I am taking my 18 year old, my youngest, to college tomorrow. He's going to my alma mater. I've told him where the record store, good diner & the good mexican joint are and told him not to drop acid and climb to the top of the library on his first night like I did. Just trusting him on the rest.🤞🏻

My son is 17. He and his GF are playing video games, belly laughing and listening to Elton John in the basement. Don't be afraid of them growing up. I swear he still sounds like the fat infant he was so long ago when he really laughs.

It is so cool to see them grow up and also, I definitely miss their littler selves a lot. (My 12 year olds have become the sort of thoughtful, capable people who pack their own lunches so I can get some extra sleep in between two shifts at the bar where I work.)

Everyday is a new cool adventure as they experience the world and find out cool new things in it. Yesterday the 2 year old discovered puppets, and the 5 month old learned Peekaboo.

One fun part is their personality at 5 is remarkably how they are at 25 (barring huge trauma).

I remember watching mine sleep and just taking it in thinking the exact same thing as you.

I tell Kiddo all the time that I loved her baby phase. I loved her sweet toddler and preschooler phase. I miss all those versions of her. On the other hand, THIS nearly teenager is intelligent, witty, articulate, and a joy, and being able to hang out with her at this level is a gift.
