However, just as American sushi has become a separate cuisine to Japanese sushi, the term "Haiku" in English has become something else and seems like all the criteria have been defenestrated so... 🤣
As an aside I love when Yugoslavia is brought up. I was in elementary school when I heard about it on the news and would always draw military stick figures and tanks and helicopters about it. This was with zero context of anything happening.

Context collapse makes it hard to tell. It would be easy with tone of voice but like idk. The poem thing makes it clear you're right but I on my first 3 reads I never picked up on the initial reply being a joke (or I clearly wouldn't have put my foot in my mouth like this.

It is that our sense of humor is diverse and in the fringes, so most boringly normal people won't get it.
My personal favorite is to send serious response to a humorous reply as a straight-man comic.
