I’m one of those folks in STEM areas & have been thinking about leaving US. Some of my ex colleagues have been thinking the same. We are all huddling trying to figure out where we can go that will appreciate our contributions. We didn’t vote for Trump on both of his terms.
I've no pity for any of them. Nor the Georgia farmers that are kicking and screaming. I'm done with fools. And Brooke Rollins, who's basically promising them bail louts. No bailouts for MAGA.
My point is if it works for them they forget their cruel harangues…. But, it sure makes one wonder who Bessant is to support people who loathe him, all for a small tax cut.
Couldn’t agree more. The only saving grace for these people is that (maybe) they are capable of learning from this. Big question mark. I wouldn’t forget their choice and forgiveness is a long way off and requires years of action to reverse the damage they helped cause.
They outright said why they voted Trump. They hated the left more than the right because they didn't like caring about minorities. The educated conservatives are simply the ones with the intellectual tools to come up with a phoney reason why Trump's attacks on DEI aren't racist.
Those are people who are used to a 14.5 minute commute, with a 3.5 minute stop at Starbucks drive-thru for a grande mochiatto, and a clock-in at 0900 on the dot.
They crave stability, normalcy and predictability above ALL ELSE.
They oppose DEI because it restricts their convenience.
It's not so much, "How dare you hold me accountable for my behavior!?", but more "Constantly thinking about pronouns is too much for me to worry about."
No. The whole DEI issue is a gimmick to create chaos and to get rid of top leadership. Vance was a DEI hire. DEI hires were not all women, LGBT, etc or POC.
I hold the most contempt for people who after being against him came around to Trump in full possession of all facts. I hope they specifically die unloved, alone, and in penury.
I have a lot of people saying that everyone who voted for Trump is intentionally evil and that doesn't seem to square with a lot of immigrant types who just wanted lower prices and such.
lotta folks operate purely on last-rung-avoidance: sure, MAGA hates their family, but they hate *other minority families* even more = social standing enhanced!
They wanted to hurt people. There is no positive reasoning behind the why, no "rising tide lifts all boats" philosophy. It was silencing people; not tolerating or debating views they disagree with but had minimal affect on them, but crushing the people they saw as "other."
This is exactly it. They weren’t tricked & they were no more motivated by egg prices this time than they were about “economic uncertainty” in 2016. They wanted to elect a guy who would hurt the people that they, specifically don’t like.
Ofc it does. They knew what he said and did it anyway bc they thought they were immune. That’s the definition of intent. Populist are always fascists. Always. Because they prey on the population abs say exactly what they’ll do, then do it to everyone, but they still were elected.
Well this person voted for him because he didn’t want to share power with dark skinned people. Seems evil to me, I hope his project specifically is defunded
The central campaign push to the normies was absolutely "Kamala means war and higher prices, if you vote for her you like war and higher prices" over and over and over with a side of "trans people ew"
This isn't an excuse, but a lot of people did a lot of lying and a lot of people believed them.
I believe in forgiving those who voted for Trump. Some are evil, some are ignorant, some are both. But you got to first admit you blew it and failed in performing your civic duties.
It's difficult for people to apprehend the limited amount of information most people are relying on to vote. They don't even Ask Siri what the positions are.
I guess those low info types, unengaged, disinterested, too busy to get informed voters are getting dealt an object lesson in what and how government works, how it can affect their lives, and why they might want to take more of an interest in it in the future. Freedom ain't free.
Voting on who runs the most powerful nation in history without bothering to look up the positions is like blindly firing a gun. Ignorance isn't an excuse.
It's not intentionally evil like southerners who did nothing about lynchings weren't intentionally evil.... Like Germans who lived near death camps and did nothing were not intentionally evil.
Most decent people simply don't have it in them to challenge their neighbors. Until it's safe.
You must understand the majority of news sources, tv,and newspapers are owned and controlled by MAGA billionaires. It is complicated and very time consuming to access accurate information. Every US GOP lawmaker lies big time to their constituents. It is mind boggling, treasonous, very sad.
