CBC news is just now reporting that someone who did get the letter signed up with Transunion and learned that their identetity HAS been compromised on the dark web. Sigh.
Yea - just signed up to see what alerts I get. 44 alerts. 17 are attributed to specific web sites, the rest are aggregate dumps (likely those 17 recompiled). https://Haveibeenpwned.com shows 34 with 16/17 of the tranunion ones and another 10 that transunion doesn’t have
I got the letter today… and the free 2yr Trans Union consumer reporting thing turned out to be a fiasco for me. the online signup process failed so I had to call TU's toll free number, only to be asked even more personal questions about my life dating back over 20 years! I said fuck it, and hung up.
I would like to know whether Peter Gregg's bonus will be rescinded and if there are plans to address his continued failures e.g. Fiona, as President and CEO. Incidents of this severity are deeply concerning, and appropriate actions should be expected.
What I want to know is whether all the letters are the same or were customized for the recipient at all. Mine didn't list my SIN as potentially compromised, but I saw SINs mentioned in news coverage. My letter mentioned driver's license #, though, which I don't have. No clue what to take from that.
Maybe the TransUnion credit monitoring could tell me, if the sign-up process worked at all and I could actually get through on their helpline to fix it.
I didn't. I've been an NSP customer continuously since 1997. I do not use the MyAccount feature to pay - I pay through my bank. Most recent change was when I moved 2 years ago.

There are many problems with NSP but cybersecurity is a big one they can't ever fix
Now, will I? Excellent question!
