I don't want to duck into an ongoing fray about student loans because I'm trying to be a little less spicy but people always shoot down alarm at the state of them because "most of that is rich kids who went to ivies".
The thing about rich kids is they're not actually rich.

I have a shitton of student debt from going to a good and expensive law school. When I advocate for student loan forgiveness, I'm generally fine being excluded from it.
The overwhelming majority of student loan debt is held by poor and middle class people.

Student loan interest rates are 6.5-9% now! No smart rich person would keep debt at 9%!
Surprise, we're not unique. (Which I doubt either of us thought.)
Also maybe a coupon for a free donut maybe? Not a dealbreaker if not, but something to think of
But if we're going to be doing it in flights, I'm fine with people like me going last.
I have exactly 0 student debt.
I'm for student loan forgiveness across the board.
because my gram died and dad was the last living relative, so he inherited everything and paid off my loans and my sibling's loans.
i am so in favour of universal student debt forgiveness it's not even funny. the money was imaginary anyway, let's just imagine that it's gone.
Even when something like that ISN'T going on, financial aid takes your PARENTS' money into account...
The people who calculated student aid eligibility did not agree with that assessment
Later it came out they... weren't paying my tuition. It was a 529 a relative set up for me.
I always felt we should forgive the loans and restructure academia costs moving forward, and I had plenty of friends who didn’t come out to keep the funding they needed.
Thank you!
I am ABSOLUTELY in favor of college being free going forward and universal student loan forgiveness even if the kids of actual billionaires benefit.
I don't care if "rich" kids also get free school as long as everyone gets an education
Hey, we can get the funds back from whoever is holding the cash in higher taxes, so no big deal
Making college money contingent on parental paperwork is just a disaster
Even though they don't need the benefit, they'll be staunch and effective advocates because they didn't get rich by leaving money on the table.
Rich people in general don't just give away money, not even to family. Either you're a fully controlled scion who is favored by the person with the money or you might as well be dead.