Great This American Life segment where they followed around a guy in PA originally from Puerto Rico right after the Madison Square rally smoothing it over and encouraging ppl to vote for Trump for economic reasons. The people he talked to clearly had no info about Project 2025 etc.
This was a great example of people voting for egg prices being lower and ignoring the racism and decimation of the rule of law that might benefit this specific community. The one person not persuaded was someone who recognized the danger to their community.
Intentionally evil? No. Negligently evil? There's an argument to be made. At what point is "Whoops! I didn't know!" no longer sufficient? How much damage can be brushed aside? How many lives ended? The people who voted Trump into office have oceans of blood on their hands.
Buried lede is they STILL believe "wokeness" is a thing, as a result they would STILL probably vote for this administration knowing what they know now.
If you’re still whining about DEI and “woke”, you’re not ashamed of what you did. You’re sad because you got hurt when you only explicitly wanted others to.
They didn’t want consequences for their bigotry and impotent rage about being asked to compete in an environment that actually supports meritocracy (just not in the way they want)
They saw themselves as victims before. They seen themselves as victims now. They’ve learned nothing and deserve to rot.
They still don’t want women scientists. They’d prefer unqualified white guys over anyone else. That’s what they thought would happen. Instead, their research is being shuttered and may be picked up by a European country who won’t want their lame asses. I love this for them.
The "highly educated professionals that went to big important schools who voted for Trump" that i have the misfortune to be in contact with on an almost daily basis regret nothing.
They make excuses and will do so right up to the point that they are against the wall waiting for the bullet
This guy is a remorseful moron! Just what the fuck did he think he was going to get by voting for a bigoted, white, fascist pig? Cry me a fucking river dude! Your head is probably on the chopping block. Fuck around and find out!
I am ashamed for him. But his apology is unacceptable: no matter how conservative you are: if he cannot see why Trump was wholly, totally, categorically unfit for ANY job let alone the presidency then he really needs to do some deep soul searching and find the base of his deep festering bigotry.
They refused to listen to his message in totality: letting RFK hr “go wild” on the cdc/fda was a gigantic clue they all missed. And don’t get me started on his MSG Nazi gathering, Tariff talks or his slipping mental state all evident before the election. And P2025 was no secret
It was because of the seminar where they were told about implicit biases, it was outrageous to be subjected to that!
At least they had the sweet moment from Jan 20-23rd where the libs were owned and wokeness ended, before they realized their life work was going to be flushed down the toilet.
Wall Street is packed with morons. They learn about finance and read the business tea leaves and think they know what's up. You're right, it was all there. I'm only surprised the investor class is figuring it out this soon.
On the one hand, I want to say that they were naive, that they've had a bias towards the Republicans as the "party of big business" since time immemorial
What they probably thought was that they would get their tax break, and that that would outweigh the slim likelihood of tariffs being applied
I don't know why I'm so much less sympathetic to this instance of "the leopards would never eat *my* face" than other ones
Maybe it's because I have colleagues exactly like this--who would probably never vote for Trump but who have whinged incessantly about wokeness for the past ten years
What will be interesting to see is whether the outrage these colleagues feel about what is being done to STEM will lead to actual solidarity with their "woke" colleagues in the humanities, or whether it will intimidate them sufficiently that they throw us under the bus, in an excess of compliance
I know people like this. "I'm mildly annoyed at this policy, so I'm going to risk pushing the whole world over the edge to fix it". I understand people who abstained voting blue over the genocide, but over "lefty overreach"? Get fucked.
It's also beyond laughable that these imbeciles continue to paint politicians like Biden, Harris and even Trudeau as "lefties." Are these people seriously educated? Or did they buy their degrees?
Otherwise clever people can be so thick sometimes. And this is one of those times. And all because they were slightly annoyed about some imagined “wokeness”. Good grief.
i have zero sympathy for them too, but there’s a good chance they actually mean “annoying seminars with tedious language.”
that’s why right-wingers adopted “DEI” as a dogwhistle in the first place: for many, “DEI” is when your boss makes you watch a video and Robin DiAngelo gives you the business.
that's worse than actually being racists. their minor fucking inconvenience of not being able to say that something was the r-word is even less of a fucking reason!!!
