Cigarettes and those little airplane bottles of alcohol are perfect post-apocalyptic barter items. Personally, I'm stockpiling coffee, but that's just me. Seriously though, already converted my 401k and IRA to full cash in anticipation of the market collapsing in the near future. Good times....
It does, but if you vacuum seal whole beans and store them in a cool dark place they will hold up for a fairly long time. Seriously though, if the supply chain is so damaged that coffee and chocolate are no longer an option I'll be reassessing my will to continue. Those are pretty much my only vices
I checked into that weeks ago; they've got all kinds of tricks to keep us from doing that. As much as the market has fallen already (since the DEVIL took office) it's a HUGE hit. Life is now nothing but a crap shoot. The 1% controls everything.
In 1945/46 in refugee camps in Luebeck Germany, my Dad & other entertainer inmates were asked to entertain the Allies.
They were paid in cigarettes booze & chocolate. An acrobatic dance couple, didn't smoke, filled a trunk w/ cigarettes & bought a night club in Berlin w/ that trunk.
I'm too old to go through a 3rd term, maybe not even a 2nd. So guns, ammo, grenade launchers, etc. You know, it's really not good to tick off veterans. Remember me fondly, even if don't know me.
At this point I think anyone with a 401K should think about converting it to an IRA. You will have slower growth, but at least you'll stop losing money.
Fidelity should add that as a withdrawal option. "Select divestment option: a) to money market fund, b) check mailed to you, c) as cartons of cigarettes in new 'barter size' packaging, discreetly packaged so the post apocalyptic hoards don't steal it before it gets to you.
One time before mobile phones, I was stranded downtown. One pack of Newports got me home. People underestimate the value of goods deemed harmful to society when shit hits the fan.
When Trump said he was going to put tariffs on Colombia, I purchased coffee. I have 22 lbs of whole bean. Coffee and smokes, great items to barter with👍
And what about coffee from our southern former neighbor? Oh dear!
It all seems so unnecessary…. Does anyone really understand what will be achieved other than losing more face around the world?
Trump will be coming for your guns. 400 million in private hands. “Many people are saying this is necessary for our safety. Even my MAGAs agree. Can’t have DEI types armed”.
So Heard Island and McDonald island uninhabited by people and home to penguins will pay a 10 percent Tarrif I am guessing those islands do not need to worry about it since they do not sell anything to the USA at first check today the wild birds on these frozen island do not seem bothered by tarrifs
Please share! The rich have declared class war and we must respond in kind! Our greatest power has ALWAYS been that we're the caretakers of the machines. Waste their money! One giant day of insurance claims! Please share! Make this happen!
Buying gold would’ve been a good idea before the inauguration. The problem was it was already so damn expensive. It is going up now, but not at any percentage that was as good as the Biden stock market.
🔴 TARIFFS FALLOUT: I don’t use hyperbolic language about market movements, but today’s tariffs announcement after the close of business was greeted by a substantial drop in futures. Here’s the 7:00 pm ET status.
I was gonna say, should I just take the hit and grab the bulk? I'm not actually asking strangers on the internet but it's a thought rattling around my noggin.
I bet a carton of cigarettes would have peak trade value around 3 months. Most other resources would be rare but not depleted. Most available cigarettes would already be smoked, so scarcity would be high. Bet I'd get a solid pair of boots for a half pack.
Why would people not have protected their 401k's by electing to move their balance from stocks to bonds? You make 1-2% but like me would be laughing as the market crashes?
Then when the market bottoms out move it back into stocks.
And repeat
😂 honestly, if I didn’t have to pay the taxes, I’d consider it! I’m retired, not yet taking SS- living on a shoestring & was trying to hold out to 70. In 2 mos Trump has made my frugality, scraping and planning moot. At my age, this mess is way beyond my margin for error. Sooo- I needed the laugh!
I know! Ppl who say don’t worry- it’ll turn around, are set for life or still have a good decade to save, as I had in 2008. “Not homeless” is not the bar we should set while billionaires get tax breaks. I heard about the “long day” and thought Oh hell no! If it’s 1 long day, they get paid for 1 day!
I don’t mean to downplay that. In 2008 we had Obama and a diff world. I wish I had advice other than try not to buy on credit and don’t sell when the market is down, maybe get prof advise on investing new $ differently while things are down (not cyber) but don’t sell. Luck!
Ps- I’m referring MAGA Mike’s shenanigans declaring the rest of the yr to be “just 1 long day” as a way to avoid voting on the Senate bill to curb some of these tariffs. If it’s 1 long day then get paid for 1 day- and have their benefits prorated too. Welcome to my 🇺🇸 c’mon in and sit a spell! 😁
And I’ll be “ok” you know, not homeless-but since when is that the bar for sm1 who worked nearly 50 yrs, saved, scrimped and planned. 🤬The House declared the remainder of the year “1 long day” to avoid voting to curb tariffs. How clever would they feel if their pay and benies are prorated to 1 day!
Why does he have a couple of pens shoved in his pants pocket. Also, no one with wrinkles should go by the name Kid, or dress like a piñata. Not even on holidays.
2 weeks before inauguration I sold my stocks when the market hit a new high, put it in cds at 4.5% until the impending crash… learned when bush came into office. Republicans crash the markets… bush 1 & 2, then tRump 1, now tRump 2….
They crash it on purpose so those with wealth can buy below true value and, in the end, own all. The wealth generated from the housing crash 2008 sets clear precident, the already wealthy will use an economic disaster for financial gain.

(Not true, but it's the romantic in me.)

(I'm serious. This was genuinely laugh-out-loud funny 🤣)
People don't smoke like they used to, but still love their eggs.
All the cool kids seem to be vaping now. Should I buy some of those too?
Upside, if you sell now there are fewer capital gains to pay.
I hear El Salvador prisoners have a need.
Waiting for tomorrow’s opening in US and abroad.
I grew a bunch in hardiness zone 6 outdoors.

Wait ….
No ….
That’s what’s gonna happen ….
It’s fucking tragic
HEY TURN OFF THAT CAMERA
Somehow I'm relieved to live in Europe.
I was thinking about coffee. That might be a hot commodity on the black market.
No ones gonna have any money🤷🏼♀️
(The scotch is for me)

I'm not paying taxes until we get a real president anyways!
