The (unloved) Brexit consensus across the Westminster parties is wobbling. Why Ed Davey's speech calling for a UK/EU customs union is a big moment.

Quite a telling indicator of what's fundamentally wrong with our media's coverage of politics, inadvertently demonstrated..
Meanwhile, if they (UK Gov.) are playing smart they can take (quiet) steps to align over the next few years.
With clear agreements and published timelines on CU or SM then businesses will bring forward UK plans and investments that will start the process of growth.
A new factory can take three years to setup. That’s a lot of investment ahead of time.
But enough certainty would no doubt arrive before conclusion.
"revivification" - what the f... does that even mean?
Because at our next Election there will be 'that' many Seats in which him continuing to spout 'We will never rejoin anything, in my lifetime' will mean every remainer in those seats now
UK joining the EU's CU would immediately give access to all this additional trade.
#RejoinEU 🇬🇧🇪🇺
Winston Churchill
"Never before in the field of British Politics, have so many, believed such Bollocks, for so long ..."
@nialloconghaile.bsky.social ?
I’ll bet Lib Dem polling changes now.
Tories only plan was to enrich themselves
Lib Dem’s only plan was to bungy jump
Reforms only plan is racist
When will someone take the only sensible route and acknowledge that we must rejoin the eu
The Libdems.
That is.
Second, the EU will offer worse terms than we were on before, which will likely be received poorly by much of the electorate, especially when amplified by daily mail & crew.
Don't get me wrong, would love it to happen
Which only seems fair.
Though the EU does need reform. Having read a few things like Yanis Varoufakis "Adults In the Room" I was shocked.
I'd happily see heavy fines and editors or directors in prison for knowingly publishing lies (old media and new alike i.e. Facebook).
Along with requirement to make it super clear that a piece is opinion not news or factual.
“possibility of a hung parliament at teh next election”
👍🏻👍🏻
A great movie shot in black and white, directed by George Clooney and starring David Strathairn
Trump won't hesitate to take advantage of the UK's isolation, use and abuse us but leave us unable to escape the US's clutches.
I fear it's too late already.
Trump is mortal.
Whilst it’s all doom & gloom while he try’s to appoint his useful idiots, they’ll all eventually fail in office.
After 6 months of nonsense expect 3 ½ years of ‘executive time’
SM and CU are needed. Being out is killing small businesses that sell in Europe to the point that some have ceased seeking outside of UK.
Would moving to the Euro be a such a bad thing, provided there are some controls to stop gouging on switch?
Rejected SM+CU
Rejected Erasmus+,
Rejected Youth Mobility.
We're on borrowed time.
If Labour produce economic growth many of labour’s political problems will diminish
That said, he does get very tetchy very quickly when questioned by journalists about it so keep up the good work.
That means neglecting other areas of government that are important to the electorate.
That isn't a reason not to do it, but it does impact when a government chooses to start it
It'll also be a very different membership to what came before, which comes with additional electoral challenges that the remain movement don't acknowledge
The next few years of America may well be the end of fascism in the West as well as the rise of violent revolution.
Interesting times indeed.
Dive into the errors of the ‘no plan’ Badenoch implied yesterday; demonstrate the negative costs of Brexit and how that could pay for a fulfilled NHS.
Failing that: act now, ‘apologise’ later.
The manifesto on which a party is elected for the current parliament does not prevent them from spelling out aspirations, ambitions or intentions for the future. If it did, there'd be no point in any party ever redrafting their previous manifesto.
Will Labour end up as the last party holding out against rejoining EU?
If he’s serious about growth a CU with the EU followed by single market membership is the only way forward now.
Seeded investment in Devolved regions = Growth ( fingers crossed )
EU regs stop said Free ports SEZs flourishing said RW Brexiteer Sunak .
So Starmer supports Brexit , otherwise his plan for growth flounders