I encourage everyone to follow this Reddit sub "Leopards Ate My Face'. The members do a great job of highlighting the regrets of the assholes who voted for Trump. (If you haven't signed up for Reddit, I would highly encourage it)
Thinking about the consequences of your actions only once they harm you directly is the mark of a selfish asshole.
But actively voting to destroy other people's lives indescriminately right up until you happen to get caught in the crossfire just makes you a vile cunt.
I reserve my deepest sympathies for those who fought against this and didn't choose it.
They are the victims.
Not the mad wankers who had zero excuse this time around not to know exactly who and what Trump is, and the miserable awfulness he'd inflict - as he promised - upon millions of people.
“smart” seems less and less useful as a driver to me. Had lunch with biochemist friend who expressed the urban financial legend of a raise losing you money due to the new tax bracket. How can you make it to full professor in biochemistry and not understand marginal tax rates? How? How the fuck?
The Trump era is rubbing my face in this more and more. People who are obviously smart in terms of some capacity to do math and think critically, they CAN do it, who just don’t turn that shit on outside of work. They seem to be everywhere now.
Scientists are going well out of their way to show "Shut the fuck up and do your research" is the most logical response to them having any opinions that aren't science related. At least the ones that make the news and talk to the press, awful lot of dumb smart guys out there.
They work at a University and have concerns about Wokeness... look around at your surroundings. I got 100 dollars these guys supported the Iraq war. No self reflection.
My answer to all of these people is "fuck off". A vote for Trump was a vote for racism and hate. If you say you didn't know, then I say you are a racist who is also a liar.
I’m so tired of people pretending woke means something bad, we should be proud to be enlightened and aware. These people being asleep is the problem, this entire post is about someone waking tf up
I know a few PhDs like this who are not in universities but whose companies are still going to get wrecked by the downstream consequences of destroying the government, and I almost wish I hadn’t blocked them so I could taunt them when the leopards come for their faces
Maga voters didn't believe he'd do what he promised to do. These policies were not hidden, so shouldn't be surprising. Tough luck - bought the ticket, enjoy the ride.
Kinda. The guys I know have said differently. They believe the talk of tariffs was a negotiation thing, that the chamber of commerce would convince him to stop deportations, and that republicans (especially when he nominated little Marco) would protect Ukraine.
The old Republican party that they haven't stopped mourning since George Herbert Walker Bush lost his reelection in 1992.
I don't make the rules guys, I only tell you what I saw (and repeatedly told them "you are not dumb enough to believe this, nor a grifter to like it")
The stupid fucking assholes who voted for Trump and knew better had to know what a complete mentally ill idiot he was and how Project 2025 would dominate everything. Rubes. Fuck them all.
My inorganic chemistry professor was a hardcore conservative who absolutely believed that climate change wasn't real even though he understood all the mechanics behind it.
I thought I understood religious brainwashing before that, but that utterly blew my mind.
Oh looky looky, someone didn't play Bioshock, now did they? Regulations might be a ball ache, but they're usually in place because they protect people. You know? Ethics? That shit.
Also, you're a scientist. You should not be using the term 'woke', you're above that. Do better.
Except it's not even a dilemma is it? This guy enthusiastically smashed the "end science" button and is only sweating now the consequences are becoming clear and he's lost his job.
I am also a conservative college professor. I say "leopards, see those faces?" I cannot believe any sane, rational person could vote for the guy with the horrible combover. Idiots and traitors. Who would vote for a rapist for President, but a coward or a fool?
Yes, their livelihood and the future of their country has been absolutely annihilated... but at least they won't have to use they/them anymore, right? 🙃
Puleeze. I’m a middle aged Canadian woman with little formal education beyond high school and I fucking knew this is exactly what was going to happen under another trump admin. Trump literally said it every fucking day.
He can take his pathetic excuses and get fucked.
