Explaining, once again, to the children (12.5, 10, 4) that when I was young there were only 4 TV channels and they were all linear rather than streaming.
Trying to emphasise what that meant for national popular culture.
To demonstrate this we are now watching the Mr Blobby music video on YouTube.

Now, remote with 30 buttons, complicated set up, cables, services. You pay for programming, and for anything worth watching, pay again for subscription, and even pay more for premium. Then hope it works.

(I was not a big fan of the westerns either - The Virginian (which got renamed and even worse for the last series IIRC))
More is less, as the saying goes.
One of those was ITV which we weren’t allowed to watch because it had adverts and was “common”.
Of the other two we were allowed to watch “one thick programme a day” (ie not some dull documentary in BBC2).
Also that The Krypton Factor and This Is Your Life were very popular in our house because Mum liked Crossroads and Coronation Street and wouldn’t let anyone change the channel in between, so whatever was on in the middle, that’s what was watched!
Also, show them ceefax
