I’ve been in a relationship with my wife for almost half my life at this point and I still see her around the house and go “wow what a gorgeous woman” and I just think that’s neat

My father loves my mother so much that he does not hesitate to wear himself down to the bone day in and day out to keep her home even though her dementia has progressed far past the point where it is reasonable to use assisted living
I hope he is able to afford some professional assistance so he can get some time to himself, which is critical. Along with friends and family to stay with her for a few hours each day. Medicaid usually or a helper tow hours each day.
I have seen cases like this where the caregiving partner works themselves into serious illness and then the person with dementia is thrown into a sudden emergency placement which wreaks havoc on their cognitive stability
My older brother within a month of my mother’s diagnosis quit his job as a social worker in Massachussets to move back to Texas and got an equivalente job in Texas (60% pay cut though) And has been living there for the past five years (but that means his own life has been on hold.)
But they are all planning to move to Minnesota because there is family there that has been insistent on wanting to help and The state of Minnesota helps with the cost of in home care
Thanks to this post, I just realized that come Friday, our engagement will mark the halfway point of my life. That makes her my better half in more ways than one.
Haven’t been together as long, but a while, still enjoy and appreciate one other. In college I would’ve never believed that, sounded too boring. Much less someone like her, considering how much she differs from other women I was with. Probably the reason they didn’t work out. Congrats!
absolutely fantastic, isn't it? you get someone who can actually, literally be your best friend forever and everyday is a joy, or at least the burden of the day is that much more bearable.

Somehow, this one does not just make me feel old like the other "as long as" posts. 😸

I hope your father will be luckier
you all sound like an awesome family and I wish you nothing but the best
dementia is so heartbreaking
…and his hair was touselled and very cute yesterday so I told him.
(But also he paints a mean table top miniature & as a proud wyf, I brag.)
Occasionally we each do the "am I objectifying you too much" dance and get immediately shut down with "inject your love of my looks into my veins."
'i'm so glad you're in my life like this!'