“We were so mad that the university wanted to give everybody a fair shake that we voted for Trump to burn the whole thing down instead. If we don’t get our way, then nobody will.” Great.😞This whole thing really has been one monumental primal scream about electing the first black president.
Maybe 25 years of focus on STEM at the expense of Philosophy, Arts, History & Political Science etc has led to a population ignorant enough to vote for Trump.
I don't know man...some of "average Americans" are smart enough to recognise a conman when we see one (or two or fifty)...and also have the minimal social and reading comprehension skills required to spot bogus rhetoric when we hear it.
We are super smart scientist guys but our super special grievances were too strong so we voted against our self interest but that doesn’t make us not smart in our minds somehow
"Sure, he literally promised to destroy everything we care about and have worked so hard for, but omigod, have you SEEN those lefties with all their DEI? Diversity this. Equity that. And don't get me started on inclusion. They're, like, sooooooooo annoying! All I wanted was to own them!"
You just know “extreme wokeness” means having a token sentence about attempting to reach underserved populations. And their little fee fees couldn’t handle it.
I love the tone of 'Average Americans simply do not realize....' Bitch, you're the one who voted for this. Average Americans are trying to figure out where they'll get a job, how to buy food and get healthcare. They're not interested in bailing your sorry ass out of what you don't like.
university seminars *can* go about trying to impart social consciousness in really fucking annoying ways. that was the biggest problem in these people’s lives lmao
It is completely ridiculous, but one factor is, that these... "people" like OP probably really feel like they are experiencing wokeness overreach:
They are in an academic setting, so closer to the social science academic discourse than most citizens...
A charitable reading would be, they might just not like that other people are telling them in their space (!!!) how to behave and communicate.
Their opposition would thus be based on principles mostly.
I mean, I've seen my fair share of academic discourse.
Personally I do not necessarily subscribe to the policy that to change/improve society and culture you need to get/force people to speak more inclusive and that's why "Latinx" is the right term to use...
Like at that point I am assuming some people just love to go full nazi and the "Latinx" term that was popular on Twitter for all of five minutes is just a handy excuse.
"They used bad words and they left me no choice to go full nazi."
At least they mentioned it was merely "annoying" instead of going with "we wanted to protect against the very real woke mind virus about to end civilization"
I hope there are multiple books written about the usage/tactical deployment of the word woke by the fash/fash adjacent and how the libs now also use it and why. imo it's been really really important in wider scale normalising of everything cruel, punitive and dehumanising that's happening ATM.
I don’t. Then again, I’m a woman who studied art. Dudes have been trying to erase us and our contributions for centuries. Spaces for higher learning are the fortresses built to keep women and minorities out.
Yeah, it's a shame we went from forgiving student loan debt under Joe Biden to Donald Trump canceling college grants. We could have kept college enrollments and institutional funding going, but that's not what these people care about, they just care about their culture wars.
"I am so annoyed by the mannerisms of the 20 year olds I reluctantly lecture that I voted for the brown ones to get snatched from their beds by the secret police."
See, this is what happens when you* think that 'those other people' are not merit hires (like you) and not smart (as you). But who was right and who was wrong?
*the STEM dudes who thought thy were the smartest guys in the room voted for the guy tearing apart their world.
I mean, leopards and faces and such. But this is leopards eating his face and then him voting for the leopards eating faces party again and then…the leopards eat his face again. It’s lovely.
All that “lefty over reach” was trying to protect your ass, make life more equitable, protect evidence based methods. Fuck all the way off you insufferable scientist. YOU SOLD US OUT BECAUSE YOU WERE ANNOYED.
"the average american simply does not realize..."? still arrogant assholes. "the average american" includes the half of the country who didn't fall for the propaganda they fell for.
No sympathy, and they SHOULD be ashamed. They were capable of seeing the truth yet they refused to care. They were perfectly ok with cruelty to others, and this person is now concerned about inconveniences bestowed upon him? A 10 year isn't getting cancer treatment, and he voted for that.
