Giving him a 3 year contract doesn’t benefit us at all

This is huge. If the club want to get out from under the thumb of PSR we need to hit the global market more. Expanding external revenue outside of matchday ticket and merch sales will also keep going to the games affordable for the average supporters and retain our position and the peoples club

Quick look has his max string of games being 7 PL games in a row. He was only off for 1 game for most of those breaks so seemed to be rotational

Mangala is outside of the English Football Leagues so his loan doesn’t matter. The only restrictions on loans is on domestic loans only 2 at a time and up to 4 in a season total. We can continue to use the loan market outside of England now if we’d like with no changes
comment in response to post
We also stand to have a high ROI for Dixon due to him being an academy player. Pattersons fee was a crime but seem to be offset by his wages
comment in response to post
If we’re planning to play and develop a young player especially in a system with wingbacks I’d move to Roman Dixon. Physically he looks very capable and had some pretty significant stops and balls played in the game he played showing he also has the technique
comment in response to post
Played in 46 matches and started over half of those so I’d say the sample size I there. He never really played for Rangers either and went straight into starting in the PL with little evidence to support he was ready. The eye test also proved he wasn’t
comment in response to post
I’d argue that Baines and Digne were great defenders that also were very skilled going forward. Patterson is being looked at through rose colored glasses I’m afraid. His baseline was poor from the start with his progression being nonexistent due to selection/injury
comment in response to post
I think he lends himself well to playing in a team that presses high up the pitch. His defense of spaces and pressuring players on the ball before they have time to set up and come at him is significantly better than defending a take on from a stagnant position
comment in response to post
I agree but when all out CM options are available he’s the best suited to play the position we need most at RB
comment in response to post
Patterson isn’t ready for the PL yet imo so him being left out is understandable The CM situation we can’t change until players become available and Mangala’s deal could become permanent Doucs playing still baffles me And we need to play one of either Lindstrom or Harrison atm
comment in response to post
Mykolenko is a level above Patterson and all our other options are 36+. I’d be tempted to play Dixon over Patterson even. Our RB is a for sure more pressing issue than LB. Moyes needs to get the set up and personnel right to start then we can move forward with signings
comment in response to post
I think in that case, despite having a great CB group for a 3 atb, the limited personnel for wingback means a back 4 is the most sensible way to go. Fullback remains one of the biggest needs in the squad but don’t think there’s a lot of good options out there right now
comment in response to post
Lindstrom and Dwight as wingbacks would be a waste of their abilities in the final 3rd. Also Lindstrom has never been a defensive player. Myko and Patterson would need to be the wingbacks with Young rotating in. Maybe the odd game for Harrison at LWB. Garner would also do well at RWB
comment in response to post
BVB are in for him. We don’t have much of a chance
comment in response to post
The signing didn’t makes sense when we had 3 STs on the books already
comment in response to post
Also not concerned about the numbers more of the defensive shape and Dwight’s positioning
comment in response to post
That doesn’t mean though that we need signings on the left side. We play on the back foot 80% of the time with our LM being the primary creator requiring him to get forward while also being a vital part of our defensive shape and asking him to defend as much as he has is a borderline crime
comment in response to post
That is a very good indicator of how our system as a whole doesn’t work in creating attacking opportunities and how one player playing slightly higher than the previous leaving that side more exposed. That along with poor performances lately and that left side is a disaster.
comment in response to post
Idk what constitutes a “ball recovery” but it surely isn’t just defensive actions. FBref has Myko at 3.07 tkl+int p90 while Ndaiye is at 2.92. But this isn’t the point of what I brought up earlier. The heat map comparison to look at is Dwight last season to Ndaiye this season

