Great opportunity here to make The Onion both *the* source for satirical news articles about the government and *the* source for in-depth, factual reporting on the onion market.
Canadians are avoiding as much as possible produce - including onions - from the US. They need to realize that a lot of produce from other countries is grown by and profits US companies as well.
TBF, it was named nearly 30 years before he took the helm. It was pretty established at that point, and I don't think he wanted to risk T Herman Zweibel coming back from the dead to torment him over a name change.
I'm glad someone besides myself sees the over abundance of onions as the pressing problem it truly is. This story has been suppressed for far too long.
That's more of a fall/winter dish. In the heat of summer, you want to focus on onions as a burger or hotdog topping. Fresh sliced or diced, pickled onions, caramelized jam, or maybe onion rings as a side.
Soup *is* good in the summer, but I prefer a chilled soup then like vichyssoise, borscht, or gazpacho then. Though I suppose a hot soup would be good on cold and rainy days.
Cross country differences are interesting. I've never seen a US onion, except green onions. When the boycot started, I didn't change much because most of the food in my stores was already Canadian. Biggest US products on our shelves are processed & junk foods, & end of winter veggies/fruits.
This is where the interprovincial trade deals will be handy. Ontario grows a lot of onions, and it would be better for Canadians to ship them between provinces than across an international border.
An Onion recession. Because onions make us cry and we do enough of that with the other guy. Now if only the onions could be genetically modified to help us see the funny side.
French Onion SOUP Y'ALL! Get some Better Than Bullion, slice up 6-7 onions, sautee' onions, throw into soup pot with water and bullion paste, toast up some french bread slices with melted cheese on top.
OMG! This reminded me of the best soup I’ve ever had in my life.
In 1984 I went to Yorkshire (to see Castle Howard). I stayed at the Hill Hotel & had the cream of onion soup! It was the best soup I’ve ever had in 63 years!
Unrelated -- awash in onions, but wondering why the garlic bulbs have been sparse and rancid for the past several months? Perhaps just at my local west coast stores.
Well,.... we've been doing our best. I just bought 10 pounds for this week. It has been 5 pounds a week for at least 2 years. Grilled onions on our burgers and bratwursts. French onion soup, meatloaf, tacos, lentils and onion curry. Tuna Pasta salad with chopped onions and little peas.
We should offer these to the white South Africans we just brought over -
"these poor onions are just like you -- sadly, they're unwanted and neglected, but you should be happy to be able to eat onions because times are tough in the United States."
We could totally get out of this problem if everyone in the country just made French onion soup tonight. Takes like three whole onions to make a pot of that stuff. Hopefully we have a Gruyere cheese surplus too.
That's hilarious. The mega-chain restaurant that serves Bloomin Onions is the "Outback Steakhouse" with all sorts of paraphernalia of Australia all over the place.
Spread the word. Obviously not enough people know about ONION BHAJIS.
Just Google 'Onion bhaji recipes' and find your favorite ( there are many to choose from). Let's reverse this trend.
I am begging people to try pickling onions! It is such a life changing condiment to add an acidic zip to balance umami.
I haven’t stocked up on mason jars. I would for safety if I made more than a couple weeks worth, but I’ve just been saving pickle jars and running through the dishwasher.
impossible! onions are as basic as salt & pepper. i can barely cook without them...well, obv i can cook without them, but you know what i mean. i hope.

Oh well, they got what they voted for.
I guess they’re gonna rot in the fields because they have no workers to pick them.
What a fucking disaster your president is. He’s absolutely destroying America. But you know.
The rest of the world will work around this. But you guys are stuck.
We have localized tofu businesses.
Break out the onions, boys, we’re going caramelizing!
Many are rotten inside!
Do you picture this as an onion 🌰 it looks like a horse chestnut ! This is an onion 🔪 don't cry!
I buy organic now.

May I suggest onion cigarettes?
I would probably throw that lil crock out instead of wash it. 🤪
But still…

Haven't bought one since. Bags and bags of Canadian onions for me.
Don't even apologize!

Instead of broiling the Gruyère Cheese 🧀 on top, I just threw lil chunks o cheese into the hot soup. 😛
I put fresh bread 🥖 on the side. 😆
It should read:
"Depressed? Market for onions in the U.S.!"
Nothing goes down in the shopping world today.