They're not repentant. Blame shifting will commence in 3... 2... 1... There must be a woman on trump's staff who's responsible for this grievously unintended error. Yes, that musk be it!
Read: “Was butthurt that I had to work with POC and attempt the occasional they/them but now really concerned about the Leopard eating my face… unable to determine if the damage can be reversed.”
There have been an incredibly large number of people throughout history who have fallen on their swords for failures far less abject than this moron's. I hope he and his Trump-loving colleagues have the virtue to follow suit. They won't, of course. But it's a nice thought.
Look, STEM & education has been hit hard & the repercussions don't bear thinking about, but here is an example of the big picture problem in the US, each silo is selfishly bemoaning, even though very well forewarned, how Trumpism now adversely affects THEM alone, where's the social conscience?
"I mean, sure, we openly mocked anyone who said this would happen, did our best to convince everyone we knew that it was all nonsense. But now WE'RE facing the predictable consequences of our actions. This is bullshit!"
No sympathy! As scientists they need to do thorough homework, first look up what woke actually means, second, know that just because something may not affect you, be concerned about how actions affect others.
I hope he does what I did in my conservative days. Look at the company you're keeping and who is arguing for your beliefs, what they're doing and choose to look for something else
Even if this didn’t, there are plenty of folks at Republican town halls who do have regret and even a few news articles of some who have lost their gov’t jobs. I don’t think this is far fetched.
I get that, but I don’t believe a group of scientists were talking in that manner. I’m sure there are conservative scientists, but they don’t talk like that.
Go watch Thunderf00t's old videos on feminism (or don't, if you don't want to taste your most recent meal again).
The man's a credited geologist and sounds exactly like this moron. Ben Carson was a brain surgeon. Plenty of dumb people have letters after their name.
To Your Friend:
No overreach. Everything we warned you about has happened. In fact, he’s even worse than we could have imagined. You are reaping what you have sown .
"DEI permeating every aspect of university life" means this guy harasses younger women constantly and is mad they now feel empowered to tell him to fuck off.
“they are single handedly destroying” … nope, sorry Trump voters, nice try dodging the blame. YOU are single handedly destroying STEM and scientific research. You did this, own it!
Comments
Specifically… them.
At this point I'll never so much as consider working in a red state again.
Those are people who are used to a 14.5 minute commute, with a 3.5 minute stop at Starbucks drive-thru for a grande mochiatto, and a clock-in at 0900 on the dot.
They crave stability, normalcy and predictability above ALL ELSE.
Everything in it's place.
It's not so much, "How dare you hold me accountable for my behavior!?", but more "Constantly thinking about pronouns is too much for me to worry about."
So they voted for the convenience evil promised.
Surprise Twist: "THEY'RE NOT. AND WILL SOON FIND THIS OUT."
“Before you cast your vote for Trump, were you aware that he promised to make life more difficult for certain groups of people?”
If they were genuinely unaware, OK. But I’d be willing to bet that a large percentage knew, but thought THEY’d be safe.
This isn't an excuse, but a lot of people did a lot of lying and a lot of people believed them.
People who saw Trump for what he is are far too soft on those who claim they didn't....
who are upset only because they are at risk...
Not just those they were willing to leave behind.
Ppl are OK with shitbags if they think they can gain from it.
And believe me taxes are a huge draw, regardless of the actual arithmetic.
One for financial self interest thinking others would pay.
The other to deliberately hurt others & hold them back.
Social issues like transgender polled way down the list. They're being persecuted just for red meat.
Most decent people simply don't have it in them to challenge their neighbors. Until it's safe.
(My parents aren’t convinced.)
There is no reason here.
They saw themselves as victims before. They seen themselves as victims now. They’ve learned nothing and deserve to rot.
They were good with the promises of cruel destruction against people who were only were mild annoyances to them.
They only regret now that they too are getting cruelly destroyed.
They make excuses and will do so right up to the point that they are against the wall waiting for the bullet
You did not see the crisis actors these NAZIs sent to these schools to misrepresent the trans community .
At least they had the sweet moment from Jan 20-23rd where the libs were owned and wokeness ended, before they realized their life work was going to be flushed down the toilet.