And this is were the people’s club devolves into my people’s club. I don’t need to look talk or sound like you to know what is happening on the grass and form sound logical arguments for or against anything happening on or off the field
comment in response to post
Nearly no other clubs have more than one striker. It not a common practice to have 2 out and out strikers yet alone 4. Chermiti only recently got injured and prior was playing with the u23s. If Broja is successful we would have proved ourselves out of the deal with not guaranteed Chelsea sell to us
comment in response to post
Myko at least has the ability. He pocketed Salah a couple derbies ago. He played the rest of that season out extremely well. Patterson hasn’t enjoyed any good form since signing and Coleman and Young should be retiring
comment in response to post
I agree he hasn’t played well lately but that doesn’t change the dire situation on the right side that we’re dealing with. Also with Ndaiye ahead of him there’s less cover on his side and with the low block we play his side is the only consistent weaker side of the pitch
comment in response to post
Don’t let that cloud the fact that we’re currently playing a retirement league at RB with no PL level or even championship level RB come June
comment in response to post
I understand Myko hasn’t been playing well but he’s also playing in a side that is forced to defend for 80% of games and with Ndaiye ahead of him he has less cover. I also understand recency bias.
comment in response to post
Nearly nothing in soccer is measured by minutes everything is measured in p90 or aka per match. I could have posted 7281/24120 but it only is it not the standard comparison it’s a bit ridiculous and cuts into the character count
comment in response to post
Broja again in isolation would be a good signing but we already paid 37.5m on STs the previous windows that we aren’t using. Why develop another clubs players when we aren’t even developing our own? Broja also isn’t on mega wages so saving on those is a moot point
comment in response to post
Beto wasn’t needed and the reason he was brought in could’ve been solve by signing a winger they also plays ST or a loan. The initial outlay argument is valid but PSR doesn’t care about that and we still need to include an equal portion of his fee each PL year not helping in the thing that matters
comment in response to post
Signing Chermiti when we’re in a relegation battle and now for 3 seasons straight as one for the future is a very high risk. Currently he’s probably worth less than what we bought him for because we haven’t secured loans and we’re in such a bad league position we can’t afford to play him.
comment in response to post
If you don’t believe that to be true that’s fine but that’s where the conversation ends and I’ll agree to disagree
comment in response to post
The point still stands. We have 4 guys capable of player RW in the team all of a relatively high quality while at RB we have a 23 year old who’s still not ready for the PL and 2 35+ year olds who’s contracts end at the season. I think everyone would prefer McNeil playing RW over the situation at RB
comment in response to post
When he was moved centrally the major change that allowed him to be more impactful is that he could stay higher up the pitch. You allow him to do that on either side out wide and he’d be exponentially better
comment in response to post
Patterson needs experience in a top league not playing for us while we fight to avoid relegation. Lindstrom played RW and RF at Frankfurt, Ndaiye could play anywhere across the front line, and McNeil’s pace isn’t the issue it’s that he’s asked to prioritize defensive positioning.
comment in response to post
25m on Beto was too much to start and there were better out there for that price. Regardless of payment structures that 25m still looks the same to PSR putting us closer to breaching the regulations again
comment in response to post
The more sensible solution was to replace Richy with a similar player that could play out wide or up top if DCL was injured and spend the rest of it on a fullback. The loan is an issue due to it taking up a league loan spot that again could’ve been used elsewhere.
comment in response to post
RB should be our highest priority with it becoming clearer that Patterson might not end up being PL quality and all our other options being 35+. We have 4 wingers in the side currently all of a moderate to good level that can all play RW. The issue is the tactics and role they’re asked to play in
comment in response to post
The identification of these players is done by our talent identification and recruitment teams not Thelwell. Choosing to spend 89.9m on 6 players who combined have played 80.9 matches is Thelwell’s decision
comment in response to post
The circumstances involving the payments doesn’t exclude him from being judged for spending 37.5m on m back up and academy strikers when we need higher quality starters nearly all over the pitch. More pressing position concerns should’ve been addressed before ST.
comment in response to post
In reality we would be paying +20m for a championship player in a position not of highest priority. We could make 2 signings for that fee with the potential to be as impactful as Philogene
comment in response to post
Just from the principal of him belonging to a PL team his value has increased despite his actual abilities not improving. Villa bought him back this summer for 15.5m and can’t see them letting him walk for less than 20m and probably more due to it being midseason
comment in response to post
… struggling to not only fight off relegation but also PSR sanctions due to over spending. Absolutely none of this is logical and is leading me to believe he needs to be replaced just as much as Dyche
comment in response to post

… wingers (one that we were looking to make permanent from the start) that he already is looking to replaced. Meanwhile we still have an abysmal fullback group that has desperately needed reinforcing since he came to the club. We missed Philogene on the first attempt and will now pay a premium …
comment in response to post
… With his time off now I think he’d be ready and with the progression from Dyche I think the transition would be very easy for him despite it being mid season.
