What's wrong with cosy, anyway? We have cosy (or cozy) mysteries, fantasy, why not sci-fi, too? Hell, Agatha Christie made BANK writing cosy mysteries. Clearly, there's an appetite for this sort of thing.
Agatha Christie was not a cosy writer. She had a twelve year old murderer. She had a guy murder his half sister because he was obsessed with her. She had a guy frame a guy with brain damage as a serial killer
I feel like this really is a good example of well executed "cozy" fiction. You're never under particular emotional duress.
If we use "slice of life story/iyashikei" as a more fine grained descriptor than "cozy" it's definitely less stressful than Mushishi, which makes the cut.
I exempt the last book, which so thoroughly wrecked the cozy vibes it made me cry for the loss of something I didn’t have the words to articulate yet, but otherwise unironically yes. For one, what’s cozier than a stable time loop?
Hello my friend, sorry for interrupting you🥺Can you put a quote on my post please don't ignore me one post from you could change my life from hell to better 😔🙏🔄ٖ
Calling The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy “cozy sci-fi” is like calling the Trojan Horse a nice piece of rustic décor. Beneath the towels and tea lies a ticking time bomb of existential dread, bureaucratic satire, and cosmic absurdity.
I kinda hold it against Douglas Adams that any time I try to write in a comedic fashion it sounds as if I’m trying to write like him … I mean, I am, but…
Kinda wish I hadn't burnt out of con planning so hard because I clearly missed the opportunity to assemble an all-star cast of genre smartasses to panel on something like military fiction (where the audience would have no chill) just to sit back any watch
So, "military fiction" seemed a little too general as a subject, so we've decided to zoom in on the fact that 'Honor Harrington' is really just 'Azumanga Daioh' with longer skirts...
Excuse me? They had posted it in the proper place and followed all the laws in their jurisdiction. It’s not their fault that earth couldn’t be bothered to do anything to save itself. 😂 It was all bureaucratic BS which is at least cosy adjacent.
Heck, I once managed to accuse Dungeon Crawler Carl of being cozy, or at least the author of thinking it was too much like that. (because despite the death world, things were pretty much on track for the happiest possible endings for all the protagonists for about a book and a half)

Unbridled violence.

Except unanticipated vogon poetry.
(it and SPACE OPERA are both cozy)
In a village.
peak cozy right there
The whole series is a metaphor for life! But tea is a constant.
I'd agree.
The book series was fun up til the end.
