Considering that GOP voters voted in smaller numbers for Dems this last go round, over all, it's pretty obvious that this tactic was not only a failure in its aims, but in its outcome as well.

Republicans built a giant machine capable of getting their unified message piped onto the eyes of hundreds of millions Americans. Thats why they win, despite offering no substantive plan for governance.
To legacy media, which can independently decide whether or not broadcast it, and if so, for how long/how many news cycles, and even whether to pass it through unfiltered or with commentary/fact checking.
