As a white guy who spends a lot of time around other white people, I can tell you that the only problem with the word cracker is that it gets redundant. Frankly, I miss whitey, and hope it makes a comeback, because I think that would especially piss off crackers.
that list those students got in trouble for putting together is still amazing, need more of those to catch on, I think the hard consonants in cracker are great but it does get old
Oh man I wish I'd been here for that. Nothing I love more than white people complaining about the word cracker. Whenever you hit them with the etymology of the word to show how it's different to actual slurs, they twist themselves justifying it. We truly love trying to be the victim.
This guy from my hometown named Norm. He looked like an aging Hulk Hogan back then. Silver skullet flowing down the back of his flourescent Gold's Gym singlet. Baggy workout pants that put MC Hammer to shame.
His daughter with her perpetual feathered hair and trash metal tees. Her name was Norma.
I'm sure another bsky archivist will find it faster but it was like 2 days of "lmao cracka" and then "how could this account put the n word in its handle"
Of course there's a Wikipedia article 😆 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracker_%28term%29?wprov=sfla1
Seems to have a feeling of itinerancy, esp. when used about others; if it's used on insiders, then no. It's like the word gypsy if used like, e.g., "gypsy contractor," i.e. not as an indicator of race/origin.
Hell, I’m white & I don’t even see it as a slur. It is maybe mildly derogatory, sure, but it’s not like it was ever a term used by my oppressors or anything.
It was in fact a term white people used for themselves to describe like a southern midwest farmer person and was widely used, until Malcolm X single handedly in a single radio broadcast turned it into an insult and within a few years its daily use died out and we now have the Atlanta Braves instead
Florida Crackers were a thing culturally going back to cattlemen in the Spanish colony of Florida. It had nothing to do with the Midwest. The rest was 20th century invention of "whiteness" in response to Reconstruction & the fight for civil rights. https://www.florida-backroads-travel.com/florida-cracker.html
Someone smarter than me did a thread on Twitter years ago and broke down that from his broadcast it took about 3-4 years i think before all the sports teams and brands that had used it stopped. There was a long list if i recall.
Def is. Tbh, I think getting called "cracker" may actually give us yt ppl a temp buff in privilege, kind of like targeting a fire elemental with fire based magic
I know he's been revealed to be awful now, but Louis CK's bit about cracker was great. Basically laughing at people who try to make a comparison, it's so sad and tryhard. Some cats just really want to be oppressed...
i really think there should be specialized types of cracker. plain boring white racist: saltine
prudish pretentious white racist: graham
trying to hide their racism behind politeness: ritz
i didn't realize. i was just making a joke about how they pretend their better than other crackers but they're weirdly concerned about how often you masturbate
the whole joke is that graham crackers think they're better than other crackers but they're weirdly concerned with how much you masturbate. that doesn't work with any other cracker. you can always change your name

News.
my (White) mother from north Florida would express disdain of someone (White) with the phrase “like a Georgia cracker”
it had the same tone as “white trash” being said in north Alabama
