Oh no no no baby! You need to come to the Tesla Takedown. Snacks, kindred spirits, and AMAAAZING sign creativity. We need you! Every weekend at your nearest Tesla showroom or service center.
Throwing oneself in front of the king's horse could certainly be defined as both artful and crafty - though I wouldn't have had the courage to do it. But it got women the vote.
Honestly the suffragists put a lot of stick into visual displays that required tons of creativity! The women’s march required a ton of crafts, and then you had the silent sentinels
Never heard of the silent sentinels. But your point is well made: there are a myriad ways to resist fascism; and the more creative and more unexpected those means are, the more effective they are likely to be. And I'm brimming with ideas 😂
I did hear about the forced feeding, but never their name. Think my mum would probably have been a suffragist, had she lived in that era. She'd certainly have been a sympathiser.
Lol I got so upset about the anti LGBT+ from this administration I started crying and rage bought all the Big Twist Living in pride colorways that I could to make hats to fundraise for my local LGBT+ org 🤷🏻♀️😤🧶🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Though I find I do my best anti-doomscrolling by also putting on some sort of movie or something in the background otherwise I’m picking my phone up at the end of every row.
These are from my “De Stijl” collection. (Lol. Collection of 2) t-shirt scraps sewn together, sandwiched, and quilted. Made using my 1937 Singer Featherweight.
For all the knitters and crochet folks on the thread, know that during world war ll folks knitting in train stations used knits and purls to track munitions trains for the resistance. Knit on! (Oh, and I do digital collages with my rage, lol)
I write, that's my arts and crafts and I find it hard to concentrate. I want to avoid it all and go off to another time and place, but you can't. Just maybe it's the fact that it's a WW2 story and it's 5 years to the end of the war still. Maybe I should work on something a little more escapist.
I really need to do get back into a routine. But the gyms around here are so frustrating. What I really need is a rich friend with a garage gym they let me mooch off of😂.
Yeah, I wish more people would be protesting also. Those of us who attend protests seem to be a small percentage of people in America who are even aware of what's happening. I think the primary reason for this is how much our news media is censoring.
Of the people I've asked who don't attend, most usually tell me that they don't think protesting does any good or something along those lines. People seem to be trying their best to just tune out.
I've been going to the 50501 protests since January and it seems like they're gaining momentum. The Kentucky one has gone from around 200 people to over 500. I'm sure they'll keep growing, it's mostly just about getting the word out.
I first became immersed in knitting after 9/11, and I feel the same compulsion to work with my hands now. Protesting allows me to yell out some of my stress, and knitting everyday helps keep me calm (ish) at home.
As I said, nothing against arts and crafts- just offering other options. I saw all the great signs at the rally I went to today and told my friend how great they were and that I couldn’t draw stick figures.
Take up a protection sport, such as martial arts, or learning how to use a firearm. Maybe domestic hobbies are making your rage turn to acceptance and that is never a good thing.
We must not allow the rage to calm. Knit to ease the tension, but keep the fire of rage kindled. We the people, we the knitters, will take action to save our country.
Watching people come on here and say that, because people are crafting, they must not be taking action. And that's just not true? You are able to have outlets on top of organizing, protesting, and being a general thorn in the side of fascism.
Right! I do understand the urgency but at the same time, we all need a way to recharge, and people seem to take this as “if you are doing crafts, you’re not fighting fascism”
In fact, many of the people in the comments have come here to share how they use crafts to fuel their activism. hell, even AOC has made a point of talking about how she has started knitting to stop from unproductive doomscrolling, and she's one of the loudest voices we have right now.
I’ve been in a blocking spree 😂. If you’ve decided that something humans have ALWAYS done throughout history during times of oppression is worth your scorn, I don’t need to know you. We’ll be fine without each other for today.
I've always been left leaning and heavy into fiber arts, #art and crafts.
I also have a YouTube page that showcases doing said #crafts, from a small apartment in #Canada, using what you might have at home, with tips for alternative materials or techniques to get the same result

I'm also learning Spanish, so I can help translate/interpret, but until I get conversational ability, it's Assassin's Creed time.

I wish breaking glass with a baseball bat was a hobby.
So, real.

But I didn't re-learn knitting until after, and it was some time after that that I decided to take up Tunisian crochet. 😏

It's not too intensive, but it's probably a weekend bake.

We can use our craft talents for the resistance!
But I knit🧶 in the evenings 😉

But also…Republicans.
This seems kinda nuts and awesome haha
It's meditative; all my best thoughts happen either while I'm in the shower, or while I'm making art.

Craft on folks!
Not going to ever see a cyber truck as they don’t meet our safety rules so can not be sold here.
