They slow down a bit until Brandon Sanderson picks up the writing, stay the course, so worth it! And read ANYTHING by Brandon Sanderson when you finish!
Repeating patterns most of us do not learn from, going back thousands of years. Weβre too predictable. Instead of learning from history, it becomes exploited by the malignant.
It's a shame Florida didn't legalize marijuana cause ppl are gonna need TONS of it to get thru. I luckily got my med card yrs ago, so on the other hand let these douchebags endure what they've done sober
Lord of the Rings for fantasy, the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold for science fiction, and her Penric and Chalion series for fantasy. And everything else she wrote.
I will say the one on Netflix was JARRINGLY different than the book. For starters, half of the cast is white/American when the book takes place in China with an almost entire Chinese character set.
The show does good for the visuals described in the book but nothing for the characters.
It was a shame the characters weren't better represented for this adaptation, but it did lead me to finding the books, so now i have those to look forward to.
TV adaptations can be really good, but I think books are much better at bringing to life all the little nuances of a story.
I will say I was hooked from the first chapter. Not sure how far along in the show you got but the scene with the boat and the carbon nano-wire is something that still haunts me (in a good way) just impeccable scene building and visualization.
I dread the next 4 years, and am shocked at the people Trump is appointing to offices. They have NO Business being in those positions. They are not qualified.
I finished reading the Sword of Truth series on the night of the election and I too wished to send all my political enemies to another universe to be forced to learn from their mistakes for all eternity
Since BlueSky doesnβt seem to do link previews, Iβll save folks the click: itβs an urban fantasy novel called Applied Leverage. Itβs on Kindle Unlimited and of course there are regular Kindle and paperback versions available.
I just started βDoing Timeβ by Jodi Taylor. If you havenβt read her Chronicles of St, Maryβs, youβre in for a treat!!! Theyβre funny and thrilling and sweet. About time travel.
I probably waited too long to publish my book about a dystopian hellscape of our own making, I can never quite get the right ending. Hopeful? Bleak? Sad? Itβs never quite rightβ¦
Long walks by the beach listening to economic impact and partisan impact subject-matter Audible offerings and Podcasts is giving me hope. As the saying goesβ¦βthe more we knowβ¦β
I write short stories in fantasy/fictional settings and have been nonstop since last Tuesdayβ¦ trying to get the courage to share here but Iβm hoping to find others that do.
My husband and I are doing the following. Watch no news. Don't use social media. I am still using Blue Sky but for the most part blocking anyone that speaks of politics.
Bundles can be a fun way to explore authors or genres you wouldn't necessarily outside of recommendations - I've gotten some good ones from Story Bundle on occasion
My plan is to start a couple businesses and claim max dedications, shutdown the business and repeat. If kleptocracy is what they voted for, I'm going defund them and fund myself.
I don't know who you are, Dr. Mikalsen, but I agree, therefore I am going to shill hard for Markus Heitz' fantasy book series (Mostly The Dwarves) . Very similar to LOTR, but with higher stakes and more brutality, yet also good humor and genuine beauty.
Yeah, I already have an at least 7-year-long purchased TBR. Book buying and reading are 2 different hobbies for me. And here I am, getting more suggestions from this thread.
My main problem I have is that I have a kindle. So, I see a fantasy title on "daily deal" and then forget it exists, and there is no pile of books to remind me. I actually have no idea how.many books are sitting in the matrix waiting for me π«€
I do like Fantasy and SF. Though at the moment I'm leaning towards the hypothesis that we're living in a simulated Universe that a drunk intern is just messing with in more horrible and ridiculous was or has spilled coffee on.
I've got the complete https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malazan_Book_of_the_Fallen on my phone in Audiobook version. I was saving that series for the apocalypse. Listening runtime of 397 hours 39 minutes makes me move to shorter Stories like Andy Serkis read all of Lord of the rings.
We are all going to get alot of writing done, it is going to be interesting to see what kind of fiction comes out of this. they always say amazing art comes out of trying times.
I'm on my fourth audiobook this week, it's all I can listen to since "that" Tuesday. I'm paying too much for this book therapy but, it makes me feel better!
Funny that. I was just thinking of reading my favourite series since I'm finding it difficult to watch the news lately. The Belgariad by David Eddings is the start of a 13 book series.
