Okay, the nerdiest thing at your wedding. Go!

STORYTIME.
At our wedding, my astronomer husband and I had a planetarium show (YES NERDS WE KNOW). The MC told everyone to get drunk first. During the show my drunk aunt-in-law shouted "SHOW US URANUS" and he had a whole BIT about how Uranus got rammed by something hard and let out a lot of gas. 😂

But my sister had the molecular structure of DNA on her wedding cake icing, so I think she has the family record.
We still don't know who took the Catwoman whip home with them...
Our walkout song was Lego "everything is awesome" (I also LOVE Tegan and Sara)
And our cake topper was from Mr. And Mrs. Fox
Bride's song: The Last Goodbye
Recessional: Still Alive from Portal.
All arranged for strings.
Husband said his vows in Latin and wore a senatorial toga.
Husband is a Latinist so there were Latin/Roman touches everywhere. I can't even remeber them all at this point.
Surprised no one else mentioned meeple cake toppers! It was one of the first things we got for the wedding.
(We are both linguists. We met in Phonetics class. My husband does
@wordfamilyfriday.bsky.social)
We held it on Speak like a robot day (101010) which is also binary for 42. And we were well aware of this.
Wedding 2: Star Wars cookies and decorations
We went full Episco-nerd with incense, communion, and hymns like St Patrick's Breastplate
And I folded hundreds of purple origami lilies for the reception
- I wrote into his vows that he had to let me win Mario Kart sometimes
- my processional was “Han and the Princess” from ESB
- our recessional was the Indiana Jones theme, we hid a fedora at the front and he put it on as we were presented.
Squirrel Girl and Hellboy cake topper
Decorations made from old comics
Program designed to look like a comic book
Also we played the Ewok song by a barbershop quartet as we left.
(or possibly a plant-based alien that just looks like a female human. Not entirely sure)
Our cake was a stack of our top four books (two each) with a cake version of her cat on top.
It was... an awkward-looking cake topper. Like CakeMasters this was not.
The cake maker really did do his best, though.
My partner wore orange socks and a pair of tennis shoes about two seconds after our first dance.
And it was NYE

It took ages as I had to cut the horse noises & get the timing right
I opened in Sindarin, and the closing toast, after telling the guests there was choreography to it and they should join in if they knew it, was “Live Long and Prosper”
Most of the room managed the IDIC hand gesture, as expected
And processed out under an honour guard of lightsabers…
Table names were places in the Witcher, such as Kaer Morhen and place names were Gwent cards.
Plus they had a string duo that played music from video games, including Final Fantasy & Uncharted.
Every man was in tears.
It's the ONLY contest in my entire life where I can consistently think, "We won this."
21 years & counting.

Our best call in prep was to find people who did cool stuff and say “Here’s a basic idea, will you make something that gets you psyched up?”
I did a speedrun mashup of "The Princess Bride" and "Spaceballs."
The homewritten vows were heavy on Rush lyrics.
There was a mosh pit at the reception, and I got to be Mel Brooks in a reenactment of The Last Supper, replete with shiny service tray.

It was the extra something that warmed up the room.
Our rings were the One Ring.
Our cake topper was a brilliant wee statue of Aragorn and Arwen.
Halcyon, Midgar, Skyhold...
There were so many people who didn't get it 😂
It's a very obscure dress that she knew she wanted when she first saw it
Bookmarking this thread as someone planning a wedding right now 😅
(My first, helplessly geeky thought was “but did they get to add their DEX stats?”)
Thank you for sharing this story. :)
I feel like I did this wrong. 😂

I'm a very tall & skinny engineer, she's much shorter & curvy artist, so I 3D printed these teapots (I'm a wire-frame French Press here) for wedding cake toppers.
And I sell wax seals & signet rings, so of course we had...
Then I made groomsmen gifts - silver cufflinks with the leaf shape, but their own initials on each - because of they all said "EH", they'd just stay in a drawer forever.
Years later, one of my groomsmen got married, & told me...
He's a Marine, so of course wore his dress uniform to get married. But his Best Man was another Marine...
And yes, I can make stuff like this for your wedding - @ltbrngrdesigns.bsky.social
I tweeted about this and Bill retweeted it!
#gearqueer
The officiant's speech was just solid math puns
Lego wedding cake topper
Weighted Companion Cube groom's cake
-Got married at the Royal Society of Chemistry
-Husband secretly arranged entrance music. it included Star Wars theme
-My nails were painted w galaxy clusters & my hairpiece was all stars
-Had Lego on the dining tables instead of favours
-All flowers were in lab glassware
(We had Throne Room as our recessional)
Here's the playlist (best on random): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6cvzORRYmQTP8pmn9hcD9z?si=vaxLYYyQTNmKwUvVGPrUGg&pi=OqE1i3-ARY6nW.
(Dark chocolate cake with dreamsicle filling and honey rum fondant.)
UK on one side (where I live)
US on the other side (where he lives)
Eorzea in the middle (where we met... FFXIV for the uninitiated)
Because nothing says "nerd" like a Venn diagram.
Also, I kept my invitation and gift list in Hypercard.
Final Fantasy, Disney, and Star Wars music in ceremony.
Chocolates on cupcakes featured edible paper printed with game box art.
Jars of Legos at tables so no one got bored waiting for food at reception.
My son had a Doctor Who Lego boutonniere on our wedding day! The groomsmen had d20's and little dragon skulls on theirs.
How about our wedding cake (read the titles bottom-to-top)
So yeah, cake and the band playing Cantina Band to kick off the speeches.
...And our cake topper was a figurine of our My Little Pony ponysonas.
Table names were starships from different sci fi series.
