Minecraft. Feeling good, let's build or decorate something! Feeling crappy, let's go kill some zombies, feeling overwhelmed, let's go dig in the mines. Yup.
For me it’s kind of two, but which two varies. Fallout4, Bannerlord, Jagged Alliance 2, Baldur’s Gate/TotSC and OOTP Baseball 2025 make up the main pool of comfort games, from which I’m mainly doing two at any given time. ADHD has its problems, but it’s not a terrible thing with computer games..
Yeah, any Assassin's Creed games, pre & after the changes to game play. Absolutely great games with added bonus to my happiness & out the way of people who aren't good for my wellbeing
I have a few but Mass Effect, Civilization and X-com games are my top comfort gaming. Also BG3 has become a great mental health relief recently. What a luxury it is not to think about the war and bleak world politics state at least for couple hours.
Yep, Morrowind (my own very heavily modded version which I've spent literally YEARS creating).
Just loading a random save and wandering around familiar locations takes me to a completely different place, both literally and metaphorically. Even without actually DOING anything as such.
It was PalWorld until I got too powerful and the game no longer saves… I only had two bosses left. Might try stardew valley if I don’t vibe with towers of Agasba.
It's Rimworld for me. That game can be so entertaining and challenging. Making sure your Colony survives while Randy tosses 23 Leather Hats your way and a group of rabid Corgies can be quite charming.
absolutely, pokemon white and legendary starfy have always been huge nostalgia comfort games for me but honestly i thjnk 98% of my mental well being relies more on having an animated show to hyperfixate on 😭
I first played it on a 386 at a friends house. Peak of technical excellence. It blew my mind and has shaped my gaming life as well as starting to build my own construction, business and 4X games in the future.
Elite Dangerous.
Fight some pirates in am over-engineered monster. Of pic a random vector and go, just to see what lies in the beyond. In the bubble bounty hunting. Or deep in the black going a random direction. No better game for my head.
That is one of the few games I've 100% in terms of achievements. Or maybe it was Brotherhood. Either way, loved those games. And it was very cool to see Florence IRL too.
Nice! And yes it was haha. I think Lego Batman was my first one on 360, out of maybe 5 total (never was a big completionist). But saw your post about the DLC and now I'm thinking, I never played the DLC for those AC games!
AC2 has 1 good and 1 mediocre dlc, brotherhood has a good dlc and I never played the dlcs for revelations or 3. Lego Batman was a classic! I'm playing through the 3rd right now with my fiancee and we're remembering why classic Lego games are awesome
Stardew Valley and the Horizon games (Zero Dawn and Forbidden West) are my comforts when I’m feeling anxious. I could spend hours playing them and I always feel better after. ☺️
Funnily it is not a "cozy" game for me .. but Civilization. There is just something very gratifying about playing an underdog country .. and betraying your neighbours and crushing them later.
Honestly Star Citizen and Dayz are that for me. Former for mining & salvage. Just listen to music and chill. Latter the camping mechanics. Build a fire to just sit and cook. All while watching snow fall. Very tranquil experiences for me. Calms me to my core.
Each run is different than the other and you have SO MANY CHARACTERS AND THE DLC EXPANDS THEM EVEN MORE like really, that's better than therapy (jk lol)
no spoilers but I made some big steps yesterday and I'm so proud of myself. it's the first time I've come this far with minor cheats (but it's just mods I have, not actively putting in any cheats or spawning any items in)
I will replay any FF from the very beginning for no particular reason. Just like leaving Coraline on repeat and quoting every line throughout the day. 😌
Steel Beasts. It’s kinda relaxing to be driving around in a tank, popping my head out the hatch, checking the map, etc. while only hearing the purr of the engine.
Then the excitement of buttoning up, swinging the turret, and making something really far away disappear.
Not a specific one, games in general are more immersive and require thought and action thus your mind can't wander to problems you have/had compared to movies or stuff.
I loved traditional adventure games a lot, scenery, music, pace.
Recents: Black Desert Online, SW Outlaws, Elden Ring, Starfield.
100%. If I'm having a day, just boot up @skyrim.bsky.social and I am good to go. The music, the atmosphere, the scenery, it all helps me put it aside. Killing stuff helps too.
I do have one, but it changes every six months or so. Currently Minecraft, was V Rising previously. The one that pops up the most though is Final Fantasy Tactics
For a lose yourself kind of chill game No Man's Sky. I have to replay Red Dead 2 at least once a year. Total chaos but somehow relaxing HD2. But, I'll always be a wow nerd.
But usually it's fallout 4, Skyrim or Sims 4 but I play on a potato and it can no longer run those three very well without being majorly frustrating. I need a new processor really badly. So we'll take what we can get
I always go back to Fight Night Champion as my pick up and play a few matches (I made political fighter the worst in the game and it’s fun to punch in face without secret service gunning me down and such..
Any and all survival sandbox games
ARK
Palworld
7 days to die
Fallout 76 (haven't played in years)
No man's sky (literally just popped in for the Normandy and fucked right back off)
Really looking forward to terminator survivors
I would say KH2. But if you can get the collection (of which there are many), try 1 and 2 (still haven't finished 3 😭). The spinoff games all have some kind of gameplay gimmick/spin, while the mainline ones are more straightforward action RPGs.
Chrono Trigger. I’ve played it over a dozen times. The music takes me back to a time when I didn’t have to worry about bills or anyone depending on me. Just me cross legged five feet from the tv tearing up over robot trauma.
Guilty gear Xrd, don't know why but just going into the lab and practicing some basic elphelt stuff on Japan is relaxing and can help me process my thoughts

The OG comfort game will always be WoW though. I played from EU release and I still dip my toes in now and then!

For some unknown reason I really dove into it in 2016, 2020, and now 2024.
One day I'll have to figure out what's significant about those years. ;)
It is a game not of an age, but for all time.
It shaped me into the gamer and developer that I am today, and a lot of my opinions stem from the sheer joy I've had with this game over the years.
I can safely say VS is saving my psyche right now. O2C dropped at just the right time.
Used to be SolForge, for similar reasons, before that got shut down.
just recently tried the half life 2 workshop and had a hell of a time

I know things have gotten bad when I dust off the Genesis to play Shadowrun.

WoW and Oblivion carried me through some rough times
FF14 and Metroid Prime.
Gimme some sand some gold and a few skeletons to smack around.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Any of the Insomniac Spider-Man games
Almost any Halo minus 5
I'm an odd witch 🔮🖤