What they probably thought was that they would get their tax break, and that that would outweigh the slim likelihood of tariffs being applied
Maybe it's because I have colleagues exactly like this--who would probably never vote for Trump but who have whinged incessantly about wokeness for the past ten years
Just say racism and transphobia.
They voted for Trump because they're racist transphobes.
0 fucking sympathy for people like that.
that’s why right-wingers adopted “DEI” as a dogwhistle in the first place: for many, “DEI” is when your boss makes you watch a video and Robin DiAngelo gives you the business.

"I thought the leopard was great until it ate my face! It was supposed to eat other people's faces!"
They're still not empathising. They still don't care.
They'll repeat these choices again, as they *wanted* others to suffer. They only hate it all now they're hurting too.
But actively voting to destroy other people's lives indescriminately right up until you happen to get caught in the crossfire just makes you a vile cunt.
So, bon appétit!
They are the victims.

Who is this guy and how can I shit in his cereal.
Yeah, they've learned nothing. They're just upset he's targeting them as well.
#HustlingBackwards
#HopeAntiWokeKeepsYouWarmAtNight
These fucking babies threw it all away because someone *annoyed* them. LIke how do you get through life that fragile.
Same thing from almost every trump regret voter.
“Hey, be kind to each other”. Omg such overreach.
It's actually real, I checked. Lmao.
I don't make the rules guys, I only tell you what I saw (and repeatedly told them "you are not dumb enough to believe this, nor a grifter to like it")
I thought I understood religious brainwashing before that, but that utterly blew my mind.
Faith is a cancer.
I mean who needs qualifications, right? Thank goodness we got rid of those ppl….
Just say you're bigoted scum, man. It's more concise and more honest.
Now, they are losing their funding.
Good FKNG luck. Don't let the door hit you in the arse.
Also, you're a scientist. You should not be using the term 'woke', you're above that. Do better.
History 101
"Oh, you know the ones"
He can take his pathetic excuses and get fucked.
Sort of like Keith Self’s shameful display…
They were fine if others suffered, but as soon as it’s personal, all of sudden there’s a shift in support.
I hope they suffer. It just sucks that their stupid decisions also means the rest of us have to as well.
*cough*
BUT…
university seminars *can* go about trying to impart social consciousness in really fucking annoying ways. that was the biggest problem in these people’s lives lmao
They are in an academic setting, so closer to the social science academic discourse than most citizens...
But ehh, you voted orange, get rekt!
Their opposition would thus be based on principles mostly.
Uncharitable reading? Racists gonna racist.
Personally I do not necessarily subscribe to the policy that to change/improve society and culture you need to get/force people to speak more inclusive and that's why "Latinx" is the right term to use...
But going full nazi? Give me a break.
"They used bad words and they left me no choice to go full nazi."
I keep repeating myself but "get rekt!"...
I get it, I've been there, but I expect more from university professors.
At worst the wokeness being referenced is talking about annoying pedants... The current crisis is *existential*
I wish these “smart” people would just be honest for once in their lives.
*the STEM dudes who thought thy were the smartest guys in the room voted for the guy tearing apart their world.
If anyone still believes that 'scientists would run the government much more rationally than politicians', show them this.
tendencies?
* No. F**k them
- every repentant MAGA
Get. Fucked. Conservatives.
Educated conservative is a fucking oxymoron.
Every single person who convinced this guy he was smart while he was growing up should be made to publicly apologize for having done that.
Guess it just goes to show you don't have to be smart or even self-aware to get into STEM any more
The man's a credited geologist and sounds exactly like this moron. Ben Carson was a brain surgeon. Plenty of dumb people have letters after their name.
No overreach. Everything we warned you about has happened. In fact, he’s even worse than we could have imagined. You are reaping what you have sown .
Like just one.
And the pronouns thing doesn’t count. That’s not extreme.
If you can’t define “woke” then you can’t define “extreme wokeness” either.
"We didn't like DEI!" Tell us you're a white boy.
