my series of Union Station Toronto maps is done! This layer includes the CIBC Square South & future North Tower, CIBC Square Elevated Park, and Table Food Hall:

Fun Fact: Ever heard of the proposed GO Transit Woodbine-Pearson Line? This line was proposed by the Government of Ontario in 2014 as a way to enhance transit connectivity between the proposed Toronto-London High Speed Rail Line and Pearson Airport. This line was never built.

I haven’t been genuinely blown away by a transit line before riding Ottawas Line 2 today. It’s frequent and modern, and requires little infrastructure versus current GO rail, this is the exact model we should use in the GTHA for non-mainline GO services.

Talking VIA Rail out east for the first time in a few years. Easiest boarding I’ve had at with VIA so far, walk on with no lineup, no crowd, and no bags weighed. Obviously this was an exception not the norm, but it’s a good glimpse into what boarding could be like in the future!

As we approach the upcoming provincial election, I will be covering any campaign promises related to potential upgrades to the GO Transit network from all candidates. I will remain neutral and not share personal political opinions because that’s not what this account is about!

Today; January 1st, 2025: OnXpress Transportation Partners, the company selected to deliver GO Expansion, was supposed to take over operations and maintenance of the GO Transit Rail Network from Alstom Transport Canada. This has been delayed 10 months to October 4th, 2025.
