Lol, yes, I'd almost forgotten about those lunatics. They went on and on about it. I would just shrug. It's just semantics. I know the meanings are a bit different, if we want to get technical, but it wasn't making any difference to anything at that time.
Super delegates, electoral college, widespread voter disenfranchisement. Then there is also the fact it's a republic. Then there's the fact that voting rights are pushed back against today. Voting rights still aren't allowed to every citizen. Money increase vote share.
It’s SUPPOSED to be a democratic republic (these two things are not mutually exclusive), however it is now an oligarchy on the brink of becoming a fascist authoritarian dictatorship.
Please read about ‘Project Russia’ - it's aligned with everything we see Trump and his regime doing. It's the overall master plan.Trump is deliberately destroying the economy. He is doing this for Putin to create a new world order. It's described in 'Project Russia' https://bit.ly/4jhvi1A
Sorry, but it's not a Republic. Republics follow a constitution of some sort rather than the whims of a mad dictator / king, and the word even comes from "rule by the people" (res publica), so the US has nothing in common with republics
While the US jumped straight from being an arguably more democratic Republic than Rome to being de facto absolutely ruled by an emperor akin to Caligula. Although that is probably unfair to Caligula.
The USA is no longer a Republic, WE could NOT KEEP it! WE ARE A WHITE TRASH FASCIST REGIME! Worse than the Nazis, Saddam Hussein, ISIS, Hamas, or the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden! Hitler had way more intelligence and he was fucking suicidal!
April 5th !!The working class out number the rich !!! Stop buying from the companies that did this to us !!Strike Protest !!! Rise up ✊🏾✊🏿✊🏽✊🏼🤍💙❤️ show the world ! Booker Tyranny won’t stand!
This combines the best elements of those running it (oligarchs who are accountable to no one) with the best parts of democracy (replacing elected politicians and saying they are accountable).
It was kinda sad today that I could not tell some posts were April Fool jokes. Like Southwest Airlines was going to start charging to use the bathroom on their planes.
- operative word is oligarchic, not “republic” or “democracy” - except when referring to the presidency. Then we have a pretend democracy because votes are not equally counted. The electoral college is a BS gift from bigoted dead white land owners who that they were all that and a bag of chips
It's the definition of res publica that gets a little funky. Respublica does not actually refer to the distinction between communal self government and monarchy.

Yeah, that doesn't change the fact a republic is one of a few forms of democracy. Nor the fact that since July 4 1776, it designed to serve the olgrarichy. Which at time was the landed gents, our founding fathers, and a very few of their buddies.
How do you feel about civil rights for all people? If all are treated fairly and equally then flags aren’t needed. Until that era returns, flags send an important message.
Nah, flags are too gay for me. The gays are too gay. Their happiness makes me angry. You know what, let’s fly the nazi flag in schools. Will really teach the kids about WWII. :D
Yeah, I understand. It’s honestly quite crude humor. The whole political climate is so fucked and my response to that is bad jokes and unseemly resemblance.
Yes, but republic with constitution, which sets up a system of democracy for almost all of its adult citizens as part of its "Life, liberty & pursuit of happiness" dynamic. Abe knew this "Government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the Earth" Why don't you?
the fact that it says "ALMOST all its adult citizens" proves that it's not in fact, a democracy. democratic countries allow ALL their citizens to vote, even in prison.

It’s an Oligarchal Anocracy

while
‘republic’ is Latin for
‘ruled by the people’?
demokratia : power of the people
(though what did "demos" mean??)
still close enough I think
It's the definition of res publica that gets a little funky. Respublica does not actually refer to the distinction between communal self government and monarchy.
Today it seems to imply that government is officially layered (e.g. municipal, county, state, fed) with powers distributed among those layers.

What it wants to be becomes beside the point.
Even more, there is the nice name: Democratic People's Republic of Korea
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states
Previously I thought that a Republic was simply a kingdom with an elected head of state instead of a king.
According to Republicans, it's a democracy with a qualified franchise.
The Founding Fathers disqualified women, other races and the poor from voting. DEI, in fact.
You just need the one word.
Nazis have the nuclear codes. Someone should look into that.
Maybe stop the Nazis or something. Just... riffing.
Democracy --> Democrats
Republic --> Republicans
It's branding. Conservatives don't want to live in a "Democrat" country, they want to live in a "Republican" country.
Yes, it's that simple and dumb.
North Korea is a republic. China is a republic. The Democratic Republic of Congo is a republic
Sweden is not a republic. Australia is not a republic. Denmark is not a republic
Being a republic is no guarantee of functional democracy

Liberals don't say "oligarchic democracy". A "democracy" hasn't existed for centuries.
Liberals say "Democratic Republic" or "Modern Democracy".
When the Right says "republic", it says we may have foreign-born representatives, like Vladimir Putin. That's bad.
