I mean, as a political fiscal conservative by nature, I’m presumptively against free stuff from the government. But for goodness’ sake, how could anyone possibly believe that Trump truly cares about free stuff for anyone other than himself, his family, and his rich friends? Aaarrgghh. 😳

As a human, would you not show compassion for people needing food??
Politics should not make you less humane.
If you still call yourself, you are MAGAt. You believe in the policies you just don't like Trump personally.
The Eisenhower GOP is dead!!
I can respect someone who claims to be a 'Conservative against Maga'
But, a 'Republican against Maga' is only fooling themselves. They are MAGA!!!
What, like education, healthcare, disability support ?
Any spending that helps lower income Americans (& has proven benefits to local economies) is “free stuff”.
Subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, grants to Fortune 500 companies, & bailouts to banks (which do not trickle down) - that is not “free stuff”.
Piss off George.
Do you have the answer to his lies?
I prefer more people to have health care and an education, and I agree to pay.
therefore we have what we have … would say one of the best and one of the most safest country in the world! Love Canada, lately even more!
Just suck that we have to suffer along with these intellectually lazy and morally untethered assholes.
If we can't do the right thing for the right reason, maybe we should do it from a position of self preservation.
WAPO... The article reads like a "Don't worry, people, you'll be fine under Trump. Settle down now."
No one should be fooled by WAPO's intentions here.

I once fell through the cracks and had to choose between rice & beans or toilet paper. I can tell you for a fact that when taking a shit becomes financial consideration, we don't tax enough. Full. Stop.
TBF, I chose to buy the rice & steal the TP from a restaurant.
Also, we as a society decided 85 years ago that we would cut a slice of the tax pie out for our poorest citizens to prevent starvation. It’s not free but a commitment to a humane society @gtconway.bsky.social
Anytime someone dismisses something as "free" from the govnerment, they've shown their bias and, frankly, shluld not be taken seriously.
I'm less inclined to think it will be color based, although we know they have a racist agenda. A long time ago, Shirley Sherrod gave an NAACP talk where she said she realized that rich white people took advantage of poor white farmers, just like they did the blacks.
It is obvious all he wants the power and all the cash he can send to his bank accounts.
My acquaintances who supported the President - elect all feel this won't happen to them.
I am not sure how I'm gonna respond to them when everything doesn't get better.
It'll all get blamed on the next person.
And theyll just believe what they're told by fox anyway, it doesn't matter what the facts are.
And yet the gop wants to take it and give it to billionares.
I EARNED it.
If we had universal healthcare supported by better taxation policies of corporations & the ultra-wealthy...
If we funded Social Security fully by better taxation of corps & the ultra-wealthy..
Saving our Democracy requires a national demand for Biden to #DeclassifyTrump and his Russian handler so we can make the Congress #ImpeachTrumpNow. See my pinned post and recruit help.

The problem is our tax policy, unlike in civilized countries, has moved the burden from the wealthy and corporations onto the working class and poor.
In a properly functioning society, it's all paid for.
But workers get flat taxed.
If the top 5% of earners have 88% of the wealth and pays 66% of income taxes, the system is regressive (even not counting other taxes).

People also pay SS and Medicare tax; local and state sales tax. Poor and middle class folks pay a much higher % of their income on these taxes.
Yes, the base of our tax system is meant to be progressive. The lobbyists and billionaires have put so many loopholes in place it’s not progressive in practice.
if by “overall” you mean “theoretically” that seems moot
if not, and you mean effectively, then in what sense other than nominally is it progressive?
honest question, seeking clarification not trolling btw
You're a bright guy; even you can't believe your last comment. Why do you think Leon wants $50 billion in options rather than pay?!? HINT: free money, no taxes
You have heard of the proposed "Buffett Rule" right?
Medicare and Social Security are not. Neither are loopholes, including state tax deductions.
The cost of life is regressive for the poor. When you can only afford this week's groceries, you can't stock up on sale items. Out of room for more examples.
Heck, if even Warren Buffet admits that he pays less taxes (rate) than his secretary!
So progressive that Elon Musk made $200 billion in the last month. Tax Fucking Free.
What you're talking about is how income is counted and what is counted as income ...
What's allowed in terms of where money is put and how it's taxed when it's put there...
All stuff that needs to change.
But Republicans won't
Ergo: it’s tax free.
