Don't believe any justifications by napo-elon.
This was by design in project 2025 to rid the govt of "left-bias" and hand over the function to private conpanies owned by their buddies. Nothing more.
They have no plan to put Humpty back together. And they don't care who hurts or dies.
I really don't think there's a master plan. It looks much more like an extreme manic episode by highly paranoid egos.
There's no logic beyond "I can't be wrong" or "it's not my fault." They would rather double-down out of existential dread, rather than listen to any sort of reason.
Yes because a lot of people need to be unemployed to curb inflation? Biden proved this wrong and so many supposed economists staking claims on outdated theories of inflation causes. Breaking the government isn’t an antidote to inflation.
There are a lot more low/negative productivity jobs in corporate management and especially private equity and the financial sector, than there are in government.
I don't know about that--Trump always was sensitive to stock price movements. Tariffs seem to be one of his weird pet obsessions, along with sharks and low-flow toilets.
He thinks any country that has a trade surplus with us is ripping us off and has to be punished.
Musk and Trump both talked before the election about imposing pain. It lead me to read up on populist governments well before we voted. I don’t know how anyone could hear it and not think it’s possible they meant it.
When you are trying to establish an authoritarian system of government based on techo-feudalism, it helps to have a large pool of people who are willing to enter into indentured servitude.
Is this the billionaire version of business hanging a sign saying “closed, no one wants to work anymore,” instead of the truth “I treat my employees like shit and pay them worse so no one wants to work for me.”
It smacks of the kind of large-scale social engineering that the GOP supposedly hates (ie, force people out of one economic sector and into another). Do we really want to repeat the Great Leap Forward?
To all you who suffer and die, all you whose lives are ruined financially and losing of loved ones, just know that Elon musk knows better. Trust the ketamine addled South African freak.
Right? I’ll never understand these Americans who look to him as some kind of benevolent smarty pants instead of the creepy plastic weirdo he is.
Since when did we Americans lose our pride and our self esteem? Some of these people want to stay as children, no responsibility for decision making.
There's a few aspects to that.
"Americans who look to him as some kind of benevolent smarty pants"
There was a long time where the entire public perception of him was positive, and it permeated pop culture. Real life tony stark and such. Granted if you looked you could know better, but...
if his bullshit was limited to stealing credit for Tesla, and some stories about his work at paypal being crap, most people wouldn't care. He sincerely could have flown with that. But he thinks he's the ubermensch and wants to shape the future in his image....
Their only goal is destroying American democracy bec a weak, sick, angry, poor America cannot stand in Russia's way. What more does anyone need to see to understand this?! The ONLY thing we don't know is the exact Kompromat Putin has on Trump and many in the MAGA-GOP. Otherwise it is all clear.
He is really quickly adding to the list of topics he shows himself to be really stupid about, huh?
Cars, rockets, software...
Then government, civil service, trade, economics, international politics, military hardware...
Even friggin VIDEO GAMES! That one should be a lay up! https://youtu.be/z1ykCc588Zw?si=a_JXTtAvsQQU0nMb
The other day, someone posted an image of a flight from Houston to LA and wondered why the route wasn’t a straight line. Skum said “It should be.” This mf who wants to run ATC in this country doesn’t understand why a jet might not fly in a straight line btw cities.
There's a few reasons for that. One being wanting to take advantage or avoid jet streams or other weather patterns.
Another being that if it was a flat projection of the globe, the great circle course would look like a curve.
Just because things are happening doesn't mean it's productive. Federal workers actually achieved positive things and provided necessary services until now.
"Irrationalism also depends on the cult of action for action’s sake. Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation." - Umberto Eco, Ur-Fascism (1995)
It’s incredibly dumb. Places like high concentrations of government workers like the Greater DC area, Maryland Virginia most large companies are dependent on government contracts. Where are all these companies that will hire federal workers come from?
They hate that raising interest rates didn’t raise unemployment so they’re firing hundreds of thousands of federal workers to accomplish that. More workers competing for fewer jobs hands that power back to the ruling class.
Also chasing & capturing brown people that work superior in many fields so the African American prison population can take the NO pay jobs being contracted out to public enterprise by for profit prison.
But if unemployment goes up *in principle* inflation comes down, so then they'd be allegedly justified in lowering rates. But... against all common sense? Yes! Any damn thing may come. I'm making no bets whatsoever on next moves or the ones after that.
You're right, who knows - unemployment numbers aren't usually the result of the largest employer in the nation dumping people though, so i'm not sure all the usual causality is in place. for that.
I can't believe we don't have decent economic (full scale, like all this) modeling yet
If this is actually US industrial policy:
1) why in hell is it announced on X?
2) who appointed Musk to this role, and with what authority?
3) why isn’t he in public explaining it?
4) if no answers to 1-3, why is anyone paying attention to it at all, much less breathlessly reporting every word?

Productivity is measured in GDP
look at a graph comparing productivity growth and wage growth they want more ?

This productivity argument is to frame it as a business decision when it is ideological.

Who the fuck does he think he is?
I love that he thinks these people are all frauds so he should fire them but then he wants to hire them himself. Because they suck.
He thinks any country that has a trade surplus with us is ripping us off and has to be punished.
Back then, it was "I'll fix it on Day One."
Nothing is magic. Everything is zero sum.
Americans were willfully stupid. They deserve all consequences for it.
So. Much. Winning.

Losing $116 billion in wealth this past month is temporarily disruptive but ultimately will be good for you.
We’ll keep up the “good for you”work.
Are we going to be making some new jobs? The ones out there for experts are already filled, and half the listings are ghost jobs

BONFIRES
Because he has absolutely no clue what important work govt workers do.
-elon musk
Poof. About 2 million people out of work as “bill coder” stops being a thing.
No one elected this guy and he’s acting like your President
First things first.
I've assumed they will as Trump will tell them to, but this is one place he doesn't have much control.
